SWIMMING NUDE IN ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY and a
summer phenomenon in gay Palm Springs
Thomas Eakins is one of the first artists to
encourage the use of nude models in life
drawing. As early as 1886 as an instructor
at the Pennsylvania Academy of art, he was
dismissed from his position because he
removed the loin cloth from a male model
with female students in the class.
reason to study nude models to create the
art. Much of his subject content revolved
around nude swimmers which was a way to
depict the nude without excessive criticism.
Nude swimming was accepted among
males during this time.
He was married, however spent most of
his time with Samual Murray, who was
a student and then companion of Eakins
although he was 15 years younger. Of
course being gay was not recognized as a
legitimate sexual preference at that point
Eakins was known to be not necessarily a
nice guy. He showed bad manners in being
rude and sometimes sloppy and slobbery
as mentioned by his biographer Lloyd
Goodrich. He was reported to have been
bipolar and was being treated with medicinal
opiates which may have contributed
to his behavior. He was also reported to
be an exhibitionist and a voyeur. Which
may have been a misinterpretation of his
behavior as he created art and photography
using the male nude which of course is a
of American history, however, Eakins most
certainly was.
His work in painting and photography will
stand a model for representing and advocating
for the nude as a legitimate model
for photography and visual art.
JERSEY’S JOURNAL by jersey Shore
I usually post about my mental
health on Facebook, and bitch about
scumbag people here in Jersey’s
Journal. Today I’m going to switch it
around.
I am diagnosed with depression and
anxiety. It’s a battle as an entertainer,
especially. It’s actually very common
among entertainers. The irony of it
all.
Let’s give you a disease that draws
you in when your job is to be out
and proud.
When you have no desire for life,
boy is it tough. I’ve done it many,
many, many times! It’s part of the
job. I’m here to entertain you!!!
But, like most things in life it isn’t
easy. I’m so lucky for my wonderful
friends. I am very blessed in that
capacity.
I have a solid base of people supporting
me. I am very lucky in that
aspect. So I guess I should say Thank
you to all of my support system.
Thank you!
my article. Now just seems like the
best place to stop!
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
OMG, where to begin.
The Republicans, AFTER & YEARS, have no plan
to repeal, replace or even repair Obamacare. Three
courageous Senators stood and said NO to removing
31 million people from access to healthcare.
Trump blasts the entire Senate as incompetent
while his administration loses not just a Press Secretary
but a Chief of Staff – all within 6 months of
inauguration.
The new Communications Director is nicknamed
“the Mooch” but it looks like the new name is “Potty-mouth”.
I know my mother would have washed
my mouth out with soap if I even used one of those
words.
The First son-in-law testified before the Senate
committee investigating Russia involvement with
the election and he through First Son – Donnie
Jr under the bus. Former campaign chairman
Manafort is up next. He has been subpoenaed.
Trump tells Independent Counsel to stay out of
his finances – methinks Mueller may already have
the tax returns.
Senator Graham of the Carolinas tells the press
that there will be “holy hell” to pay if Trump
tries to fire the Attorney General or Independent
Counsel. Even Richard Nixon got to year 6 of his
Presidency………..
bill that came from the Senate had NO WAY TO
FINANCE IT ATTACHED. So, the conservatives
want to cut off their noses to spite their face and
the liberals say damn the cost we want what we
want.
Locally, Cathedral City continues to move toward
being the most progressive city in the valley. The
Council passed a resolution 4-1 supporting and
committing to the Paris Climate agreement. In
September, they will be looking at requiring fast
food restaurants that serve kids meals to offer milk
or water as the default drink, still allowing the
parent or child to order a soft drink, but milk as
default if no choice is made.
Districts are moving forward in Indio and Cathedral
City in anticipation of the 2018 election.
Indio has narrowed down to 3 choices and Cathedral
City to 7. CC will cut those to 3 at the next
council meeting. I believe both cities are planning
on a final decision in September.
Labor Day there will be a Resistance Rally at the
Cathedral City Town Square Park by the Civic
Center. It will be from 5:30pm – 7:00pm and feature
speakers from local and county government,
education, healthcare, environment and more.
There will even be kid’s activities so folks can bring
the family. Come join us as the valley says NO to
Donald Trump and his regressive policies!
Here in California, crazies from both sides of the
the right wingers are trying to recall a member of
the Legislature for voting in favor of the new gas
tax to help fix our roads. Cathedral City alone will Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman in
lefties are trying to recall Assembly Speaker Rendon
because he slowed down a bill calling for sin-
