Food is more than just fuel. It’s a social centerpiece and provides a foundation for some of our fondest, funniest, and most-talked about memories. And in this month’s issue, we have plenty of pieces focused around it, beginning with our feature, Top Chefs (page 35), where Luna Anona introduces you to 10 of our region’s culinary tastemakers—each with their own signature cooking style and skill set. Though the types of cuisine they dish out vastly vary, all of them share a passion for preparing mouthwatering plates. Learn all about them, including their food philosophies, favorite restaurants, top cooking tips, and how they rose to the top, then stop by their respective eateries to taste the fruits of their labor.
Whatever your calendar looks like these next 30 days, I hope it’s filled with good friends, good food, and good times. Cheers!
For more than a year in these pages, we’ve worked hard to bring you the latest information, history, how-to methods, and products surrounding cannabis. In this issue, we’re focusing a little more on people. One of the best parts about a budding industry like the marijuana industry is the personalities that emerge, including Jim McAlpine, founder of the 420 Games and Power Plant Fitness. We hope you enjoy reading about McAlpine’s efforts to help educate the world about marijuana and its benefits.

RUST magazine: Rust#17
Yep, Team USA won, but RUST digs deeper into the real stories that made ISDE 2016…
Instant salvation? Can Rick Kemp atone for a lifetime of misdemeanours by trail riding the Pilgrims’ Way in just one day?
Is the true adventure bike a single-cylinder lightweight super-enduro? CCM think so, but can the GP450 really cut the mustard? From France to Chile, we travel the globe to find out!
Write less, said the editor (me!). That’s really not happening; at 128 pages our latest issue tops our last again. It’s all for your benefit though, and besides, look where dumbing-down gets us – Brexit and Clinton-Trump! Let’s engage our brains, our imagination – and our inspiration for that matter. This issue we’re even embracing medieval history, you don’t get that in many moto-publications.
Anyway, this is also our first birthday – one year, 24 issues. It’s quite a pace, we’re not exactly flat out, or WFO as you might say, but pushing-on certainly. And with each issue our audience is expanding (read the editorial for more on that) so if you’re a new subscriber, welcome!
Anyway, gotta run, there’s a plane to catch and a big adventure ride waiting. Should be epic…
Enjoy your riding, too – and reading!

The world we live in today is wrought with controversy and drastic changes due to our ever-evolving lifestyle. The Internet and social media have had a revolutionary impact on the way we interact, socialize, and even think about the world around us. Even though this technologically induced society we live in is thriving with a plethora of knowledge, society has become even more self-centered. The Speak Up Issue of i-D strives to bring awareness to social, ethical, political, and caring causes. This publication was created as a project for a Current Trends and Forecasting class at the Savannah College of Art and Design. This is a recreation of a i-D magazine and is not an official i-D publication.

The best part of any industry is the people. The products, innovation, and successes are byproducts of passion, foresight, and dedication. The indoor growing industry is no different. Time and time again, we come across people absolutely dedicated to their hydro shop or line of products, moving forward with enthusiasm and a no-quit attitude. This approach is captured perfectly this month in our Q&A with Dr. Earth’s Milo Shammas. In business for 26 years, Dr. Earth now distributes in every US state and employs 122 people. Of course, Shammas didn’t start out that way. He started the business alone with nothing more than a vision and a goal to make plants grow better. In his words, “I was terrified and had to beg, borrow, and work with what I had. I never expected anything and everything was difficult because it was new and I had no one to help me.” It paid off, and Shammas’s story can serve as an inspiration to anybody in any industry. It was certainly a privilege to connect with him, along with the people at Green Planet, Sundrop Farms, Stretch Tie, and Boveda. They all have inspiring and success stories to share, which we feature in this issue of Industry News.
It is these same people that we are always excited to cross paths with at our newly branded GrowX expos. The team here at Maximum Yield is excited to announce the launch of GrowX, set to get underway in 2017. Along with having a cannabis component, GrowX will feature education, business, and networking components developed to bring the industry together. GrowX will make its debut June 3-4, 2017, at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center. A second show is scheduled to take place at Detroit’s Cobo Center from Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2017. We hope to see you there.
