Does your house need some TLC? 

Ignoring important jobs can be costly in the long run 

Owning a home is one of life’s goals for many 

of us. We all need a roof over our heads and 

always best to have a roof that doesn’t leak. If 

it’s down to you to make sure that the roof is 

safe, secure and will keep the rain out then 

you’ll know how important it is to keep on top 

of all the other things that come with owning a 

home. Houses require constant attention and 

you may feel like the list is never ending. 

However regular checks and maintenance will 

not only keep your home safe and warm, it 

should stop those nasty surprises of paying out 

too much money all in one go. 

Exterior paint 

Make sure exterior paint is clean and chip and 

crack free. Years of weather beaten paintwork 

will make your house look tired and can be 

costly if you don’t keep on top of it. 

Keep your gutters clean 

Gutters and downspouts keep water away from 

your home's foundation and are essential to 

any home's structural health. By taking care of 

your roof's drainage system, you can extend the 

life of your roof and help prevent water damage 

to your home. 

Exterior drainage 

Puddles should not stand around your home for 

more than 24 hours. If water stays, or moves 

towards your foundation, you have a few 

options. First, check your gutters. It could be a 

bad spout or a loose connectionor or it could 

just be that they need cleaning. Garden patios 

that gather water may need to be levelled off if 

the ground has become uneven over the years. 

Inspect the roof for damage, leaks, etc. Repair 

as needed; you may need a professional.

Windows 

It is an important measure that will keep your 

windows in good condition and extend their
