artists, farmers and musicians who
agreed to not only show up for
the event, but also, in some cases,
partner together.
“It evolved really naturally and
organically,” Rowe said. “Everybody
said yes.”
Rowe kept this event fairly small
so that vendors weren’t competing
with one another in case the turnout
was low.
She needn’t have worried.
“At 8 p.m., there was a sea of people
out there,” Arbogast said.
Jaci Lambert was one of them.
She chatted happily with friends
while her son watched the
skateboarding demonstration.
“We like to support Auburn,” she
said. “We attend every fun event
there is.”
One of the skaters Lambert’s son
watched with awe was Carlos Ortiz,
a member of the Milo Snow and
Skate team.
Ortiz, who’s been skateboarding for
20 years, was pleased to be invited
to the event.
“We’re stoked to be out here
representing the community,”
he said. “Skateboarding is such
a positive activity, and it appeals
to everybody: Young, old and inbetween.”
But if skateboarding didn’t appeal
to attendees, senior library assistant
Michael McCurdy offered them
something completely different:
Books . . . and DVDs and magazines.
