1. Executive Summary<br />

The project here on the corner of <strong>Greengate</strong> <strong>and</strong> Chapel Street, <strong>Salford</strong> is a hugely exciting project <strong>and</strong> one that we would dearly love to be involved<br />

with. The nature of the services, the location, the programme, the value, the degree of difficulty <strong>and</strong> indeed the opportunity to work with Carillion <strong>and</strong><br />

all the team is a dream project <strong>and</strong> one we have huge appetite for.<br />

The project comes with it’s challenges <strong>and</strong> one we feel we can embrace <strong>and</strong> bring a real passionate team of expertise <strong>and</strong> know-how. The building being<br />

constructed above the existing Car Park <strong>and</strong> adjacent the newly constructed Building 101 brings constraints <strong>and</strong> we underst<strong>and</strong> the implications added<br />

to already difficult City Centre Building complications. However, we believe with our Team we propose <strong>and</strong> given our vast experience of very similar<br />

scenarios, that we would be an ideal partner to work together to help deliver a very safe, reliable <strong>and</strong> quality install <strong>and</strong> bring a real on-board <strong>and</strong><br />

passionate work-force.<br />

We underst<strong>and</strong> the Construction Programme (we will issue our Programme shortly) <strong>and</strong> this sits perfectly with our forward orders <strong>and</strong> resources<br />

requirements (see Contents Item 12). We also underst<strong>and</strong> the requirements in respect to getting the Design underway <strong>and</strong> we can assure you our Team<br />

(as Contents item 4) are ready to engage with you all immediately if indeed we are successful in getting this appointment.<br />

We underst<strong>and</strong> the BREEAM rating is to be Excellent <strong>and</strong> we have many projects we have designed to this rating <strong>and</strong> have enclosed a number of Case<br />

Studies in this respect.<br />

We also underst<strong>and</strong> the EPC Rating of B with aspirations of A <strong>and</strong> again we have considerable experience <strong>and</strong> have detailed some Case Studies.<br />

We sincerely hope our quotation is of interest to you all <strong>and</strong> we can assure you that if we were fortunate to get this appointment then this would be a<br />

2. Introduction to our Business<br />

We are a privately owned company based in Liverpool <strong>and</strong> provide Design <strong>and</strong> Installation of <strong>Mechanical</strong>, <strong>Electrical</strong> <strong>and</strong> Plumbing<br />

services throughout the Northwest. The company started life back in the 1950’s <strong>and</strong> has developed over recent years to be one of<br />

the largest <strong>and</strong> most successful in its sector <strong>and</strong> this year the turnover is approaching £ 45 Million. We are based in the premises<br />

that we own in Derby Lane, Old Swan in Liverpool <strong>and</strong> have been at this address for nearly 50 Years, buying up adjacent property<br />

as the business grew <strong>and</strong> it has gone from strength to strength. It is owned by the shareholders who are all h<strong>and</strong>s on within <strong>and</strong><br />

who have all been longst<strong>and</strong>ing employees for many years. The succession of the company continues as Directors retire <strong>and</strong> new<br />

blood is introduced. There are currently 300 people within the business, all full time <strong>and</strong> all Plumbers, Fitters <strong>and</strong> Electricians are<br />

directly employed, many of whom have been with the company all their working lives. The company has <strong>and</strong> continues to recruit<br />

<strong>and</strong> train a high level of Apprentices in all disciplines both at craft <strong>and</strong> technical levels. Many of the current Directors <strong>and</strong> senior<br />

management started their working life at A&B <strong>and</strong> the company is proud of its ethos in this respect. It has taken many years,<br />

considerable investment <strong>and</strong> hard work from everyone past <strong>and</strong> present bring the company to where it is now in terms of its<br />

client portfolio, quality reputation, health <strong>and</strong> safety, technical expertise <strong>and</strong> experience <strong>and</strong> the respect it has throughout the<br />

industry in what it strives for <strong>and</strong> what it has achieved. It can be seen from its new website some of the amazing <strong>and</strong> iconic<br />

projects it has been involved with <strong>and</strong> the st<strong>and</strong>ing of the clients for which it works throughout the Northwest on a daily basis.<br />

We are justifiably proud or our achievements <strong>and</strong> awards over recent years. Amongst other things we were voted Regional Sub<br />

Contractor of the year 2012 for BAM Construction. We have recently been promoted to Strategic Partner on Morgan Sindalls<br />

supply chain <strong>and</strong> in 2014 we were awarded Willmott Dixons Regional Sub Contractor of the year. We were also delighted to have<br />

attained Achilles Accreditation in 2014 <strong>and</strong> that allowed us to undertake our first project with Lend Lease <strong>and</strong> what we hope is<br />

the first of many more over the coming years.<br />

The success of the business if it could be described in one word is " people ". Since its formation a long time ago the company's<br />

vision was to invest in the people within it. To recruit, train, develop, mentor <strong>and</strong> bring out the best in every individual <strong>and</strong> grow<br />

them together alongside the growth of the business.<br />

Our vision is to continue on the same path <strong>and</strong> there is an abundance of talent, of all ages, in all disciplines throughout the<br />

maybe. We have an expertise in the requirements of BREEAM accreditation <strong>and</strong> we have delivered many projects achieving the<br />

required credits. We have expertise in renewables <strong>and</strong> we have designed <strong>and</strong> installed numerous schemes utilising Bio-mas<br />

Boilers, Photovoltaic, Combined Heat <strong>and</strong> Power (CHP), Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP), LED Lighting <strong>and</strong> we are a registered<br />

Low Carbon Consultant. We have embraced <strong>and</strong> welcomed changes to Health <strong>and</strong> Safety <strong>and</strong> we have considerable experience<br />

in 3D Modelling <strong>and</strong> BIM with all Engineers using Autodesk Revit Platform on the majority of projects.

Matalan’s Headquarters we undertook was similar to <strong>100</strong> <strong>Embankment</strong> in<br />

terms of the extent of Chilled Water, 4 Pipe Fan Coils.<br />

This was a flagship project for us working with Morgan Sindall we have<br />

completed the design, install <strong>and</strong> commissioning of the <strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Electrical</strong> Services for this new fantastic Headquarters for Matalan. It was<br />

an exciting project for us to deploy many of our directly employed<br />

workforce on the site, the majority of whom live in Knowsley <strong>and</strong> gives<br />

further opportunities to our new <strong>and</strong> long st<strong>and</strong>ing Apprentices. The<br />

project designed by Fletcher Rae Architects <strong>and</strong> Hannan Associates<br />

<strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Electrical</strong> Consultants, will achieve BREEAM “Excellent"<br />

Rating, <strong>and</strong> the services we installed are<br />

District Heating, Absorption Chillers, Chilled Water Distribution, Passive<br />

Chilled Beams, Ventilation Systems, Fan Coil Units, Building<br />

Management Systems, Hot <strong>and</strong> Cold Water, Thermal Insulation, LPHW<br />

Heating, External Services,.PV Installation, Lighting <strong>and</strong> Power, External<br />

Lighting, CCTV, Fire Alarms, Fire Suppression, Structured Wiring, Data,<br />

Intruder Alarms, Commissioning <strong>and</strong> Client Demonstrations<br />

The scheme has been fully complete <strong>and</strong> commissioned at the end of 2014<br />

<strong>and</strong> adds to our impressive portfolio of Commercial Schemes.<br />

After completion we were invited to an awards ceremony were<br />

we awarded " Best Internal Works Contractor " . It was particularly special<br />

for Elliott Griffiths <strong>and</strong> Alan Murphy who were both presented with<br />

awards in recognition of their efforts <strong>and</strong> for that they were nominated as<br />

" Best Site Supervisors ". These awards are very well received by us all at<br />

A&B as it demonstrates an appreciation of the efforts of our whole team,<br />

by so many, in making this project the success that it has been. Well done<br />

UTC @ Media City<br />

University Technical Colleges (UTC's) are government funded schools that<br />

offer 14-18 year olds a great deal more than traditional schools. They teach<br />

students technical <strong>and</strong> scientific subjects in a whole new way <strong>and</strong> are<br />

educating the inventors, engineers, scientists <strong>and</strong> technicians of tomorrow.<br />

This UTC @ Media City that we are working on with BAM Construction will<br />

combine core academic subjects with the opportunity to study <strong>and</strong> gain<br />

practical experience in TV, Film, Graphics <strong>and</strong> Design, Radio <strong>and</strong> Audio or<br />

Interactive Media <strong>and</strong> Gaming. This is the second UTC we have worked on<br />

as we completed the Liverpool Life Sciences UTC a couple of years back with<br />

Kier. Here we were contracted to Design <strong>and</strong> Install :<br />

This project was Designed <strong>and</strong> Drawn in 3D using the AutoCAD Revit<br />

Platform <strong>and</strong> we believe we have delivered a quality installation that our<br />

client can be proud of. It has been another successful partnership with BAM<br />

Construction adding to what we have done together recently at Liverpool<br />

Community College, University of Liverpool <strong>and</strong> where we are currently on<br />

site at Aintree Accident <strong>and</strong> Emergency new build.

University of Liverpool – ERP<br />

Working with BAM Construction we were appointed to carry out the complete<br />

<strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Electrical</strong> installation on the University of Liverpool<br />

Engineering re-structuring programme. This involved the complete<br />

refurbishment of three existing buildings - Civil Engineering, Harrison Hughes<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>Mechanical</strong> Engineering. The department was enthusiastic about the idea<br />

of illuminating the facade of their Active Learning Laboratory <strong>and</strong> as such the<br />

final design which was designed by Arup Lighting <strong>and</strong> Sheppard Robson<br />

Architects can be programmed to display numbers letters as well as infinite<br />

array of lights <strong>and</strong> colour.<br />

This was our first project that we worked with BAM Construction <strong>and</strong> we have<br />

since gone on to work on may fantastic schemes including Liverpool<br />

Community College, UTC @ Media City, five refurbishment projects for<br />

Liverpool Community College <strong>and</strong> the £ 8 Million new Accident <strong>and</strong> Emergency<br />

project at Aintree Hospital. It is testament to that relationship we have<br />

developed together that we were awarded Regional Sub Contractor which is<br />

an award we are all very proud of.<br />

This was a difficult project with many challenges <strong>and</strong> having to maintain, divert<br />

<strong>and</strong> extend complex services within a fully occupied facility was testament to<br />

the expertise our engineers brought to the team as a whole.

Centre <strong>and</strong> Hotel<br />

We are blazing away with our operations on site on this fantastic project at<br />

Manchester Business School for Bruntwood Developments. The project<br />

includes the complete design <strong>and</strong> installation of all the <strong>Mechanical</strong>, <strong>Electrical</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> Plumbing Services on both the 19 storey building which will be two Hotels<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Executive Education Centre. The EEC will provide a new home for the<br />

business schools corporate leadership <strong>and</strong> management programmes.<br />

The hotel will provide a perfect location for all the business school visitors<br />

being located in the heart of Manchester. The l<strong>and</strong>mark development<br />

designed by Architects BDP <strong>and</strong> Leach Rhodes Walker will provide high end<br />

accommodation. Both Crown Plaza (210 Rooms) <strong>and</strong> Staybridge Suites (116<br />

Rooms).We will design <strong>and</strong> install the following :<br />

Sprinkler Installation, External Gas <strong>and</strong> Water, Power Distribution, Submetering,<br />

Lightning Protection, Internal <strong>and</strong> External Lighting, Lighting<br />

Controls, Lightening Protection, Fire Alarms, Intruder Alarms, CCTV, Access<br />

Control, Fire Detection, VRF Heating <strong>and</strong> Cooling to all Bedrooms,<br />

St John Bosco Arts College in Croxteth was among 26 City Schools which<br />

missed out when the coalition government axed Labours Building Schools<br />

for the Future (BSF) Scheme. Then under a scaled down Liverpool Council<br />

led schools transformation, it was given the go-ahead on the Stonebridge<br />

Cross Development. The School has gone from strength to strength <strong>and</strong> has<br />

the highest outst<strong>and</strong>ing Ofsted rating. Now its excellence has caught the<br />

Rhyl High School – North Wales<br />

Rhyl <strong>and</strong> District Intermediate High School was founded in 1894. In<br />

1901 the school was relocated to Grange Road <strong>and</strong> became Rhyl<br />

County School. It subsequently became Rhyl Grammar School after<br />

the war <strong>and</strong> finally was re-named as Rhyl High School. Now a £ 25<br />

Million new school has been completed <strong>and</strong> we were appointed by<br />

Willmott Dixon to undertake the Design <strong>and</strong> Installation of the<br />

complete <strong>Mechanical</strong>, <strong>Electrical</strong> <strong>and</strong> Plumbing services. This state-ofthe-art<br />

facility accommodates 1200 pupils as well as providing a base<br />

for Ysgol Tir Morfa which is a Community Special School which caters<br />

for pupils with a range of additional learning needs.<br />

We committed to a considerable level of local spend <strong>and</strong> with our<br />

network of trade partners <strong>and</strong> merchants within the vicinity we<br />

achieved what was expected. We have many of our operatives who<br />

reside within the area <strong>and</strong> new recruits joined our team of Fitters,<br />

Plumbers <strong>and</strong> Electricians which enabled us to deliver a very safe,<br />

competitive <strong>and</strong> high quality installation.<br />

" Best Internal Works Contractor " . It was particularly special for Elliott<br />

Griffiths <strong>and</strong> Alan Murphy who were both presented with awards in<br />

Supervisors ". These awards are very well received by us all at A&B as it<br />

demonstrates an appreciation of the efforts of our whole team, by so many,<br />

The appointment by Bowmer <strong>and</strong> Kirkl<strong>and</strong> for us to Design <strong>and</strong> Install<br />

the complete <strong>Mechanical</strong>, <strong>Electrical</strong> <strong>and</strong> Plumbing services was our first<br />

project working together <strong>and</strong> one that was hugely exciting for us all. The<br />

project has a total of 112nr Hotel Bedrooms on floors 7 to 10 whilst floors<br />

1 to 6 comprises of office accommodation. The ground floor<br />

accommodates the Media Hub together with Hotel entrance, lobby, <strong>and</strong><br />

reception together with restaurant <strong>and</strong> kitchens too. The Media Hub is<br />

expected to be an attractive resource for business users <strong>and</strong> the local<br />

economy <strong>and</strong> includes hosting work stations, meetings <strong>and</strong> conference<br />

events. We Designed <strong>and</strong> Installed the following services :<br />

VRF Heating <strong>and</strong> Cooling, Sprinkler Systems, Ventilation Services, Hot<br />

This was a fantastic scheme that added to our portfolio of Hotels <strong>and</strong><br />

Office schemes <strong>and</strong> what we hope was the first of many successful<br />

projects with Bowmer <strong>and</strong> Kirkl<strong>and</strong>. It allowed us to deploy many of our<br />

local workforce <strong>and</strong> supply chain partners together with helping<br />

development of some of our long term Apprentices.<br />

Rhyl High School – EPC A Rated<br />

In 2016 we completed Rhyl Highschool which achieved an A rated Energy<br />

Performance Certificate. Dynamic thermal <strong>and</strong> Energy Modelling was carried out<br />

using IES VE software to level 5 complexity, this helped us determine the best<br />

<strong>and</strong> most appropriate systems needed to achieve such a tremendous rating.<br />

A combination of district heating using Biomass, natural ventilation, LED lighting<br />

with daylight dimming <strong>and</strong> 406m2 of photovoltaic panels all contributed to the<br />

overall EPC rating. We worked closely with the main contract team to determine<br />

the most effective balance of the buildings thermal characteristics, this included<br />

thermal U values, air permeability, window G values <strong>and</strong> Bris Soleil. Using IES VE<br />

allowed us to try different solutions quickly allowing the team to assess costs <strong>and</strong><br />

select the best solution for the client.<br />

We are very proud to have been part of Rhyl High School project which went on<br />

to win the CLAW project of the year award <strong>and</strong> has been shortlisted for a RIBA<br />

award.

Rhyl High School – North Wales<br />

Rhyl <strong>and</strong> District Intermediate High School was founded in 1894. In 1901<br />

the school was relocated to Grange Road <strong>and</strong> became Rhyl County School.<br />

It subsequently became Rhyl Grammar School after the war <strong>and</strong> finally<br />

was re-named as Rhyl High School. Now a £ 25 Million new school has<br />

been completed <strong>and</strong> we were appointed by Willmott Dixon to undertake<br />

the Design <strong>and</strong> Installation of the complete <strong>Mechanical</strong>, <strong>Electrical</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

Plumbing services. This state-of-the-art facility accommodates 1200 pupils<br />

as well as providing a base for Ysgol Tir Morfa which is a Community<br />

Special School which caters for pupils with a range of additional learning<br />

needs.<br />

We committed to a considerable level of local spend <strong>and</strong> with our network<br />

of trade partners <strong>and</strong> merchants within the vicinity we achieved what was<br />

expected. We have many of our operatives who reside within the area <strong>and</strong><br />

new recruits joined our team of Fitters, Plumbers <strong>and</strong> Electricians which<br />

enabled us to deliver a very safe, competitive <strong>and</strong> high quality installation.<br />

<strong>and</strong> surrounding area. With a start on site for us in March 2015 we<br />

completed <strong>and</strong> fully Commissioned <strong>and</strong> achieved H<strong>and</strong>over in early 2016.

We celebrated the news of our appointment by Carillion for us to<br />

undertake the complete <strong>Mechanical</strong>, <strong>Electrical</strong> <strong>and</strong> Plumbing Design <strong>and</strong><br />

Installation of all services to the next phase of Ask Real Estates Grade A<br />

office building on their First Street Development in Manchester. The seven<br />

storey fully Air Conditioned building, designed by Fletcher Priest Architects<br />

<strong>and</strong> Cundall <strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Electrical</strong> Consultants. Gazprom - the global<br />

Energy company have agreed to take the 5th <strong>and</strong> <strong>6th</strong> floors <strong>and</strong> our works<br />

encompass their specific fit out requirements.<br />

Our appointment encompassed for our full design <strong>and</strong> we will undertake<br />

full BIM Modelling Level 2 <strong>and</strong> was drawn <strong>and</strong> designed by our in-house<br />

We have demonstrated above that we aim to achieve monthly sales of approx. £ 4.0 Million per month <strong>and</strong> we have been<br />

achieving this over the last couple of years in a very controlled fashion.<br />

Commissioning of this project for <strong>100</strong> <strong>Embankment</strong> – <strong>Greengate</strong>, <strong>Salford</strong> is Managed by our In-House Commissioning Manager<br />

Ray Jones. Ray heads a team of dedicated Commissioning Engineers who work to deliver all our Commissioning requirements<br />

across all of our projects <strong>and</strong> have done so for may years. Seasonal Commissioning is included in our bid.<br />

Soft L<strong>and</strong>ings would be achieved adhering to the BISRA Soft L<strong>and</strong>ings requirements <strong>and</strong> from start to finish <strong>and</strong> beyond on this<br />

project.<br />

Our Engineers <strong>and</strong> Site Managers will remain on site after the project h<strong>and</strong>over to ensure the requirements in this respect are<br />

met. Zero Defects policy is adhered <strong>and</strong> managed throughout the project to work to achieve the Soft L<strong>and</strong>ings Targets.<br />
