Chairman, Board of Trustees

OVERVIEW
Established in 1946, Lexington Christian Academy (LCA)
is New England’s oldest independent Christian college
preparatory school, located 20 minutes from Harvard
Square and 30 minutes from downtown Boston. LCA
was founded with the belief that faith and learning are
key and inseparable components of education. LCA
currently serves 300 day and boarding students in grades 6
through 12.
From state-of-the-art science facilities to award-winning
visual artists, Lexington Christian Academy stands out
as one of the top Christian schools in the country
academically. In fact, LCA is one of only 12 of the 2,000+
ACSI schools that have achieved an “exemplary” accreditation.
LCA is also recognized as a strong competitor among all
of the outstanding college preparatory schools in the Boston
area. LCA promotes the highest standards for college prep
education, so LCA graduates have thrived at Berklee
College of Music, Boston University, Brown University,
Calvin College, Dartmouth College, Georgetown
University, Gordon College, Harvard University, Johns
Hopkins University, Liberty University, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Pennsylvania,
Princeton University, Rhode Island School of Design,
Stanford University, and Wheaton College. Alumni of
Lexington Christian Academy have gone on to a wide
range of vocations. This includes senior executive leaders at
Apple, Fidelity, Google, Home Depot, and NASA, officers
and combat pilots serving in our Military, a translator of
the NIV Bible, missionaries in prison ministry, playing for
the Atlanta Braves organization, and reaching the highest
level in the arts with Broadway performances and a
Grammy Award.
LCA’s founders believed that excellent college preparatory
education was possible without compromising the
Christian philosophy of the school. The Christian faith
informs every aspect of LCA’s academic community.
Teachers and staff are committed to helping students think
critically about the essential elements of the Christian faith
both in the classroom and in every area of life.
Located in a city of world class hospitals, universities,
and medical research institutions, LCA is strategically
positioned to educate future world-class Christian leaders
in this intersection of culture and faith. The next Head
of School will be energized by both the realities and
opportunities of shaping future leaders in this context and
by the chance to have a long-lasting impact on culture
through LCA.
The stability of LCA’s finances and longevity of board
members and faculty are noteworthy, and this longevity
in no way implies complacency. The board and faculty
nurture a culture of continuous improvement, innovation,
and optimization, made possible in part by the financial
health of the school. Recently, LCA purchased the North
Campus property, formerly Lexington Prep School, just a
half-mile away. The North Campus is a beautiful boarding
facility, which opens many new opportunities for growth
and expansion in boarding, learning, and auxiliary
programs. The next Head of School needs to be a leader
who will help build enrollment and maximize the potential
of that space, both for international and domestic boarding
students.
The next Head of Lexington Christian Academy must be
a committed, mature believer who understands Christian
education and has a track record of accomplishment in that
realm. In addition, this leader needs to be a person who has
a commitment to academic excellence, has strong executive
management skills, has made/can make effective key hires,
has experience in cultivating donors, and can communicate
in a manner that inspires trust and confidence. In sum,
LCA’s next Head of School needs to possess the executive
management and strategic thinking skills to lead an already
excellent school to be even better.

STATEMENT OF BELIEF
Lexington Christian Academy is an independent college preparatory school that exists to educate young men
and women in the arts and sciences in the context of a complete commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The
Statement of Faith for all Lexington Christian Academy faculty and staff follows:
1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God.
2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His
vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right
hand of the Father, and in His personal return to power and glory.
4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

HISTORY
of Lexington Christian Academy
Elizabeth Evans had a vision to build a network of
Christian elementary schools in the Boston suburbs
that would serve as feeder schools for a central high
school in Boston. With the help of local evangelical
leaders such as Harold John Ockenga, Pastor of Park
Street Church, and T. Leonard Lewis, President of
Gordon College, Ms. Evans proceeded with the plans
to start a secondary school. Boston Christian High
School opened in 1946 and the school quickly outgrew
its small space above a bowling alley on Huntington
Avenue. The renamed school, Christian High School,
moved to Garden Street in Cambridge.
In 1965 Christian High School moved once again to
its current location, changing its name to Lexington
Christian Academy. The Academy has been fully accredited
since 1967 by the New England Association
of Schools and Colleges.
For more than 70 years, God has worked through a
community of board members, faculty, and parents
committed to a Christian education for young men
and women in the Boston area. A committed faculty
and staff of men and women help students to view
every subject area and all of life through the lens of
a Christian world view. LCA’s curriculum is college
preparatory and liberal arts by design.
In the 1990s, LCA underwent a thorough curriculum
review and developed a plan to strengthen its
curriculum. Over the next decade, AP courses were
added and the faculty prioritized developing a strong
and vibrant liberal arts curriculum.
In the early 2000s, LCA broadened its footprint as a
national leader in Christian education through its
hosting of the Educators Veritas Conferences. At these
events, prominent Christian educators and leaders
held workshops and gave addresses on topics ranging
from the role of the arts in the Christian faith to the
integration of faith and science.
Also in the early 2000s more international students
were applying to LCA. This increase in enrollment
of international students not only extended the reach
of its mission to internationals, but also strengthened
and enriched the academic program for local students.
In 2010, LCA students were champions in the MIT/
NASA Team Zero/BotX International Space Station
Competition.
To provide for the updated curriculum and to
become a leading academic institution with vibrant
athletics and arts programs, LCA has continuously
improved its facilities over the last two decades.
LCA added new classrooms, a spacious library, a
new gym and athletic fields, and art and music
instructional spaces. LCA’s buildings have both wireless
and hardwired internet access. Five state-of-the-art
science labs have been added, the last two through a
generous gift from the Van Lunen Foundation. In
2013 the Cross Worship and Performing Arts Center
was built, and in 2015 LCA constructed the First Fruits
Fitness Center.
In 2016 LCA was named an “Exemplary School”
by the Association of Christian Schools International

ACSI). This recognizes LCA as a flourishing
Christian School and a leader in Christian Education.
With the growth of international students, LCA
obtained membership in TABS (The Association of
Boarding Schools) in 2016 which provides opportunities
for developing the program as well as additional
recruiting.
In 2017, LCA made the largest acquisition in its history,
buying a second campus with existing auxiliary
programs less than a half-mile away. The property, now
known as LCA North Campus, consists of a 52,000 sq. ft.
facility on 6 acres (which complements our main campus
with an 85,000 sq. ft. facility on 29 acres). The North
Campus includes dormitories to lodge 80 students, as well
as classroom and recreational space. On the main campus,
LCA was also pleased to launch a new hands-on learning
classroom, Maker Space, funded by a 2016 grant from the
MacLellan Foundation.
LCA continues its tradition as a leader in Christian
education by hosting the annual ACSI Professional
Development Forum as part of the Cultivating Inquiry
initiative. LCA faculty annually lead workshops and
present on topics in education both at this conference and
at educational conferences specific to their disciplines.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Lexington Christian Academy
Spiritual Life
A true, traditional liberal arts curriculum is infused
with Christian faith as LCA seeks to educate the whole
person. Faith informs every aspect of LCA’s academic
community, while differences in perspectives add richness
to dialogue and discussions. Staff and faculty seek to
integrate faith and learning into every aspect of LCA
and the community—through weekly chapels, spiritual
conversations both in and out of the classroom, reflection
and prayer. LCA’s goal is that all students will grow
spiritually, such that they:
• Understand God’s love for them and develop a
deeper relationship with Him.
• Understand the Biblical narrative and know
how to apply it to their daily lives.
• Develop deep convictions to love and serve
their neighbors.
• Offer spiritual leadership within their homes,
churches, and communities.
Academics
LCA offers students a world-class curriculum that focuses
on a profound understanding of the arts, humanities,
and sciences. LCA faculty employ the latest educational
models to strengthen conceptual, abstract, and
critical thinking. Students may also commit to the
extra scholarship of
independent work in
Global Studies, Math,
Science and Technology,
and the Arts. Faculty
mentors in grades 10-
12 help concentration students collaborate, solve
problems, and communicate and interact globally.
Arts
LCA is committed to nurturing students’ God-given
ability to think critically about the world and
synthesize their thoughts artistically through music,
theater, and visual arts. LCA produces award-winning
artists in stained glass, pottery, painting, drawing, and
photography. LCA students immerse themselves in
their creative processes with the Advanced
Portfolio Program and
AP Studio Art to
prepare for college
careers at top schools
like RISD, The Museum
School, and the Art
Institute of Chicago.
The 430-seat Cross Worship and Performing Arts
Center is the newest showcase for LCA’s exemplary
music, theater programs and visual arts. Recent theater
productions include Little Women, Good Women
of Setzuan, and Pirates of Penzance. Musical
performances by the Chamber Singers, Select Chorus,
Wind Ensemble, Chamber Strings, and Chorale are
an important part of LCA’s rich annual tradition.
The Cross Center also has a gallery in which art is
displayed and changed on a rotating basis for the school
community and visitors to enjoy.
Atheletics
LCA’s students are well-balanced and heavily involved
in the overall community, including athletics. Almost
80% of upper school students participate in athletics,
and many play multiple sports. At the middle school
level, each student is required to play at least one
sports season, and many of those choose to play

two or three seasons. At LCA sports are considered
participatory in middle school and competitive in high
school. Inter-scholastic
sports offered include:
Cross Country, Golf,
Field Hockey, Boys
Soccer, Girls Soccer,
Wrestling, Boys Basketball,
Girls Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Boys Lacrosse,
Independent League (EIL) and the New England
Preparatory School Athletic Counsel (NEPSAC) and has
a rich history of team championships over the years.
constituent groups. In this case, these goals can be described as capitalizing on Lexington Christian Academy’s
many existing strengths rather than implementing drastic change or overcoming severe challenges.
The board’s expectation is for the Head of School to focus on the following key goals:
• Inspire, motivate, and lead the faculty and staff.
• Promote spiritual growth and a healthy student culture.
• Relentlessly strive for continuous improvement in academic programs by continuing to hire excellent
faculty to improve teaching quality and consistency. Ensure the curriculum has 21st century relevance by
focusing on an academic curriculum, which is interdisciplinary, interactive, collaborative, and creative.
• Hire and manage operations and marketing staff to grow programs. With the recent purchase of
Lexington Prep School, renamed LCA North Campus, strategically grow co-curricular and boarding
programs over the next five years utilizing this space and manage, shepherd and hire as needed the right
people to maximize this growth. Specific long-term goals include the following:
• Grow boarding program from 40 to 50 students.
• Maintain Meadow Breeze summer camp success.
• Integrate and grow existing Lexington Prep summer test preparation program.
• Oversee launch and growth of AECIP program to 25 students.
• Implement strategy for long-term enrollment growth and develop long-term endowment strategy by
engaging the target market, keeping our best customers, and communicating effectively and consistently. In
the next five years, the goal is to grow enrollment from 300 to 335 and maximize the new opportunities for
boarding on the North Campus. In addition to a $400,000 annual fund, develop a long-term endowment
strategy to grow our current $10 million endowment.

LOCATION
Lexington, Massachussets
With a nickname like “Birthplace of American Liberty’’ you can
get a sense of Lexington’s historic nature. Only 11 short miles from
Boston down Massachusetts Avenue, it was here where the “shot
heard round the world’’ was fired, leading to the start of the American
Revolution. But beyond the town’s association with one of the most
significant moments in American history lies an excellent place to
live in the present.
Nearby Boston is the largest city in New England and ranks among
the top cities globally as an economic hub. At the heart of Boston’s
character is a legacy built on innovation and creativity centered on neighboring Cambridge. Anchored by MIT
and Harvard and peppered with a total of seven Top 50 schools, world renowned research institutes and teaching
hospitals, the metro Boston area is a true knowledge economy. Driven by the education, healthcare, life science,
finance, and high tech business sectors, Greater Boston has evolved into a diverse and stable economy earning an
enviable global reputation. The Boston metro area continues to attract top talent, businesses and investors who
choose Boston as their place to live, work, invest, and play.
Greater Boston is home to more than 50 higher education establishments that generate thousands
of graduates every year. Roughly 50% of these graduates stay in the Greater Boston area,
bolstering the city’s highly educated workforce. Over 44% of the city’s population holds a
Bachelor’s degree or higher compared to 29% nationally, ranking Boston 5th in education.
This intellectual infrastructure is a stabilizing economic force, and will invariably continue to
propel economic activity and attract new businesses, students, and families to Boston.
The highly educated workforce and innovative environment were specific factors cited recently by General Electric
for why it chose to relocate its global headquarters to Boston in 2016. Jeffrey Immelt, GE Chairman and former
CEO recently stated “GE aspires to be the most competitive company in the world. Massachusetts spends more on
research & development than any other region in the world, and Boston attracts a diverse, technologically-fluent
workforce focused on solving challenges for the world. We are excited to bring our headquarters to this dynamic
and creative city.”
Boston is known as somewhat of a fanatical sports town with the Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox bringing
people out in droves to celebrate the Great American pastimes - and multiple championships over the last decade
With easy access to beaches, lakes, and mountains, as well as a world-renowned cultural center for all of the arts, the
Boston area offers unlimited activities, entertainment, and history for all to enjoy.
