2016-2017

A WORD FROM

The President & CEO

Dubuque is amazing! We are so lucky to live in this vibrant and thriving community. List

after list, accolade after accolade - Dubuque is recognized as one of the best places to live,

work, play and do business. Together we are building a better Dubuque and Chamber

members have been at the heart of it all!

We are so proud of our members and all their accomplishments! Your time, talent and

treasure to the Chamber and our community is truly what makes a difference. This past

year, Chamber members have been expanding their businesses, launching new products,

starting new businesses, hiring more people, attracting, retaining and preparing new and

diverse talent. Members have connected with legislators and elected officials making sure

the voice of East Central Iowa is heard. Members have received awards and recognition for

their business outcomes, company culture, and role in our community.

We congratulate all of our members’ successes and sincerely thank you for working with

and through the Chamber to build a better Dubuque. It is because of the committed

support and engagement of our members that we are able to act as your ally, advocate and

change agent.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and team at the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce

we are pleased to share with you the successes of 2016-17 in our Annual Report. Working

together with our members, we are building a better Dubuque. We are so

excited about the Chamber and look forward to another year of making our

community even more amazing.

Sincerely,

A WORD FROM

The Chairman of the Board

What an honor it has been to serve as Board Chair for the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce for the

2016-2017 year. As someone who grew up around the Dubuque business community through the family

business, I have always been well aware of the influence the Chamber has in the Dubuque area. What I

was unaware of until serving on the Chamber Board, was the influence the DACC has at the state and

national levels. Having the ear of legislators from the State of Iowa, as well as the ones in Washington

D.C., is a huge benefit to the Chamber membership.

Much has happened in the last year that I am particularly proud of, and of which the members should be

aware:

The Chamber’s number one surface transportation priority for the last 15 years – the

Southwest Arterial – is well under construction. In addition, your Chamber will continue to

advocate for the completion of the entire 4 lanes by 2019.

The Chamber has developed a business-driven Air Service Task Force.

The Chamber was able to increase attendance significantly and enhance the DC Fly-In.

We were also able to partner with four other local organizations for Dubuque Night in

Des Moines, a significant cost savings to the Chamber, while increasing interest among

other groups.

Your Chamber will also be endorsing state and local political candidates for the first time

beginning this Fall. This is a well thought out and systematic approach to vetting

candidates based on their alignment with Chamber priorities.

There have been many other positive things happening at the Chamber this year, including major

involvement increases in the Young Professionals program and exceeding sponsorship revenue by 12.5%.

A summary of these achievements is

listed in the latter portion of this Annual

Report. Your Chamber continues to use

your investment in the best way possible

to promote the Dubuque Business

Community and, by extension, your

business!

Finally, I urge you to review what the

Chamber is doing on behalf of the

business community, and please,

provide input into any additional

opportunities to better our business

community. The Chamber is a

membership driven

organization and your input is critical to

the DACC fulfilling its mission. Molly and

her team are always at your service.

Thank you for this opportunity and I

wish you all continued success.

A WORD FROM

Our Incoming Chair

On behalf of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support as we enter

this new chamber year! I extend my sincere personal appreciation to Dick Launspach and our other

past leaders who have each shared their unique talent and insights to form this dynamic organization.

This year, we will invest in three visible strategies to build the most relevant business organization

in Iowa.

To ensure membership growth, we will align resources to specifically recruit and retain members.

Building on our tiered dues structure, we are clarifying a clear and immediate return on

investment for new members and we will ensure continued value through active outreach

to specifically engage existing members.

To support our area’s workforce needs, we will promote a “Cool Community” culture by leveraging

and learning from our Young Professionals, fostering entrepreneurship and benchmarking against

similar communities who have most successfully attracted (and retained) vibrant talent.

To build relevance, we will lean into the relationships that we have with our partners including our

governmental, educational and non-profit partners. We recognize our responsibility to inform these

partners and to advocate for the needs and interests of our membership as we all collaborate to

build the strongest, most resilient and vibrant community in the Midwest.

Through these strategies, we look forward to serving you and to earning your continued engagement

every day!
