This is a collaboration between the Hampton Arts Network artist, the Hampton Garden Club members and the Partridge House, an assisted living community. People’s Choice Awards will be given out for the best display and there will also be a ruffle of hand made items. THURSDAY, JUNE 15th UNLEASH YOUR VISION, GETTING PAST FEAR This dynamic workshop will examine the lead to fear and holding people back from action and hopes. Most fear but not all, is an illusion created by negative patterns. This workshop will present three powerful techniques used by many master mind trainers to help eliminate negativity. The presenter Patricia Vaillancourt of PowerSense Trainings is a twice nationally recognized trainer and the daughter of a Japanese POW and spent 20 years researching this topic including interviewing close to 50 POW survivors. Tuesday evening June 15 7pm to 9pm Unity on the River, Amesbury, MA Fee 20.00 FRIDAY, JUNE 16th UNDERCOVER WITH THE PIPING PLOVER – MANAGING A THREATENED SPECIES Friday, June 16th, 9:00 – 11:00 am - The federally – threatened Atlantic coast piping plover nests and raises its young on Plum Island’s beaches from April through August. Join a refuge ranger for a chance to glimpse this native species in its wild habitat and to hear the story of how biologists work to conserve the plover under the Endangered Species Act. As conditions permit, participants will have an opportunity to view the plovers on the beach, from a safe distance, using a refuge-provided spotting scope. Participants are encouraged to bring a pair of binoculars, a spotting scope, and/or a camera. Meet the ranger on the deck of the visitor contact station at the refuge’s Lot 1. Program is appropriate for adults and older children. Each session is limited to 10 participants. Preregistration is required. JUNE MEETING OF MSAC The North Seacoast Area affiliate of Mass Senior Action Council (MSAC) will meet once more before a Summer Break, on Friday, June 16th at 10 am, upstairs at the Newburyport Senior Center on Story Ave. MSAC is a 35 year old, Grassroots, membership led organization working to better the health and well- being for all adults statewide. You do not need be a member to attend meetings, all are welcome. WOMEN’S LECTURE LUNCHEON Ann Velenchik, Wellesley College Dean of Students and a stand-up comic, will speak at a special women’s luncheon on Friday, June 16, at Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County St., Ipswich. Her lecture, “Schooling for Girls in a Global Perspective,” will be accompanied by a pop-up exhibit of embroidered textiles crafted by women and girls in South Africa and South Asia. WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER PETER CHRISTOPH Come join us on Friday, June 16 at 6:30 with the renowned wildlife photographer Peter Christoph. The Salisbury Beach Betterment Association’s Scholarship Committee is hosting a Comedy Night fundraiser on Friday night, June 16, at the Blue Ocean Music Hall, Salisbury Beach. Doors open at 7 pm. The SBBA Scholarship Committee has awarded over 200 scholarships to children and grandchildren of its members in the past twenty-six years. We’ll meet on the refuge at Parking Lot 6. From there we’ll hike along the island, stopping at historic sites to learn how human uses changed over time and what impact they had on the natural world. This is a hike of about a mile along a dirt road, so please dress comfortably and safely for walking and for the weather. This guided 2 hour program is most appropriate for older teens and adults. Binoculars and/or a camera are recommended, but not required. Each session is limited to 12 participants, so preregistration is required. LET’S GO OUTSIDE! Saturday, June 17th, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm - Mark your calendars! This is the second year for our new, FREE and very cool event for the whole family. Spend all or part of a day outside at the refuge while trying out a whole bunch of fun, healthy activities including archery target shooting, kayaking, surf fishing, nature photography, and bird watching. There will also be a variety of nature-based crafts and activities for younger kids. While event “activity stations” will be located both at the visitor center and on the national wildlife refuge, we recommend that you begin your event experience at the visitor center. Complete all activity stations and earn a Junior Refuge Manager badge! Activity stations will run continuously throughout the day. Free shuttle buses will provide transportation to the different venues. This event will take place rain or shine. NO preregistration for this event. ART IN THE GARDEN The Art in the Garden event features West Newbury gardens, artists and musicians. The tour features 7 private beautiful and inspired gardens each with an art connection. The 90-minute walking tours, will run from North Point’s Plum Island Lighthouse to the south jetty and back, rain or shine. Parking in the Plum Island Lighthouse parking lot. Given their length and a significant amount of walking, the tours may not be appropriate for young children or people with disabilities. Tour participants will gather at the Plum Island Lighthouse Parking lot at 2 PM for the walk.
