First <strong>Islam</strong>ic Corps co Spain Under Turatf<br />

Musa bin Nusayr then ordered five hundred soldiers under Turaif to<br />

accompany Julian in his ships and land on the coast <strong>of</strong> Spain to<br />

acquire first hand knowledge about the state <strong>of</strong> affairs there. Turaif<br />

landed on the Spanish coast and returned safely after making some<br />

small-scale raids for plunder. After a short time the Caliph permitted<br />

them to invade Spain but with the utmost caution.<br />

Tariq bin Zeyad Ordered to Invade Spain<br />

Acquainted with the state <strong>of</strong> affairs in Spain Musa bin Nusayisent<br />

orders to Tariq bin Zeyad, the Governor <strong>of</strong> Tangiers to invade Spain.<br />

Tariq led a force <strong>of</strong> seven thousand in four boats. He was still on the<br />

way when he was overtaken <strong>by</strong> drowsiness and saw in dream that the<br />

Prophet (&) gave him the good news <strong>of</strong> the conquest <strong>of</strong> Spain at his<br />

hands. Shortly after this, his eyes opened and he was sure <strong>of</strong> his victory.
