The Barbican is Europe's largest

multi-arts and conference venue

with a diverse programme of art,

music, theatre, dance, film and

creative learning events.

High up, under the glass roof of the

centre, is the Conservatory Terrace

which overlooks the tropical treetops

her working week with us…

What does your typical week involve?

Usually, I can be found taking event

and conference enquiries and meeting

potential clients plus finalising all the

details with brides and grooms for their

wedding day at Barton Grange. I work

with our Head Chef in creating bespoke

menus and also with our Reservations

Manager to ensure our corporate and

wedding guests are allocated newly

refurbished guestrooms for their

overnight stays.

What has been the highlight of your

career so far?

There are so many lovely moments to

choose from. It's such an honour when

a bride and groom entrust you with

bringing their dream wedding day to life!

However, my total career highlight was

performing in the closing ceremony

for the London 2012 Olympics as a

roller blading nun!

My early years were spent in my parents'

guest house in Blackpool and before

moving in to event organisation, I was a

professional ice skater so I have always

had a connection with the leisure industry.

a productive meeting or successful event.

What big piece of advice

would you give conference

organisers using your venue

for the first time?

There's no need to be stressed

organising your event. We can assist

with every detail, no request is too big

or too small and if we can't arrange

something in-house, we'll be able to

source it for you.

The last few years have seen a lot of

investment and refurbishment at the

hotel. Can you tell us more?

There's very little which hasn't been

refurbished. We've renovated the deluxe

bedrooms, the bathrooms in the Executive

rooms, the corridors and our front of house

lounge, reception and gardens.

Which refurbished area is your


Ooh, that's a tough one! I think the most

exciting change is our garden. An area

on the site of the previous Barton Grange

Garden Centre, next to our Walled Garden

Restaurant, has been transformed into

a lovely space for post-ceremony or

pre-dinner receptions and it's also a big

hit with our brides and grooms for

wedding photos.

What do you love to do when you're

not working?

Spending quality time with my husband,

our two children, two cats and extended

family - preferably on a sunny holiday!

Family are everything.
