Description
Images shape everyday life in special ways. Along with speech and writing, images are assigned an everincreasing
importance as a "form of human knowledge". The graphic, or rather, iconographic can now no
longer be understood as only an artistic and aesthetic phenomenon, but also as a paradigm that forms our
culture. The enormous dynamic of visualization and its accompanying technical developments raise a multitude
of new questions surrounding the still young discipline of visual studies.
The Center for Visual Studies at Danube University Krems wants to contribute actively to this discourse.
Practical experience and interdisciplinary connections are thus understood to be important prerequisites for
successful research and teaching.
Moreover the Center runs a high end digitization Center for high quality digitization of (art) images. It is
specialized in providing consulting in the area of image/visual management and the construction and
implementation of imagebanks.
