GREEN GOOD DESIGN
AWARD
Driving the most fuel ecient vehicle in America doesn’t mean you have
to compromise on its appearance as the 2017 Hyundai IONIQ received the
2017 Green Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum
of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art
Design and Urban Studies. The Green Good Design Awards celebrate
important examples of sustainable designs and provide awareness on what
companies are designing and producing to make the most positive impact
on the environment.
IONIQ is the rst eco vehicle in the world to oer three distinct electried
powertrains on a single, dedicated vehicle platform – the IONIQ Hybrid,
Plug-in Hybrid and Electric models. Hyundai Motor’s IONIQ line-up calls
upon two key factors, eciency and technology, in its design, which
combine to create both a unique and forward-looking appearance. IONIQ
Hybrid is the most fuel-ecient vehicle and the IONIQ Electric is the
most ecient electric vehicle in the U.S. market.
3 BRAND NEW MODENAS
LAUNCHED SIMULTANEOUSLY
MOTOSIKAL Dan Enjin Nasional (Modenas) has simultaneously launched three new motorcycles – the
naked street bike “Pulsar NS200”, sportsbike “Pulsar RS200” and the cruiser “V15”; the impressive
collaboration with Bajaj Auto Ltd India’s largest motorcycle maker, the world’s third largest
motorcycle manufacturer and the largest three-wheeler manufacturer.
The Pulsar NS200 and RS200 are powered by a single cam 4 valve 199cc, liquid-cooled, singlecylinder,
fuel-injected, digital triple spark ignition-powered engine, both running on 6 speed
gearbox . Peak powers for the NS and RS 200s are: 23.2hp and 24.2hp @ 9,500rpm and torque gures
of 18.6Nm and 18.3Nm @ 8,000rpm, respectively. The V15, meanwhile, is a 150cc digital twin sparkpowered
neo-classical styled motorcycle oering comfort with peak power of 12hp @ 7,500rpm and
maximum torque of 13Nm @ 5,500rpm.
The sales prices (excluding GST) for the three motorcycles are: Pulsar NS200: RM8,700, Pulsar
RS200: RM10,700 and V15: RM5,650. Each model comes with a two-year and 20,000km warranty
(whichever comes rst). Bike fans can get a feel for these bikes at the DRB-Hicom Autofest 2017
which are currently held at the EON Complex in Glenmarie Shah Alam.
DRB-HICOM & ZGH INKS HISTORIC AGREEMENT WITH ZHEJIANG
GEELY HOLDING TAKING 49.9% EQUITY IN PROTON
The historic signing of agreement between DRB-HICOM &
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, after which ZGH have acquired
49.9% equity in Proton, with Proton’s entire stake in Lotus also
being sold to ZGH and Etika Automotive S/B, was also presided
over by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul
Razak, along with DRB-HICOM Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji
Mohd Khamil Jamil and ZGH Chairman, Li Shufu. Also present
was Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Huang Huikang.
Signing on behalf of the Malaysian and Chinese ends were DRB-
HICOM Group Managing Director, Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar,
and An Conghui, President and CEO of Geely Auto Group for
ZGH respectively.
ZGH rst garnered attention in the global automotive industry
in 2010, when it boldly acquired Sweden’s Volvo Cars. The
deal raised many eyebrows especially in Europe, but after
heavy investments into the carmaker, in 2016 it recorded
an operating prot of US$1.25b, the highest ever since its
formation in 1927. In its home country, the Geely marque
sold some 760,000 cars in 2016, doubling the gures from the
year before. The growth rides on the popularity of the SUV
segment, with Geely’s Boyue SUV proving to be very popular
in China. Geely sold 109,000 units of Boyue in 2016, and until
May this year, 103,000 units have already been sold.
