The fire broke out around 4 a.m. around an electric cable in the tower's main antenna mast, Toronto Fire said. The section is about 480 metres above the ground — just above the tower's Skypod observation deck. Some 30 firefighters and seven fire trucks were at the scene. Fortunately, they didn't have to take the stairs. "We took the elevator up," Toronto Fire District Chief Stephan Powell said. After 40 years, the US has started supplying crude oil to India. "New breakthroughs! oil shipments from US to India has started," said a tweet by the Indian Embassy in Washington. Indian Ambassador Navtej Sarna yesterday exchanged documents for the shipment with Texas Governor Greg. The first shipments which left the US between Aug 6-14 will reach India early next month. President Trump has welcomed the latest development in bilateral relations. The US state department said, ``The President pledged that the United States would continue to be a reliable, long-term supplier of energy. "During the Prime Minister's June visit to the White House, President Trump and Prime Minister Modi committed to a comprehensive review of their trade relations with the goal of creating a fair and reciprocal trading relationship and removing obstacles to growth and jobs creation, including in the energy sector.’’ After President Obama in December 2015 lifted the 40-year-old embargo on crude oil shipments to India, the two countries are deepening their ties in the energy sector. The first contracts of about $100 million have been signed by the Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum. Brampton's Harinder Dhaliwal jailed for 20 years in US in $130m drug racket Agencies TORONTO: A Canadian man has been sentenced to 20 years in a U.S. federal prison for his role in a smuggling operation that sent more than $130 million worth of drugs between the United States and Canada. Prosecutors had argued that Harinder Dhaliwal of Brampton, Ont., should spend 30 years behind bars for his role in the drug trafficking ring, while defence lawyers had argued for a lighter sentence. Judge William Skretny of Buffalo, N.Y., handed the decision down on Wednesday, but did not elaborate on his reasoning. Dhaliwal, who was arrested in Canada in 2014, was among a group of at least six other people indicted on charges related to distribution and exportation of large amounts of cocaine and marijuana between 2006 and 2011. He was held in Canadian custody for nearly two years before being extradited to the U.S. to face charges in April 2016. Weeks later, court documents show that Dhaliwal pleaded guilty to one of the eight charges against him, namely conspiracy to export at least five kilograms of cocaine from the U.S."As part of his plea agreement, the defendant admitted that during the course of the charged conspiracy, he was responsible for the transportation, Continued on page 02 FOR ALL YOUR REAL ESTATE NEEDS Balwinder Singh Sales Representative Dir: 647-273-2025 balthind72@gmail.com 31 Melanie Drive, Unit 4 Brampton, ON L6T 5H8 North America’s Largest Punjabi Culture & Sikhism Store Happy Janamashtmi Wedding Decor Available for Rentals Tel: 905-791-1515 / 905-799-9400 30 Melanie Drive, Unit 10, Brampton, ON L6T 4L4
