the event, but also, in some cases,<br />

partner together.<br />

“It evolved really naturally and<br />

organically,” Rowe said. “Everybody<br />

said yes.”<br />

Rowe kept this event fairly small<br />

so that vendors weren’t competing<br />

with one another in case the turnout<br />

was low.<br />

She needn’t have worried.<br />

“At 8 p.m., there was a sea of people<br />

out there,” Arbogast said.<br />

Jaci Lambert was one of them.<br />

She chatted happily with friends<br />

while her son watched the<br />

skateboarding demonstration.<br />

“We like to support <strong>Auburn</strong>,” she<br />

said. “We attend every fun event<br />

there is.”<br />

One of the skaters Lambert’s son<br />

watched with awe was Carlos Ortiz,<br />

a member of the Milo Snow and<br />

Skate team.<br />

Ortiz, who’s been skateboarding for<br />

20 years, was pleased to be invited<br />

to the event.<br />

“We’re stoked to be out here<br />

representing the community,”<br />

he said. “Skateboarding is such<br />

a positive activity, and it appeals<br />

to everybody: Young, old and inbetween.”<br />

But if skateboarding didn’t appeal<br />

to attendees, senior library assistant<br />

Michael McCurdy offered them<br />

something completely different:<br />

Books . . . and DVDs and magazines.<br />
