In August 2017, SchoolCare were approached by the City of London<br />
Academy to assist with an issue encountered with their nominiated<br />
telephony provider who were unable to deliver service to site in<br />
time for the schools opening in September 2017.<br />

delivery of both copper and fibre infrastructure from nominated<br />
providers were encountered.

City of London Academy <strong>Shoreditch</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is a new secondary<br />
school which opened in September 2017 and forms part of the<br />
ever expanding group of schools which make up the City of London<br />
Academy.<br />
THE CHALLENGE<br />
The City of London Academy <strong>Shoreditch</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is a brand new<br />
site which was in the final stages of build and commissioning<br />
at the point at which SchoolCare was engaged as part of<br />
another project within the City of London Academy Trust.<br />
During the build <strong>CoLA</strong> <strong>Shoreditch</strong> park faced some challenges<br />
with the provision of telecommunications infrastructure,<br />
both from the fibre provider contracted by the LGfL and also<br />
the nominated PSTN provider. The challenges faced are not<br />
uncommon when providing service to a brand new building,<br />
but none the less posed an issue which threatened the timely<br />
opening of the site in September 2017.<br />
THE SOLUTION<br />
As part of the PSD Group, SchoolCare have access to a wealth<br />
of technology options and expertise, which allows problems<br />
such as this to be tackled head on and bespoke solutions<br />
designed to deliver the desired result.<br />
The school had managed to secure a temporary connection<br />
to the internet via Virgin Media, offering limited but at least<br />
functional bandwidth. Due to the way that the LGfL’s network<br />
is constructed, the deployment of Voice Over IP (VoIP) from<br />
other providers is not possible and as such a non starter for<br />
most VoIP providers.<br />
The PSD Group own and operate a private network offering<br />
both Broadband and Telephony Services. Due to the fact that<br />
the network is 100% owned and operated by PSD, the ability<br />
to build “on the fly” bespoke solutions leant itself well to<br />
providing a solution to this problem.<br />
SchoolCare securely tunnelled voice traffic through the LGfL’s<br />
network into SchoolCare’s private infrastructure and interfaced<br />
directly with the existing Avaya IP500 phone system which<br />
had been deployed as part of the <strong>CoLA</strong> <strong>Shoreditch</strong> <strong>Park</strong> build.<br />

secure voice traffic both in and<br />
out of the <strong>CoLA</strong> <strong>Shoreditch</strong><br />
<strong>Park</strong> site ensuring the school<br />
could open on time.<br />

allowed <strong>CoLA</strong> <strong>Shoreditch</strong> <strong>Park</strong><br />
to be up and running within<br />
24 hours.<br />
THE RESULTS<br />
<strong>CoLA</strong> Shoredith <strong>Park</strong> now have<br />
fully functioning telephony<br />
services, both in and out of<br />
the site. Initially deployed<br />
with 2 channels (due to<br />
limited bandwidth), this will<br />
be increased “on the fly” with<br />
no onsite changes required<br />
when the new LGfL Leased<br />
line is deployed.<br />
SchoolCare are able to deliver<br />
services anywhere over any<br />
network regardless of the<br />
provider. The ability to work<br />
alongside third parties where<br />
necessary, or undertake<br />
configuration of existing<br />
systems where required<br />
allows SchoolCare to design<br />
and deploy bespoke network<br />
solutions to tackle any<br />
challenge.<br />
