LOCAL STAR #SUPPORTLOCAL Discover this startup's journey German-born Astrid Ellis shifted to Dubai 13 years ago to take on a position in the Oil & Gas industry. Little did she know, her affinity for the city would grow so much that she would one day honour the stunning landscape, she now calls home, with the launch of a business. The Shower Tower, Dubai’s first ever Soapenir was created, as a result, offering travelers and residents a gorgeous aromatic keepsake of the iconic Burj Khalifa. Here she takes us through her journey: How was The Shower Tower conceptualised? The idea was to create a luxury Soapenir, paying tribute to Dubai’s most iconic structure, the Burj Khalifa. Astrid partnered with one of the oldest soap-making factories in Austria to create an allnatural and organic product made with shea butter. The memento was launched early this year, offering a shower experience that leaves your skin as smooth as velvet, with perfume oil that lingers on. Major challenges until date? In a challenging market such as here in the UAE, it can be quite hard to stay motivated all the time. Personally, I enjoy meeting and bouncing ideas off like-minded female entrepreneurs as well. It’s quite stimulating. Where do you see your brand in five years? We will have more iconic shapes and different scents. I see this brand creating wonderful soaps rebuilding famous landscapes. Additionally, we will also be creating corporate soaps that reflect the true passion and calibre of the business of our customers. It’s imperative for a startup founder to have a mentor. Do you have one? Yes! Dawn Metcalfe, Founder and Managing Director of PDSi, a company based in Dubai that helps individuals and organisations with mentoring, training and coaching. Her latest product is called ‘Hard Talk’ and she is brilliant at what she does.
