FEATURED RESTAURANT
When you’re looking for
a semi-island getaway and
delicious Mediterranean
food, all in one place, look
no further than Mykonos
Blue. This new Greek
restaurant in the neighborhood features a stellar menu, welcoming atmosphere, and a
rooftop dining experience that’s to die for. We love it for casual evenings where you want
to step up from the bar scene while tasting something a little out of the box. Located just
inside the Hayden Hotel, Mykonos Blue is sure to be your new Greek go-to for dining at
any time of day.
Mykonos Blue is serving up tasty entrees from the early morning to late night, seven days a
week. Visit for breakfast and lunch between 6:30 AM and 3:45 PM. The restaurant reopens
at 4:00 PM for dinner, closing at 11:00 PM. The rooftop is open until midnight.
For breakfast at Mykonos Blue, you can take your pick of choices from the super-light
to the hold-you-till-dinner variety. The smoothie is loaded with good-for-you ingredients
almond milk, greek yogurt, blueberry and banana for when you want to keep it simple.
Oatmeal, granola and pastries are also on the menu. If you’re feeling something stronger,
opt for the steak with eggs and potatoes, or American breakfast (eggs, bacon or sausage,
potatoes, toast and hot beverage).
For lunch, try the Prix fixe menu, where you’ll receive an
appetizer and entrée for $29.99. Salads and small plates are
also available. We recommend the Brizola (16 oz. charcoalgrilled
black Angus rib eye steak, Greek-style freshly cut
fries) for dinner or the Solomos (grilled wild Scottish
salmon, leek rice pilaf) for a lighter touch. Of course, don’t
miss the opportunity to try the great house cocktails,
including the ouzo mojito. Head up to the roof after dinner
to take in the sights of the city from the stunning view -
perhaps one of the best new lookouts the Chelsea area
has to offer.
TIP TOP KIDS
by Carey Davidson,
CEO & Founder of Tournesol Wellness
Scoliosis
In last month’s column I revealed that my youngest daughter will undergo spinal
surgery this summer to correct scoliosis. If you’ve read this column in the past,
you know that I lean toward the holistic medical approach. My daughter and her
dad lean more toward the conventional, which triggered stress and frustration
for me in this very difficult situation. However, once I took a moment to breathe
and step back from the initial shock, I realized my anxiety was mostly wrapped
up in needing to be right when I really needed to focus on what my daughter
wanted. My body calmed when I centered myself with love in the compassionate
conversation about what would be best for her.
After listening to the needs of my daughter,
which were more about recovering near her
friends and with as little stress as possible
more than anything else, opening my heart
and release my need for a specific outcome
that fit into my view of what would be best
became much easier.
Since last month’s column, my daughter, her
dad and I decided to move forward with the
surgery this August and chose a wonderful surgeon at Columbia Presbyterian.
I even found out that Columbia has an Integrative Medicine Department and
offers patients Reiki and Aromatherapy to prepare for and help heal from surgery.
Of course, we will be taking advantage of both offerings!
Learning from hindsight always feels so easy. Emotions are no longer heightened
and it feels like less is at stake. Time passes and healing occurs. As I grow older
(and wiser) and experience more of life, I reflect back on all the experiences that
felt insurmountable in the moment. I’ve healed from them. I’m still standing, so
I know I can strive through tough situations now. Somehow, though, in the heat
of a difficult moment the ache still grips my heart with a tight fist. Is it possible
to apply hindsight in the moment? Or is my goal to soften the blow in these
situations and try to return to balance more quickly than the time before?
As a parent of three wonderful kids, I’ll always ache for their struggles. I guess
my role in this journey of mommyhood is to demonstrate strength, courage,
compassion, heart and emotional balance so my kids have a model for how to
parent their own kids in the future.
More tools on how to achieve that feat next month!

TIP TOP HEALTH
Getting to the Heart of It
Jenna suffers from chronic back pain, but diagnostics have shown no muscular, nor structural
cause. She, like many others I see for Vibroacoustic Sound Therapy, has tried everything to
assuage the pain to no avail. With a little more than an hour and a little gentle exploration,
we found that the root cause for Jenna’s back pain was very likely linked to emotions
associated with heartache.
I spent about an hour with Jenna, which is typical of my initial sessions. It usually takes about
that long to get to the heart and soul of a person’s aches and pains. “It hurts right over here,”
Jenna motioned around a large swath across her lower back when we began. “It gets worse
when I’m stressed.” With that we began to journey through the instances that trigger stress
for her and discovered a broader depth to Jenna’s pain.
In my sessions, after the client lists her
top-line symptoms, we discuss how long
the symptoms have been bothersome. We
then meander through life circumstances
that were taking place when the symptoms
arose. Finally, we explore the mind-body
connection, helping the client see more
clearly the emotional variables that impact
her physical pain. Jenna’s session followed
suit.
It takes time, patience and skill to help a person understand the full spectrum of physical,
emotional and spiritual variables that impact her health. After talking with me a bit and some
quiet reflection, Jenna realized that the stress that triggered her back pain was associated with
not being heard in her marriage. She had been afraid to speak up for herself for years out of
fear of losing the relationship altogether.
Over the next three months, Jenna addressed her fears, improved her relationship with her
husband and her back pain was relieved. All this time, Jenna really needed a safe space, a caring
person and someone to truly listen so that she could dive below the surface and explore the
different factors that contributed to the imbalance in her life.
Muscle tension is a common byproduct of stress. With so many muscles located in the back,
many people manifest back pain as a result of chronic stress. Taking steps to reduce stress on
a daily basis and taking good care of the health of your relationships can greatly decrease your
chances of stress related tension in the body.
