RUST magazine: Rust#17
Yep, Team USA won, but RUST digs deeper into the real stories that made ISDE 2016…
Instant salvation? Can Rick Kemp atone for a lifetime of misdemeanours by trail riding the Pilgrims’ Way in just one day?
Is the true adventure bike a single-cylinder lightweight super-enduro? CCM think so, but can the GP450 really cut the mustard? From France to Chile, we travel the globe to find out!
Write less, said the editor (me!). That’s really not happening; at 128 pages our latest issue tops our last again. It’s all for your benefit though, and besides, look where dumbing-down gets us – Brexit and Clinton-Trump! Let’s engage our brains, our imagination – and our inspiration for that matter. This issue we’re even embracing medieval history, you don’t get that in many moto-publications.
Anyway, this is also our first birthday – one year, 24 issues. It’s quite a pace, we’re not exactly flat out, or WFO as you might say, but pushing-on certainly. And with each issue our audience is expanding (read the editorial for more on that) so if you’re a new subscriber, welcome!
Anyway, gotta run, there’s a plane to catch and a big adventure ride waiting. Should be epic…
Enjoy your riding, too – and reading!
The world we live in today is wrought with controversy and drastic changes due to our ever-evolving lifestyle. The Internet and social media have had a revolutionary impact on the way we interact, socialize, and even think about the world around us. Even though this technologically induced society we live in is thriving with a plethora of knowledge, society has become even more self-centered. The Speak Up Issue of i-D strives to bring awareness to social, ethical, political, and caring causes. This publication was created as a project for a Current Trends and Forecasting class at the Savannah College of Art and Design. This is a recreation of a i-D magazine and is not an official i-D publication.
RUST magazine: Rust#22 We give Sherco's world championship winning 2017 300 SEF-R a thorough two-day test. Is it a winner for us, too?
We ride Royal Enfield's Himalayan in probably the first western test of the bike – only we tested it India!
RUST RTW adventurer (to be) Andy Dukes gets much needed practical training as the countdown to his setting off gets close to single digits
Yep, we have a great mix of enduro and adventure in our latest issue. And there's more besides, as we discuss layering your riding gear to deal with the colder months, Chris Evans reflects on Dakar 2017 from his position in one of the top teams and, well, much much more!
And while you read we'll be riding, as once again RUST is on the rally raid warpath! More of that in RUST 23...
All the best
As 3D printers become faster, easier to use, handle multiple materials, and print active components or systems, they are finding usage beyond rapid prototyping.Several technology trends are feeding these expectancies. An evolving class of mid-level 3-D printers is starting to offer many high-end system features in a desktop form factor at lower price points. What’s more; Printer speeds are increasing across the product spectrum; at least one high-end system under development could print up to 500 times faster than today’s top machines. And essential patents are about to expire, an event likely to hasten the pace of innovation. The 3D printing solution providers are amidst of the sea of opportunities, and from here, it will only increase further.
RUST goes heritage with a spin on the BMW R nineT and goes big with a ride in the beautiful outback of Portugal
RUST investigates BMW’s R nineT and finds that these new heritage roadsters are too much fun to be left to the hipsters. In fact they could set a new trend in adventure biking. And with the autumn trail riding season looming it’s time to be booking your end of year trail and adventure rides. RUST has found a great operator who is opening up the lesser-known trails of Central Portugal – well worth a look. As well, a reader asks are the manufacturers over-delivering, is less more?
Anyway, it’s summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, we hope you are enjoying the peak riding season. RUST is at the Welsh Two Day Enduro this year giving the long-term test bikes – and bodies – a thorough workout. You can read about how we got on and all about the event in our next issue.
Enjoy your riding – and reading!
One of the best parts about a budding industry like the marijuana industry is the personalities that emerge. In this issue, we’re focusing a little more on people, including Jim McAlpine, founder of the 420 Games and Power Plant Fitness. The best part of any industry is the people. The products, innovation, and successes are byproducts of passion, foresight, and dedication. The indoor growing industry is no different. Time and time again, we come across people absolutely dedicated to their hydro shop or line of products, moving forward with enthusiasm and a no-quit attitude. This approach is captured perfectly this month in our Q&A with Dr. Earth’s Milo Shammas. In business for 26 years, Dr. Earth now distributes in every US state and employs 122 people. Of course, Shammas didn’t start out that way. He started the business alone with nothing more than a vision and a goal to make plants grow better. In his words, “I was terrified and had to beg, borrow, and work with what I had. I never expected anything and everything was difficult because it was new and I had no one to help me.” It paid off, and Shammas’s story can serve as an inspiration to anybody in any industry. It was certainly a privilege to connect with him, along with the people at Green Planet, Sundrop Farms, Stretch Tie, and Boveda. They all have inspiring and success stories to share, which we feature in this issue of Industry News.
It is these same people that we are always excited to cross paths with at our newly branded GrowX expos. The team here at Maximum Yield is excited to announce the launch of GrowX, set to get underway in 2017. Along with having a cannabis component, GrowX will feature education, business, and networking components developed to bring the industry together. GrowX will make its debut June 3-4, 2017, at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center. A second show is scheduled to take place at Detroit’s Cobo Center from Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2017. We hope to see you there.
