example of that.” The purpose-built facility will comprise
of a discharge station for LNG trailers or containers,
feeding pumps, vacuum-insulated piping and bunkering
equipment to facilitate efficient operations. The
installation will also satisfy the stricter sulphur directive
for shipping and has been designated by the EU as one of
the most prioritised infrastructure projects in Europe.
MAN Cryo will oversee the project under the terms of
an EPC contract including engineering, procurement and
construction, and managed from MAN Diesel & Turbo’s
local Gothenburg office.
The facility is scheduled to open during 2018 and will
be operated and managed by Swedegas in close
cooperation with the Port of Gothenburg.
The Port of Gothenburg is the largest port in the Nordic
countries with over 6,000 ship visits per year from over
140 destinations worldwide. As the only Swedish port
with the capacity to cope with the very largest, oceangoing
container ships, Gothenburg handles nearly 30% of the
country's foreign trade, comprising 40 million tonnes of
freight annually.
WÄRTSILÄ TANKS FOR LNG BUNKER BARGE
Wärtsilä has secured a deal to supply the cargo handling
system and cargo tanks to a new 3000m3 LNG bunker
barge under construction in Romania for a consortium of
French and Belgian interests.
When delivered, the barge will be chartered to Shell
Western LNG B.V. (Shell), operating out of Rotterdam to
provide the Victrol CFT Corporation consortium with
additional flexibility to bunker LNG fuelled ships,
including vessels operating on Europe's inland waterways.
"Our strength throughout the LNG value chain is well
known, and this new bunker vessel provides yet another
link to this chain," says Timo Koponen, Vice President,
Flow & Gas Solutions, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.
"Wärtsilä is a leader in gas handling technology and we
are pleased to have them as a partner in this newbuild
project. Furthermore, their ability to provide the
equipment on a fast-track basis is important for the
delivery scheduling of this barge," says Gisele Maes
Buelens, Victrol.
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions offers innovative and energy
efficient systems for a number of gas segment
applications, including for all types of gas carriers,
terminals, and fuel gas supply systems.
SHORE POWER
SHORE POWER CAN SIGNIFICANTLY CUT CO2
If the shore power dispenser unit charging the Vision of
the Fjords at the Flåm berth is rolled out to other
Norwegian ports, it could reduce he country’s CO2
emissions by as much as 12.5 million tonnes every year.
This is the conclusion to a report compiled by ABB, the
Port of Oslo, and Cavotec, working under the auspices of
ReCharge, an initiative that seeks to pave the way for
zero emission ports in the Scandinavian country.
The ReCharge project has assessed where emissions in
Norwegian ports are generated, where there is greatest
potential for reductions, and what kind of charging and
