Partnerships between

Partnerships between fire departments and the MDA are nothing new, and South Adams fire has certainly been no exception. This year, with the start of our union, we are exited about building an even stronger relationship between MDA and Local 5124. We started off this year by selecting a committee and attending the MDA boot camp in Blackhawk, CO. The boot camp was a good way to get to know who we are working with at MDA and get to know some of our neighbors that are participating. The camp is held once a year at a wheelchair accessible camp. It is a great time for the kids to do things they wouldn't get a chance to otherwise; and gives their parents a little time to themselves as well. Of course the best part of the whole week is firefighter day - the activities begin with the kids and firefighters making pizza provided by Papa John’s Pizza, then it's outside to a row of fire trucks. This year we were able to send a crew to the camp with an apparatus. The kids were able to see all the tools, tour the inside and play with some hose. Everyone (us included) ended up very wet and grinning ear to ear. The camp is certainly a tradition that will be continued for years to come. 2017 $15,000 13

Fill The Boot 2017 We are now looking forward to the Fill the Boot campaign and the chili cook off. Fill the Boot will be September 1, 2, 3 and 4. Although these days land on B and C shift, we will have A shifters working behind the scenes the whole weekend. We have set a goal to raise $15,000. I have no doubt, that with the amazing and d e d i c a t e d personnel, we will exceed our goal. Chili Cook-Off The chili cook off will be September 29 at th Larimar Square. This will be our first year representing Local 5124, I hope we'll have as good a turn out as we've had the last two years. Keep an eye out for an email if you have a killer chili recipe you'd like to enter into the competition. We will be doing our own mini blind competition to decide which chili to enter. There are categories for the best red chili, green chili, the hottest chili and exotic chili. Money raised goes to help pay for wheel chairs, medications, treatments and care takers that many families wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. And best of all it pays for summer camp. The cost to send one camper to camp is about $1,000. Our fundraising makes it possible for 90 campers to attend each year at no cost to them or their families. 14
