Original Penguin

Tyson Ritter

yson Ritter of the All American Rejects is both everything you would assume him to be and

everything you wouldn’t. Encapsulating the laid-back cool and charisma of your typical rock star,

T but without any of the bad attitude or the enormous ego. With that, and of course his striking

look, it’s clear why he was chosen to front the latest campaign for the equally all-American fashion brand

‘Original Penguin’. Talking of the collaboration, he describes how he’s “Putting a face to a label he likes and

bringing a little of himself to the campaign.” It’s clear his love of the brand was instrumental in choosing to

work with Original Penguin; “It’s one of those brands that works well both for those who follow the fashion

path, and those that want to make their own.” Describing his own style, Ritter honestly admits it’s “all

about making little girls get off ! Fashion is a performance and my style is all about being a little sexual and a

little perverted.” It’s unsurprising when he cites such high glam idols of rock as Freddie Mercury and David

Bowie as his main inspirations. Summing himself up in fashion terms as “a pair of Chuck Tailor pink

sequined shoes,” Ritter personifi es the All-American classic, but with a twist, bringing in a touch of daring

and an individual magnetism. With the Original Penguin campaign set to launch this August, it’s doubtful

Tyson Ritter is likely to be a face anyone would ‘reject…’

AGAINST A BLEAK ECONOMIC BACKDROP AND DAILY DOOM-

MONGERING, LONDON’S FRESHEST FASHION DESIGNERS ARE

RESPONDING WITH UNFETTERED CREATIVITY, SPINNING GARMS TO

INSPIRE AND EXCITE US. ‘BLOW PRESENTS’ IS BLOW PR’S INITIATIVE

TO FOSTER NEW TALENT – WE’VE HAND-PICKED OUR FAVOURITES

AND THROWN SOME OTHER DESIGNERS INTO THE MIX, NAMES LIKE

GEMMA SLACK AND CHARLIE LE MINDU, WHO NOTION HAS

BEEN CHAMPIONING FOR A WHILE. HERE WE SHOWCASE THEIR LATEST

COLLECTIONS, WITH HAIR BY THE MASTERFUL MISTER LE MINDU HIMSELF,

THROWING UP SOME PRETTY FIERCE LOOKS. LET’S GET ELECTRIFIED!

ARMOUR TOP: GEMMA SLACK . ROPES: RANDOM BANGLE

“FASHION IS CONSTANTLY DISMISSED AS THE PURSUIT OF THE VAIN AND THE UNINTELLIGENT, HOWEVER, SINCE THE

BEGINNING OF TIME, HOW WE CHOSE TO DRESS DEFINED OUR IDENTITIES. WHETHER IT WAS THE ADORNMENT OF A RELIGIOUS

ROBE OR MOURNING DRESS, WHAT WE CHOSE TO WEAR OR NOT WEAR HAS ALWAYS HAD SERIOUS MEANINGS; EVEN NOW YOU

CAN BE ARRESTED FOR NOT WEARING CLOTHES. STILL, WE SHOULDN’T NEGLECT THE PLEASURE AND JOY IN ADORNMENT AND

THE USE OF FASHION AS ‘…THE INTOXICATING RELEASE FROM THE BANALITY OF THE WORLD’ (DIANA VREELAND)”

/ 28

GEMMA SLACK

“MY FAVOURITE COLOUR TO WORK WITH IS BLACK, AND MY FAVOURITE MATERIAL IS LEATHER. BOTH

HAVE A STRONG POWER AND A SPECIAL RADIANCE. I LIKE LEATHER BECAUSE IT HAS MORE PERSONALITY

THAN OTHER FABRICS; EVERY PIECE OF LEATHER IS DIFFERENT TO WORK WITH, AND HAS AN IDENTITY

AND A HISTORY. IT IS ALSO EVERLASTING, TIMELESS.”

IRIS VAN HERPEN

WINGS: LARA JENSEN . STRAPPED SINGLET: LARA JENSEN

TUNIC: LARA JENSEN

“MY FAVOURITE COLOUR AT THE MOMENT IS A DEEP TEALY TURQUOISE. I MAKE HATS, SO PLEATED

CRIN IS CURRENTLY MY FAVOURITE MATERIAL. SO LIGHT , SO STRUCTURAL, SO SCULPTURAL…”

/ 30

NERIDA FRAIMAN

“MADAME DE POMPADOUR HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FAVOURITE; SO IF I DESIGNED AN OUTFIT FOR HER, SHE’D

GET SOMETHING VOLUMINOUS, PERHAPS ON WHEELS, AND COVERED IN CUPIDS AND FLOWERS AND ORMOLU.

MARCHESA LUISA CASATI ALSO DEFIES BELIEF. SHE HAD MECHANICAL STUFFED PANTHERS IN HER HALL TO

GREET GUESTS, AND ALWAYS TRANSPORTED THE BLACK-AND-WHITE CHECK MARBLE FLOOR FROM HER SUMMER

TO HER WINTER ABODE, AND BACK AGAIN! SHE ONCE HAD A FANCY DRESS PARTY IN A COSTUME OF ELECTRIC

LIGHT BULBS THAT SHORT CIRCUITED AND NEARLY FINISHED HER OFF - IT INSPIRED MY NEON HEADDRESS THAT

WAS IN VOGUE. SHE’D GET SOMETHING COVERED IN FEATHERS, QUILLS, SEQUINS AND LACE.”

PIERS ATKINSON

FULL LOOK: KEKO HAINSWHEELER

JUMPSUIT: ANNE SOPHIE HOTOT . EARRINGS: KEKO HAINSWHEELER . JACKET: IOANNIS DIMITROUSIS

“MY FAVOURITE COLOUR TO WORK WITH IS RED, BECAUSE IT’S THE COLOUR OF BLOOD AND MADNESS.

AND EVERYONE KNOWS I’M A FREAK! THE FABRIC I ALWAYS DESIGN WITH IS OBVIOUSLY HAIR – I LOVE

HAIR! I LIKE IT IN EVERY WAY! LONG; SHORT; THICK, BUT NOT TOO FINE. HAIR IS KIND OF LIKE FUR FOR

ME, BUT IT’S EVEN MORE MAD, AS IT’S COME FROM A HUMAN! I CAN DO ANYTHING WITH IT!”

/ 32

CHARLIE LE MINDU

“WE SEE FASHION AS A FORM OF SELF-EXPRESSION, A POWERFUL MEDIA AND AN ART FORM AT THE SAME TIME.

BEING A FORM OF EXPRESSION, FASHION IS ALSO STRICTLY CONNECTED WITH POLITICS AND SOCIETY. I WOULD

SAY THAT FASHION PLACES ITSELF BETWEEN ART AND DESIGN, FILLING THE GAP BETWEEN THE DIFFERENCE OF

A PRODUCT DESIGNED FOR THE MARKET, AND A MORE INTIMATE WORK OF CREATION.”

LONG TAIL AND STILL FULL WITH NEEDLES... SHE WOULD DEFINITELY BE NAKED UNDERNEATH…”
