YES or NO to AGEs in your Food
Do you have a healthy eating habit? Do you eat
safe foods?
Research shows that chemicals called AGEs
(Advanced Glycation End products) promote chronic,
low-grade inflammation in your body and can lead to a
variety of premature diseases.
The adverse effects of AGEs suggested so far
include the stiffening of blood vessels, a dysfunctional
heart, kidney disease, accelerated ageing, and earlier diabetic
complications affecting the eyes, nerves and kidneys.
In general, foods that contain the highest levels
of AGEs are animal products such as meat, chicken, fish
and cheese. High –fat spreads include butter, margarine,
cream cheese and mayonnaise. Milk and plant foods
such as legumes, whole grains, fruits and vegetables contain
the lowest amounts.
How you cook food is important. High heat and
dry cooking methods like grilling, frying, roasting, toasting,
and barbecuing all accelerate the formation of AG-
Es.
You can significantly reduce the amount of AG-
Es by the way you choose to cook your food or have it
prepared for you.

Take note of homeworks and projects. Record deadlines
and follow up instructions correctly.
AFTER CLASS

Review your notes. This will help you recall your lessons.
Do not procrastinate. Do assignments that need to be
passed the following day and start working on projects
even if the deadline is still a long way.
Relax your mind before studying. Ignore other things
that are bothering you when you study.
Study the easier topics first and the difficult subjects
last. Studying the easier subjects first prevents
your brain from getting tired.
Find time to relax. After studying one subject, take
time to relax. Listen to music, talk to a friend, etc.
Study ahead of time. Take time to read and study the
next lesson ahead of time. In this way, you can confidently
participate in your class discussion.
Pray before and after studying. Prayer is power. Ask
God to give you wisdom and understanding as you
study.
You may find these techniques difficult to follow
because they require strict discipline and change in your
study habit. But they are worth a try. Ask the LORD for
guidance to help you change your study habit. Pray about it
and “trust in the Lord with all your heart”.
