The Canadian Parvasi Priyanka steals limelight with her dress at Emmy awards Agencies MUMBAI: Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who turned 67 on Monday, was wished a year full of love by Bollywood celebrities including Shekhar Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor, who described her as inspirational. Shabana, daughter of poet Kaifi Azmi and stage actress Shaukat Azmi, made her film debut in 1974 with "Ankur" and soon became one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema. She has won five National Film Awards for Best Actress and several international honours. She was also lauded with a Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour of the country. Priyanka, who was here to present an award at the ceremony on September 17, made heads turn with her full-sleeves ensemble, which was adorned with crystals and had a feather skirt train. With her hair neatly tied in a ponytail, her lips done up in deep berry red and dramatic eye makeup, the "Quantico" star exuded a fierce and powerful demeanour at the red carpet of the gala. In terms of accessories, she chose to go minimalistic with only a pair of earrings which added elegance to her look. Last year, Priyanka had made her debut at the Emmy Awards and left a lasting impression with a confident twirl in a red single shoulder gown. Bollywood star Salman Khan seen feeding his sister's son. Guaahar Khan in a Punjabi song Agencies MUMBAI: Actress Gauahar Khan, who featured in the film "Begum Jaan" earlier this year with actress Vidya Balan, has starred in a Punjabi song titled "Bewafaai". The video of the song, which released on Sunday, has been directed by Arvindr Khaira. Gauhar is seen alongside actor Anuj Sachdeva in the video. The song has been sung by B Praak. Gauahar, who made her debut in the Punjabi film industry with the 2015 movie "Oh Yaara Ainvayi Ainvayi Lut Gaya", said in a statement: "It was my wish to work with Arvindr Khaira. Plus, it was with B Praak. Also, there was a lot of scope to perform on the song. I always want to show my capabilities as an actor." Khaira posted the link of the song on Facebook and wrote: "After giving the forever track 'Mann bharrya', B Praak is back with 'Bewafaai'...featuring very talented Gauahar Khan and Anuj Sachdeva."
The International News Weekly Sports September 22, 2017 | Toronto 21 Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur debuts as a fashion model By Kishori Sud MYSURU: Indian women's cricket team Vice Captain Harmanpreet Kaur debuted on the ramp for designer Archana Kochhar at the Mysore Fashion Week 2017 in association with the brand Crocs, here, on Sunday. Clad in an elegant blue lehenga, Kaur walked a bit nervously on the stage but did not let her humble smile go as the jam packed venue cheered the cricketer. Talking about her first time experience at a fashion week, Kaur told IANS : "I was very nervous because it's my first and I wanted to try something new and different as well, Aso why not try the ramp." The three-day long extravaganza which started on September 15 and ended on Saturday, took place here at the Radisson Blu Plaza Mysuru. The evening also had designers Roshan, Reshma Kunhi, Vijaya Lakshmi and Shravan Kummar. Kunhi showcased collection of Indian bridal wear with elaborate themes, craftsmanship, embroidered bodices with modern fabrics and cuts. Actress Pranitha Subhash walked the ramp for Lakshmi under the brand Vijayalakshmi Silks, who showcased gorgeous saris with some heavy pallus and borders in bold colours like golden, reds, greens, with contrast blouses. South actress Rashmika Mandanna dazzled the ramp for Kummar, who unveiled his collection of ensembles inspired by art. "Each garment is made out of two to three Gollabhama sarees combined with Telia Rumal, and layered off-shoulder collared anarkalis, and ruffled sleeves give a dramatic feel to the garments," said Kummar. His collection had Ikat prints and pom-poms on pallus, matched and contrasted with different kind of blouses. The brand Crocs held a special show which had individuals from different walks of life like Sandeep Gowda and Karun, members from the LGBT community, where Sandeep confidently did the cat walk in a maroon hued gown with a golden latkan, and transgender model Anjali, flaunting different styles and types of Crocs. The show had models dancing to the tunes of different tracks including "Kala chashma", wearing casuals to formals to bridal wear. Dhoni recommended for Padma Bhushan David Warner is under pressure, says Kuldeep Yadav IANS MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated veteran star Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the Padma Bhushan, the nation's third highest civilian award. "Yes, it's confirmed, we have recommended Dhoni's name for the Padma Bhushan," BCCI Acting President C.K. Khanna told IANS on Wednesday. Former captains Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid and Chandu Borde have received the award earlier. Dhoni, who made his international debut in 2004, is the most successful captain for the Indian cricket team. He has led the team to two World Cup titles -- the World Twenty20 in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup in 2011. Under the 36-year-old's captaincy, India also won the 2013 Champions Trophy besides becoming the top ranked team in Test cricket. He has scored 4,876 runs in 90 Test matches, which includes six centuries and 33 half-centuries. In One-Day Internationals (ODIs) he is the fourth highest scorer for India with 9,739 runs in 302 matches, notching up 10 centuries and 66 half-centuries along the way. IANS KOLKATA: Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav relishes the opportunity of getting Australia opener David Warner out time and again and feels the southpaw comes under pressure every time he bowls to him. "If you are all over a batsman, you don't feel the pressure. I think Warner is under pressure when he is playing me. He feels I can get him out any time," Kuldeep told reporters ahead of India's second One-Day International (ODI) at the Eden Gardens here against the Aussies on Thursday. "I feel good when I bowl to Warner. I set up a plan when I bowl to him. Hopefully, I will get him out on more occasions in the next four ODIs," the 22-year-old said. Kuldeep got Warner out in the first rubber in Chennai with a slider that went straight through at the same line with Warner going for a cut and getting a big outside edge to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who took a sharp catch. This was not the first time Warner failed to read the left-arm trickery of Kuldeep who got his back on debut in the fourth Test in Dharamsala too. That was not it. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Kanpur lad sent the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper back in the hut here four months back. Asked who is the toughest batsman to bowl to in the Australian side, Kuldeep said it is skipper Steve Smith. "In Tests, I have seen him reading the balls well. He knows how to eke out singles. I feel it is tough to bowl to him. Generally, he prefers playing on the leg stump. Whenever he feels, he hits a four and likewise takes a single at will. So I feel it is tough to bowl to him," he said. Kuldeep said India always want to get Warner out early, and it is a good opportunity for spinners to take control of the game once he and Smith are out of the picture at the start of the innings. "In any team if you get the top two batsmen out it's helpful. We always want to get Warner out as early as we can as he can change the game from any stage. Smith is also a quality player and once he gets in, he can strike well and stretch the game," he said. Talking about two wrist spinners (Kuldeep and Yuzvendra Chahal) bowling in tandem, a first for India ever in ODIs, he said: "Whenever I played, I played with a left-arm spinner. Or in Ranji Trophy, I played with Piyush (Chawla) bhai but not for a long time. Now good experience as we have two wrist spinners in the side. "The chances of taking a wicket increases. If you have two attacking spinners wickets come more. left arm spinners don't have much variations so the batsman won't take much chances. But a wrist spinner can deceive him, I feel." Kuldeep said with frontline spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja not being included in the team in this series, although Jadeja replaced injured Axar Patel at the last moment, the responsibility for delivering the goods is more on them. "We have a lot of responsibility. We are two young spinners and we can go through spells at times when we won't be getting wickets. So it's a good experience also for us because the more we will do well now, we will form a partnership for the future in Indian cricket. We still have lots to learn. We will mature series by series."
