When I was 22, I took our Edmonton Hispanic Mennonite

church’s youth group to Medicine Hat for a youth event.

There, during a totally un-prophetic exercise (a cheesy ‘name

the friend that makes you feel special’ type of thing!), the

leader of the Red Deer group stood and announced that

the Lord was calling me into songwriting, and that I was free

to take up my pencil and paper, and write for Him. No one

knew what to think. I was in wonder. My first song followed; a simple setting of the Lord’s Prayer in

Spanish. I continued to write.

When I wrote ‘Lead On’ in 2008, I knew something had changed. The ‘training period’ was ending. A

year later, during a sermon, I saw myself in my mind just opening my hand and releasing my music

from earthly desires, namely selfishness and fame. I produced my first album in 2015.

During a choir tour in the Philippines where my songs were featured, I connected with several

missionaries; through them, doors to the Middle East opened. Amazingly, my music is now followed

by hundreds of Muslims on Facebook. ‘Hope’s Creed,’ a newly-formed worship collective which

includes FAC’s David Klob and Jessie Moore, just released the album ‘Here I Am,’ with lyric videos

in English and Arabic. ‘Samaritan Road – I Believe,’ written for FAC, will go to radio in June. God’s

timing is marvelous – the release coincided with the beginning of Ramadan, a time of spiritual

seeking. I am excited to see what God has in store, and would appreciate your prayers!
