ROBERT WALKER MULTIPLE
HUNTER HOYS CHAMPION. “I would
look for limb, good bone and depth firstly.
But then its got to have quality and
charisma with a rhythmical step to match”.
Large Riding Horse
RDING HORSE:
LIGHTWEIGHT HUNTER
SHOW/FORMAT
No individual show
required. The ride judge
will ride the horse for a
short while and will expect
the horse to be light in the
hand. To go forward off the
leg and be able to gallop
and come back to the riders
aids quickly. Must have
manners as you see in the
hunting field for example
standing still for opening
and shutting gates.
HEAVYWEIGHT HUNTER
Small: Exc148cm not exc 158cm
Large: exc 158cm
Riding horses are a later
invention by showing for
horses that are neither a hack
nor a hunter. Their manners
must be good but need not be
as perfect as the hack.
TYPE:
Thoroughbred type, good
quality flat bone. deeper
bodied than a hack but not as
substantial as a hunter.
MR DANIEL J PARK,
WELL KNOWN JUDGE
“A riding horse is between a
show hack and a hunter and
although should be more
‘workmanlike’ than a show
hack it should still be of
quality. It would have more
substance than a show hack
and will be more purposeful
in its way of going. A riding
horse MUST be able to
gallop.”
