REMINDER FROM THE SHEFFIELD BOARD
PLEASE NOTE: An ACC application must be submitted and approved
prior to you adding shrubs or fencing in the front of your property.
Please see the HOA guidelines regarding fencing requirements to ensure
that fencing additions meet guidelines and that you submit your plans
and application for approval PRIOR to doing any modifications. The
ACC application form can be downloaded from the Crest Management
website at www.crest-management.com, please select Communities at
the top of the page and then select Sheffield. The ACC application will be
located at the bottom of the page. The applications should be submitted
to Crest Management as indicated on the form.
Please, remember Sheffield HOA does not manage your trash service.
This service is through Langham Creek MUD (water bill) 281-579-4500. If
you have any questions regarding the new service, please refer back to
the insert that was included in your water bill or contact WCA at 281-368-
8397 or the MUD.
We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Your Sheffield Board
DEED RESTRICTION VIOLATIONS
Do you know what the top three reasons management companies send
out deed restriction letters? The first is not keeping your yard mowed and
weeded. Mow your yard on a regular basis, keeping it a little higher in
the summer months, which helps in water retention and crowding out
weeds. The second is leaving your trashcans out in front of the house or
garage. Trashcans should be kept out of sight (in the garage, behind the
privacy fence or behind shrubs or a purpose built enclosure. Contact Crest
Management if you wish to build a trashcan enclosure for Architectural
Control forms. The third reason is mildew on the house siding. This often
happens on shady areas of the house. Power washing or spraying with a
cleaning solution for mildew often takes care of the problem.
GARAGE SALE SIGNS
Placing garage sale signs in the flower and shrub beds within the
neighborhood is not permitted. Such signs found in the flower and shrub
beds will be removed immediately and placed in the trash.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION
AND MEETING NOTICES
If you are interested in receiving Board meeting email notifications,
please go to the Crest website at www.crest-management.com and go
to communities, then scroll down to Sheffield and there you will find a
place to sign up with your email address and if you scroll to the bottom,
you can obtain community information, legal documents or applications
as well.
LITTER PICKUP
Just a reminder, if you see trash in the neighborhood, please be a good
neighbor and pick it up and dispose of it properly. Otherwise, then trash
will either end up in someone’s shrubbery or trees or else get washed
down the storm sewers, contributing to mosquito breeding and backing
up of the storm drains in times of heavy rains. Thanks to those of you who
regularly pick up other people’s litter.
PETS
Please remember that you are not allowed by law to let your dogs and cats
run loose in the neighborhood. If caught, you may receive a ticket in the
amount of up to $500 for such a violation (we have had residents receive such
a ticket). If you see loose pets you can contact Harris County Animal Control.
A number of Sheffield residents either walk their dogs or let their cats run
loose. It is a violation of deed restrictions to let your pet leave their poop
on another resident’s lawn or the common grounds (they belong to all of
Sheffield’s residents). If your pet does have to go to the bathroom, please
be courteous and carry a plastic bag (store bags or the newspaper delivery
bag are great for this), pick up the pile by placing your hand inside the bag,
grab the pile through the bag, tie the bag up and throw it in the garbage.
Leaving your pet waste around encourages the possible spread of pet
disease, such as Parvo, which can be life threatening, or parasites.
A number of complaints have been made about stray cats roaming the
neighborhood. To report stray or unconfined animals call 281-999-3191,
Monday thru Friday during the hours of 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
ACC APPLICATION
Please request the ACC application for your home improvement or
modification. Please include all the necessary forms, photo, paint
samples, solar screen samples, drawings, brochure, lot survey and your
signature for us to complete your request in a timely manner. If these
items are not submitted with your application, your request is denied.
A LOT SURVEY IS AN ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING OF YOUR PROPERTY
SHOWING YOUR HOME, EASEMENTS AND BUILDING LINES. A COPY
CAME WITH YOUR CLOSING PAPERS. You will be notified by letter after
the committee has made a decision. They have 30 days to review and
respond to your application. If you have any questions regarding your
forms, please contact Crest Management.
IMPORTANT: REMEMBER, WITHOUT PROVIDING EVERYTHING WE NEED-
YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE DENIED
VANDALISM
Remember, if you see suspicious activity in or around Sheffield, please
immediately call the Harris County Sheriff’s Department at 713-221-6000.
Also, let Shannon at Crest Management know at 281-579-0761.
CONTACTING CREST
MANAGEMENT & THE BOARD
If you have a matter you would like to discuss with Crest, Shannon
Nogradi is our representative and can be reached at 281-579-0761 or by
DEED RESTRICTION -
TRAILERS, RV’S AND BOATS
It is a violation of our deed restrictions to park a trailer, mobile home,
RV, boat, 18-wheeler tractor/trailer or camper in your driveway. You
can park these on your property only if they are completely out of sight
(in the garage, in the back yard behind the house). If you cannot meet
these rules, it must be stored offsite (out of the neighborhood). If you
have questions on this, please call the Assistant Community Property
Manager, Shannon Nogradi, at 281-579-0761 or via email at shannon.
nogradi@crest-management.com. Thank you for your cooperation.
TEXAS SALES TAX HOLIDAY: AUGUST 11-13, 2017
This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Aug. 11th-13th. As in previous years, the
law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks
priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save
shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Be wise! Here are some
tips on maximizing this savings event:
• Compare prices at different stores, which you can do online
• Use coupons - in addition to the tax-free savings - whenever possible
• If you’re using a business account to purchase your tax-free items,
have an exemption certificate to prove you’re shopping for a student
• Shop for more than just back-to-school items, like office supplies and
work clothes or work uniforms
CFISD MENTOR
The CFISD Mentor Program is a cooperative effort of volunteers from
businesses, faith-based and/or non-profit organizations, the community
and the school district designed to encourage students (elementary
through high school) to finish school and focus on future education and
career goals. A mentor is a suitable role model committed to helping a
student with his/her academic and social development. Mentors meet
with students one-on-one for approximately 30 minutes each week.
Currently, over 700 mentors are matched with students. Mentors must
be 18 years or older. To become a mentor, you must attend a training
session, complete a global volunteer/mentor application and consent to
a criminal history record check.
Training Sessions - Registration is REQUIRED. Register for a training
session at www.cyfairisd.formstack.com/forms/training.
If you would like to schedule mentor training at your place of business,
please contact the Community Engagement department, Leslie Francis,
Director of Marketing and Business Relations at 281-894-3950.
A virtual volunteer account will be created for you in vSoft once you have
been approved as a mentor (this is the system that the front desk will use
at the school in order to give you a nametag). Your login information will
then be sent to you by vSoft via email. Access your account by visiting
ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
For the second year in a row, Rosehill has been a top contender for the
coveted TAPPS Henderson Cup. The Henderson Cup is a year-long contest
for “Best Overall School” in the state that takes into account all points
accumulated in sports, fine arts and academic competitions throughout
the year. After moving up from TAPPS classification 2A to 3A this season,
RCS knew that the road to the Henderson Cup would be a challenging
task and that the competition in 3A would be very strong. In 2016, RCS
was the State Runner-up in the 2A Henderson Cup sweepstakes by 15
points. For our move to 3A this year, administrators, coaches, students,
parents and teachers joined together to make a school-wide, concerted
effort to win the highly sought-after trophy. RCS collected points by
placing at the state level in a wide array of extracurricular events,
including: State Champions in Baseball (back-to-back), Cheer and Girls’
Track; State Runner-up in Vocal Music; Third place in Academics (State
Champions in Speech) and Dance; Fourth place in Band; Fifth place in One
Act Play and Art; Bi-district Champions in Girls’ Basketball and playoff
points in Volleyball. It was a groundbreaking year and even though we
crushed our point totals from the previous year, RCS ended up placing
third in the overall Henderson Cup competition by a mere three points.
This third place finish was the strongest TAPPS showing by RCS in our
school’s history. Additionally, we were State Champions for the second
year in a row in overall Fine Arts events by over a 30% margin over all
other TAPPS 3A schools. The Henderson Cup is the ultimate team event
and it demonstrates how the body of Christ works. Each part of the body
is important and together those parts serve an even greater purpose.
Though RCS came in third place in the Henderson Cup, we feel like true
winners, because we accomplished this extraordinary goal together.
Furthermore, coming so close to winning will only make us stronger and
more unified as we look to the 2017-18 season.
Besides the Henderson Cup, TAPPS also recognizes the top coaches and
male and female competitors in the state in Athletics and Fine Arts. These
elite honors are extremely difficult to receive, as all TAPPS schools can
nominate competitors from any sport or fine art and the top individuals
in the state are then voted on by an executive TAPPS panel. We are
pleased to announce, that for only the third time in school history, the
TAPPS 3A State Fine Arts Female Student of the Year is our own Ashley
Alexander. Ashley’s 2016-17 TAPPS accomplishments are undeniable:
State Champion in Original Oratory (Speech); State Runner-up In Ready
Writing and 5 th Place in Literary Criticism (Academics); Gold Medal in
Instrumental Piano Solo (Class I); State Champion in Black & White
Photography (Art); State All-Star Crew for One Act Play and she even
served as a state accompanist for TAPPS Vocal Music, not to mention
her TAPPS accolades throughout her high school career in these same
disciplines. Furthermore, Ashley has accomplished all of this while
earning the title of RCS Valedictorian, with a smile on her face and the
love of Jesus in her heart, shining through to everyone who meets her.
We are so proud of you, Ashley! RCS loves you and we cannot wait to see
how God uses all of your talents as you set sail for the next stage of your
journey. Congratulations!
SHOE DRIVE BENEFITING AARF HOUSTON
(WWW.AARFHOUSTON.ORG)
Girl Scout Cadettes, Faith Wong and Grace Wong, are concerned about
the increasing number of dogs roaming neighborhoods - many ending
up in euthanizing shelters. To help with non-euthanizing efforts, Faith
and Grace wanted to educate the community on ways to prevent loose
and/or lost dogs and offer some suggestions in doing so. As part of their
Silver Award Project (the highest honor of a Girl Scout Cadette), they are
planning organizing and executing the Shoe Drive with AARF Houston
FOSTER CHILDREN:
PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING
When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent.
That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with
necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have
to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last
a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a
program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living
(PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted
by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held
at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by
local businesses. Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that
help change lives with hands-on community service? Contact info@
FRIEND AND FAMILY MEMBER!
Loving Arms Pet Placement has an assortment of wonderful dogs and
cats hoping for their forever homes. We have all different types of small
to large dogs, mixed breeds and many wonderful cats to choose from.
We are a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. If you are not ready to
commit to adopting a dog or cat permanently, the animals also need
foster families. Besides providing food, water and a safe place to sleep,
foster families socialize the animals so they are people friendly. Include
the animal in your daily home life inside your home. Get to know them as
individuals so you can share personality traits, likes/dislikes, anecdotes.
Treat the animal like your own and train him/her, if possible. Although you
may feel sadness when your foster animal is adopted, please know that
your efforts helped to prepare the cat or dog for his/her forever home.
don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have
to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You
don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics
GARDEN TIPS FOR AUGUST
• Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects.
• Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves
and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack
of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates.
• Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone
meal around the roots.
• Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth.
• Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies.
• Chinch bug damage is obvious now. You will have areas of
thin and/or dead turf where they weren’t brought under
control. There is a new generation going now. This batch causes the
most damage. Use Dursban to stop the damage.
• Until the weather gets back to the 80’s, St. Augustine grass grows
slowly. If you fill in with sod, don’t expect a fast turnaround.
The sod may look like it’s not growing while it puts down roots. You
will need to water the new sod often and deeply to get it started
but this also creates a disease environment. Water early so the sun
can dry the turf.
• Now is a good time to work new beds. Till them up, add organic
material, mix it in, then let them cure for a month or so.
Add in any amendments like micro-nutrients. Keep the beds moist so
the microorganisms have a favorable environment.
Walk-ins Welcome
NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZENS DAY
Each year on August 21st, there are various events and activities held
across the United States in recognition of National Senior Citizens
Day. This day was created as a day to support, honor and show
appreciation to our seniors and to recognize their achievements.
Their valuable contributions to our communities create better
places to live. On August 19, 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed
Proclamation 5847 declaring August 21st as National Senior Citizens
Day. For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they
continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a
heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem
by making sure that our communities are good places in which to
mature and grow older - places in which older people can participate
to the fullest and can find the encouragement, acceptance, assistance
and services they need to continue to lead lives of independence and
dignity - President Ronald Reagan.
HOW TO OBSERVE: To celebrate National Senior Citizens Day, spend
time with the senior citizens you know. Let them know that they
are appreciated and loved. It may also be a good day to volunteer
at a retirement home and share your smile with those who may not
otherwise get a visitor today.
If you are a senior citizen, check for special discounts and promotions
that may be offered at stores and restaurants in your area.
Use #SeniorCitizensDay to post on social media.
