The Chairman's Notes
Today we welcome our near neighbours and great friends
Willenhall Town to the Paycare Ground. In par7cular I would
like to extend a par7cularly warm welcome to Simon and
Sharon Hall. They are the heartbeat of Willenhall Town FC and
have been very suppor7ve to me and the club since we reformed.
Win, lose or draw today the players, supporters and
officials are welcome to join us for our award-winning
hospitality.
Over the years both clubs have been giants in West Midlands
League football. Whilst we have both fallen on harder 7mes recently our histories can
never be deleted from the history books and we are both s7ll alive and kicking. In the
case of Willenhall Town over recent seasons that has been en7rely down to Simon and
Sharon. This is the first 7me the clubs have met in a compe77ve game since March
2013 when we ran out 4-1 winners in a West Midlands League Premier Division game at
Noose Lane, our home game resulted in a 5-0 win for our visitors.
Whilst it is very early days, the Division is star7ng to take shape and unbelievably a@er
just 2 League games there are only 5 clubs in the Division with maximum points. Not
unexpectedly the teams which did well in the Division last season are riding high with
Worcester Raiders (finished 3rd), Newport Town (4th), Tipton Town (6th) and ourselves
amongst those sides with maximum points. The other being newcomers, AllscoC. I
predicted a tough and close season and I think it is evident from the two opening games
of the season that every team will have to fight for every point this season.
I must men7on our magnificent support over the pre season and for our opening two
home games. Our last 3 games have all seen more than 100 paying spectators come
through the gates. Without doubt that means we are in the top 2 in the en7re League.
The gate of 108 last Saturday was almost certainly the biggest in the Division and only
Bilston Town in the Premier Division may have had a bigger gate. I know the
management team and players are buoyed by your support. To you all, I say a massive
thank you and long may it con7nue.
Finally I would like to acknowledge the professionalism and courtesy of the players and
officials of last week's visitors St Mar7ns FC. They were an absolute credit to their club
and the League. The officials were friendly, complimentary, good company and
courteous from the moment they arrived. The management and players le@ the
dressing rooms extremely 7dy and to round it off St Mar7ns secretary Nick Durman
took the 7me and trouble to drop us an email thanking us for our "great hospitality".
Class people.
Enjoy the game and con7nue to give your 100% support to Andy and the
team............ 3
