The construction of the new building in front
of the Principal Led Bldg. right side of the main gate
of the school started last September 2016, and would
be accomplished before the opening of classes in
June 2017 It is a 3– storey building with nine classroom
Teachers vs. Students
Mean. Strict. High-pitched voice.
These are the words, which usually linger
first in our minds when we hear the
word TEACHER. Teachers? Who are
they? What is the purpose of their existence
in our lives?
Student like me commonly think
that teachers are hindrances to enjoying
teenage life. They give loads of assignments,
projects, and recitations. In other
words, they give us burden.. They watch
every single move we make at school.
acknowledge the need to continue improving
to be able to provide quality
education to its learners. A lot of
things still to be accomplished.
It is only right to congratulate
and thank MES teaching force and non
teaching personnel and of course, the
principal, Mrs. Riza G. Andrade who
gave her full support to the school.
We hate the way they discipline us,
since they are not our parents. And
what really makes us sick is their daily
sermon towards our behavior, grades,
and blah,blah, blah.
Yes, we don’t realize that our
parents gave the responsibility to our
teachers to teach us the knowledge and
skills and values we need to learn.
Hence, they share their experiences
which lessons can help us for the rest
of our lives. They provide assistance to
our parents as we go on with our own
journey in life.
The Real Purpose of SLAC
Maria Elizabeth H. Lamamigo
It has been a routine for MES to conduct
School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) every month. For
that reason, many comments and reactions can be
heard from teachers.
To be honest, I once thought that SLAC is just
a waste of time, and is nonsense.
However, this belief has eventually changed
when I realized the real purpose of SLAC. I have
learned that SLAC is the good time to get along and
become more familiar with colleagues.
Attending SLAC is for teacher’s own good and
there’s nothing wrong with it. In the first place, a
teacher is bound Caption describing to learn picture new things as they impart
or graphic.
learnings and value of education to their students. So,
teachers have to open their eyes to improve the standards
of the academe. It will happen if they apply all
the things learn from the discussion during the SLAC
onto their classroom practices.
For me, the real purpose of SLAC, is
CHANGE. That’s the reason the principal always
gives her administrative notes/reminders and words to
from page 4...Teachers vs. Students
appreciate the sacrifices and efforts our teachers
make. We should thank them for being our second
parents in school. Problems arising between teachers
and students should not be blamed on either side. All
we have to do is to understand that all of us are not
perfect to fulfill each other’s standards, and we cannot
please everybody. Perhaps, some teachers are really
mean, but no matter how mean they are we must not
forget that they are still our teachers who deserve our
due respect.
ponder. Teachers need to realize the importance of attending
SLAC.
Teachers are bound to their position and role in
the society . They may hopefully see the value of SLAC
which is to become effective educators and contribute
positive change.
Henceforth, I would like to share to my fellow
Healthy Life is a Happy Life
Leisel J. Soon
Nutrition is like finding your true happiness.
Why? Because you want to have good nutrition to your
become successful in the future. This year’s nutrition
month theme tells us that we should give importance
on the first 1000 days of babies’ nutrition to have a
brighter and happier future ahead of them.
Nutrition is one of the most important things in
everyone’s life. By eating nutritious foods like Go,
Grow and Glow foods and drinking eight glasses of
water, you’ll be strong, healthy and happy throughout
the day.
MESians celebrated the nutrition month on July
26, 2016. Many pupils joined the celebration. They did
some research about nutrition and shared with their
class some information about eating healthy and good
sites such as facebook, twitter, and instagram
to bully other people. They
fight over social media where everyone
can see them because it’s public.
Let’s also take a look at those
people who cut down fully grown trees
just to put up malls and other recreation
places. Without trees, breathing
will be difficult because no trees will
produce oxygen. More than
that, finding foods will be difficult,
and more flash floods
will be experienced , too.
Another thing is pollution.
If the Earth is completely
polluted, it will be hotter
and will cause too many
problems on Earth.
There will be more
discoveries to come but these
are made to help our lives easier
and not to harm us. These
are invented for us not to
struggle in life, but to make it
easy. Technologies help us but
we need to use them properly .
nutrition. Some pupils participated in different contests
like Cooking Competition, Dance Exercise Competition,
and Quiz Bee.
Through these activities, they learned more
about the importance of being healthy . They became
curious about the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables.
During the celebration, pupils had fun eating
nutritious foods, and at the same time, showcased their
talents, too.
Patola, MES best Veggie
Patola has two species: Luffa aegyptiaca
(smooth or spongy) and Luffa acutangula/ Luffa
cynlindrica (ridged). Both species are planted now at
MES Gulayan sa Paaralan.
Both species are best eaten when they are bright
green, glossy firm, and small. When prepared as raw salad,
both have a mild cucumber-like flavor. The ridged
patola, however, is tastier than the spongy variety.
Both species are also great for stir fry dishes,
soups, and sauces like curry because they have the capacity
to absorb the flavor of the dish. Patola may be
prepared with either crushed dried peanuts or with
beans, grated into omelette, flittered, or steamed. If
prepared patola is not going to be cooked right away,
add a little lemon juice to preserve it.
Patola is a good source of insoluble fiber which
absorbs large amounts of water. As a natural laxative, it
helps prevent constipation by increasing stool bulk. This
allows the stool to pass more readily through the colon;
even when problems in the colon are present like irritable
bowel syndrome. Fiber rich diet also helps to lower
blood pressure.
If you want to maintain a healthy weight, make
patola a part of your diet..
According to research experimental studies,
ridged patola has:

Antidiabetic potential and antihyperlipidemic activity
Antiulcer activity. It proves to be a better alternative
for treatoign gastric ulcers co-occurring with
diabetes.
Antioxidant activity/ free radical scavenger activity.
It provides a potential antioxidant agent because of
the presence of higher amounts of phenolics and
flavonoids.
Hepatoprotective activity.It shows increased total
protein levels including the improvement in histoarchitecture
of liver cells.
Antimicrobial activity. It possesses significant antibacterial
and antifungal properties.
Aside from different health benefits that patola
can give you, this veggie gives you patola sponge.
Patola sponge is effective in removing dead
skin, leaving your complexion radiant. It can be used as
scrub for dishes, tires, or windows as well as water filters,
insulation , and packing materials because of its
semi-coarse texture and good durability.
YES or NO to AGEs in your Food
Do you have a healthy eating habit? Do you eat
safe foods?
Research shows that chemicals called AGEs
(Advanced Glycation End products) promote chronic,
low-grade inflammation in your body and can lead to a
variety of premature diseases.
The adverse effects of AGEs suggested so far
include the stiffening of blood vessels, a dysfunctional
heart, kidney disease, accelerated ageing, and earlier diabetic
complications affecting the eyes, nerves and kidneys.
In general, foods that contain the highest levels
of AGEs are animal products such as meat, chicken, fish
and cheese. High –fat spreads include butter, margarine,
cream cheese and mayonnaise. Milk and plant foods
such as legumes, whole grains, fruits and vegetables contain
the lowest amounts.
How you cook food is important. High heat and
dry cooking methods like grilling, frying, roasting, toasting,
and barbecuing all accelerate the formation of AG-
Es.
You can significantly reduce the amount of AG-
Es by the way you choose to cook your food or have it
prepared for you.

Review your notes. This will help you recall your lessons.
Do not procrastinate. Do assignments that need to be
even if the deadline is still a long way.
Relax your mind before studying. Ignore other things
that are bothering you when you study.
Study the easier topics first and the difficult subjects
last. Studying the easier subjects first prevents
your brain from getting tired.
Find time to relax. After studying one subject, take
time to relax. Listen to music, talk to a friend, etc.
Study ahead of time. Take time to read and study the
next lesson ahead of time. In this way, you can confidently
participate in your class discussion.
Pray before and after studying. Prayer is power. Ask
God to give you wisdom and understanding as you
You may find these techniques difficult to follow
guidance to help you change your study habit. Pray about it
and “trust in the Lord with all your heart”.
