Hibit’s paintings are characterized by crisp imagery and exquisite detail. Lovingly considered from
conception to the inal embellishments, Hibit excels in two tandem modes of painting: one lat,
representational and intimately scaled, the other abstract and constructed to bulge of the wall.
The vibrant, buoyant charm of Eric Hibit’s work is impressively broad in scope. He identiies with
the depictions of pleasure, abundance and harmony found in Eastern painting and functional
crafts. Japanese painting, Persian miniatures and Indian painting have inspired his content and
form. Textiles such as tapestry and needlepoint have inluenced his repeated gesture, evidenced
in the application of innumerable hand-painted dots.
Eric Hibit received his MFA from Yale University School of Art and BFA from the Corcoran
College of Art + Design. A solo exhibition of paintings titled R*O*Y*G*B*I*V* was hosted by the
University of Vermont in Burlington in the fall of 2016. In New York, his work has been included
in group exhibitions at Max Protetch, Anna Kustera, C24, Zurcher Gallery and Field Projects.
Outside of New York, his work has been shown in Miami, Washington, DC, Las Vegas, Giverny
and Paris (France). His work has been reviewed in Hyperallergic, The Village Voice, and The
Washington Post. Hibit has taught studio art at Tyler School of Art, Hunter College, NYU, and
Cooper Union. In 2014, he joined the artist-run curatorial collective Ortega y Gasset Projects.
