Village Pipol is now on it’s 10th Anniversary! 

Village Pipol is now one of the Longest Running FREE Travel, Lifestyle and 

Entertainment Multi-Media Publication in the Philippines! Going from start-up to scaleup 

calls for celebration. It also calls for forward thinking because, without question, our 

greatest accomplishments still lie ahead of us. 

This journey began with a few guys trying to find a venue where my previous company 

would advertise. A quality area focused publication that will serve as our advertising 

platform. As a company knew only two things: we wanted to be a innovative company 

and we wanted to be disruptive. There had been no innovation in publication industry at 

that time for a long time. We did our research and grew passionate. We published our 1st 

issue October 2007 the 1st FREE Glossy Print and Online Publication in the Philippines. 

Now my former company had a free venue to advertise their services! Why Free, well 

unfortunately I was the recommending approval for all advertising that I could not 

imagine signing the purchase order… Well! 

But it became a platform for numerous companies who have entrusted Village Pipol in its 

now long history of providing an advertising venue to grow their company. 

Village Pipol was awarded by the prestigious APEA Awards (Asia Pacific Awards of 

Excellence) as the Most Innovative Online Publication of 2008. Most recently we came 

up with another breakthrough thru the introduction of #VPlug which became the 1st to 

combine VideoBlog, Social Media, Print, Online and Social Influencers/Ambassador in 

what is being hailed as the #FutureOfAdvertising! 

Many thanks to the incredible team at Village Pipol, and our advertising partners that’s 

been so supportive from the start. I am so proud to be part of this team and our partners, 

and I am so pumped to see what is in store for us on the other side of this great decade. 

Our commitment of providing innovative Advertising Solutions is the main reason 

why Village Pipol has survived the test of time and the changing environment in the

owadays, we travel because we want to explore and discover new things. 

NWhether it be learning a new language or learning about a country’s history, 

travelling allows us to learn so many different things. We learn so much from the 

different cultures around the world. Not only do we become open-minded but 

we also become aware how our lives are all intertwined and how we affect each 

other’s lives. Travelling isn’t only for fun but it’s also a learning process. 

Majority of the restaurants that I visited have pastel-colored themes and a ton of 

wall art with chill music vibes. Some of the places have an outdoor pool which 

makes the place have a very Bali vibe. All the dishes that they serve are seriously 

so delicious. Some are a bit on the pricey side but some are relatively cheap but 

I can assure you that your taste buds will surely be happy!

Where Is It, You Ask? It’s At 13 Ubay St.

ou’ll know you’ve reached that ideal food haven 

Ywhen the moment the door opens and you set 

foot into the restaurant, it makes you feel instantly 

at home. Well, as boastful as it may sound, we’ve 

been lucky enough to have found the perfect 

place. 

Happily serving comfort food dishes since 

November of 2015, 13 Ubay St. Comfort Dining 

will make you want to invite your family or barkada 

to a lunch out or dinner get-together. Just think of 

bacon, beef pares, chicken inasal, and ube halaya. 

Surely, you can make time to eat all these, right? 

13 Ubay St., named after the street where it is 

located, is in the Banawe area, which is being 

dubbed as Quezon City’s Chinatown, but it isn’t a 

Chinese dining place. It is a family-owned Filipino 

restaurant that offers huge servings of dishes 

that your mom would normally cook at home. It 

also has that unpretentious interior adorned by a 

collection of masks and paintings that you’d surely 

love. 

Like other restaurants that offer comfort dining, 

it got the typical comfort food menu, but what 

sets it apart is its affordability and quality that will 

fully satisfy you without breaking the bank since 

servings are usually good for two to three people. 

Rest assured that the food is also made from 

scratch, so quality is at its best here. And, if you 

love bacon a lot, we promise you, this place isn’t 

one to disappoint. 

Of course, we wouldn’t be dining at this cool and 

hip food haven now, which we want you to take 

note has its own parking area, if not for Chef 

Zaza Sarmiento and her partners, who despite 

their struggles, including the changing of menu, 

knowing what people want, and actually getting 

the people in, managed to keep the restaurant 

going. 

With experiences as a chef in Singapore and the 

Caribbean, Chef Sarmiento, who is currently 

taking a Master in Entrepreneurship at the Asian 

Institute of Management, invites everyone to 

check out this new cool place just a street off 

Banawe. We, of course, would love to invite you,

City for that comfort food that will definitely fix

Filipino-Chinese actor who first came to our attention when he 

starred at the successful yet challenging lead role at GMA-7’s 

teleserye Destiny Rose in 2015. He’s not just an actor with a goodlooking 

face and boy next door aura but also has the heart to 

homeless kids.

How did you atart your showbiz career? 

I started as commercial model for TV. Then, I 

became one of the talents of Kuya Germs in 

Walang Tulugan. 

What was your very remarkable role as an 

actor? 

I played as a transgender woman in GMA’s 

afternoon drama Destiny Rose. The show was 

my very first lead role and gave me an award 

and nominations for drama acting. 

How did your celebrity status affect your 

current lifestyle? 

One of the things that I’ve wanted to is keep 

my lifestyle simple, so nothing much has 

changed. However, nowadays because of the 

demand of work, I don’t have that much time 

to spend with family and friends. 

How do you compare travelling before being 

in the showbiz scene to now? 

Now when I travel, I have to plan it very well 

because I have to consider my work scheds, 

etc. 

What’s your worst travelling experience? 

Were you able to enjoy it after that 

experience or it really ruined the entire trip? 

I actually don’t have one because I always 

enjoy my travels. 

What are the things you look first for when 

travelling? Is it food stops, museums, party 

place, etc? 

I always look forward to seeing the church. I 

love old places and I just love churches. 

Share us your most fun travelling 

experience? 

My most fun experience I had was when I 

travelled to Australia. It was my first out-ofthe 

country trip so it’s memorable for me. 

I get to experience their culture, food and 

tourist attractions. 

Would you rather travel with a large group, 

with special someone, or alone? 

It was always fun to travel with a large 

group. I love that we get to share the same 

experiences during a trip. 

If you got a free trip to somewhere, 

everything covered for a week, where would 

that be? Why? 

I want to go to New York. My brother went 

there for his schooling and I am just soo 

intrigued by that old city. 

Who do you want to be with in that dream 

travel? 

My grandmother, I want her to travel more 

and what better to spend some time with her 

than an adventure in New York. 

Other things you want to promote? 

I have an upcoming movie with Barbie 

Forteza and my close friend Kim Rodriguez 

entitled: This Time I’ll Be Sweeter. Please 

watch out for that.

The iPhone X: Apple’s 10th 

Anniversary Gimmick or 

Legitimate Flagship? 

We have gotten used to Apple’s annual announcements of their newest iPhones. 

However, this year’s announcement is different. Text by Edge Buenviaje 

side from the expected iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, 

AApple launched the iPhone X. The X there being 

10 which commemorates iPhone’s 10th anniversary. 

So what’s new? Well, there are a lot of innovative 

features with the iPhone X. Even if some are preexisting 

tech from Android, for an iPhone some of the 

features are firsts. 

The first and most glaring change here is the iPhone 

X’s display. As the trend of bezel-less displays gets 

more prevalent each day, Apple grasped it and did 

their own take of it. Although the iPhone X is not 

bezel-less, the screen ratio is stunning. It covers the 

whole front of the phone with a 5.8 inch Super Retina 

Display. It has a small hatch up top that houses a lot 

of sensors and the front facing camera. 

With this, you just have to hold up the phone in front 

of your face to unlock your device. Wicked! 

The iPhone X is also housing Apple’s A11 chip which 

has the Bionic neural engine. This is supposed to help 

device adapt with you as you use it over time. It is 

supposed to be learning your habits to help make the 

user experience seamless. They called this mechanical 

learning. This also aims to make Face ID work faster 

over time. 

The dual camera setup is still around with two 12 MP 

sensors with one of them having a telephoto lens for 

brighter shots. Both sensors also have Optical Image 

Stabilization that is great for video recording. The 

selfie camera is a 7 MP sensor with portrait mode that 

can help blur out the background if need be.

Another thing to take note of is the lack of a home 

button. The iPhone 7 eliminated the headphone 

jack and now the X is eliminating the home button 

altogether. This is to make way for the end to end 

near bezel-less display. Navigation will now be more 

gesture based. 

In addition to this, Touch ID is also now gone which is 

a bummer in my opinion. However, it is now replaced 

with an interesting face scanning security feature 

called Face ID. 

Apple is also adding the Qi Wireless Charging 

capability to the iPhone X wherein you just have to 

place it on a charging bay and it will be charging 

immediately. It also boasts a battery that is promised 

to have 2 hours more of power than the iPhone 7. 

Lastly, it will also sport the LTE Advanced or 5G 

connectivity which makes the iPhone X one of the 

first smartphones to support it. 

So is the Apple iPhone X worth the hype? For me, it is. 

However, with a steep price point of USD 999 for the 

64 GB variant, I might think twice before buying it.

OPPO has announced that the OPPO F5, their 

newest smartphone will launch in the Philippines on 

October 26.

This Halloween! 

One of the best Netflix series of 2016 is making a 

return this Halloween. Text by Edge Buenviaje 

tranger Things will bring back the gang of Mike, 

SDustin, Lucas, and Will for a new season slated on 

October 31, 2017. 

Stranger Things is a Sci-Fi, Horror, Supernatural, 

Periodic drama set in the 80s. The show focuses on 

4 friends and their families as they try to move on 

from the supernatural events that happened from the 

show’s previous season. 

Last season’s main character Eleven is currently MIA 

in the story after the events that transpired from last 

season’s finale. Her return is not yet imminent but 

we as fans are hopeful that we can see her in action 

again. 

Stranger Things is a great show that tackled a 

nostalgic run of the 80’s culture. The setting, tech and 

even fashion of the 80’s era are well interpreted. You 

can definitely feel nostalgia in your coursing through 

your veins just by looking at it. 

The presence of a dark alternate dimension called 

the Upside Down also infuse fear and suspense 

all throughout the first season because it houses 

a monster that abducts and kills people. We are 

expecting it to have a major role as well this season.

10. 29 Days Later 

A scientific horror flick, revolving around an incurable 

and equally powerful virus, unleashed by a group 

of animal activists despite the pleas of the scientist 

in charge at a research hub in Britain – and the 

results are deadly as the virus spreads. The movie 

begins 28 days later with only a handful of survivors, 

endeavoring to enter the mainstream life, but 

everything is not that easy as is thought to be. A war 

needs to be raged against a host of homicidal maniacs 

for humanity to survive! 

9. Alien 

A futuristic movie that perfectly blends science fiction 

with horror. The story revolves around the crew of a 

ship who lands on a planet in the future, while on a 

rescue mission. They come across an abandoned ship 

with nobody on board. While continuing their search 

for survivors within the abandoned ship, the crew 

happens to come across some kind of alien form that 

they have not encountered earlier. And…they must 

escape from the place before these aliens hatch and 

prowl on them! 

8. It 

Brilliant movie. This movie will make you laugh, cry, 

and scream in a span of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The 

members of the Losers’ Club are great and you’ll 

immediately care for each and every one of them, 

Pennywise is incredibly terrifying, the music is a great 

combination of scary and beautiful, and the best of 

all is that you actually feel like you want the main 

characters to win. Overall, one of the best, if not the 

best horror movie ever made 

7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 

A perfect horror movie. it’s so realistic and shocking. 

the story feels real and the acting is really great. what 

I also love about this movie is that there is some truth 

to it. there are people like Leatherface and his family 

out in the world, and that we could end up in this 

situation. and it could be the scariest experience of 

your entire life.M+7 

6. Saw 

Saw is not necessarily the scariest movie, but it is a 

GREAT movie if you want to see some gore. The story 

is also very good for it being 7 movies long. The end 

was such a twist, I loved it. The reverse bear trap was 

the BEST, its too bad we don’t see it actually work 

until the second time. This movie deserves to be on 

the top ten. 

5. Scream 

This movie totally gave the slasher genre (and really 

all horror) new life and started a new trend of smart 

suspense-driven horror movies. The entire franchise 

is classic! 

4. Silence of the Lambs 

It won the Oscars for Best Film, no other horror has 

done that, therefore this is the best. Scary for all the 

right reasons and a story that has quality, who could 

ask for more. 

3. Psycho 

Some say the Greatest Horror Movie Of All Time! How 

Could You Question Its Greatness? This Is Greatest 

Horror Movies Right? “We All Go A Little Mad 

Sometimes”... 

2. Nightmare on Elm Street 

This film was actually based off of a true story! I’m not 

even kidding. And before you all ask, no, there was no 

real Freddy Krueger who killed kids and came back 

from the dead as a ghost. Director Wes craven stated 

that he based this film on events reported of people 

dying in their sleep. This disease is known as sudden 

unexplained nocturnal death syndrome (SUNDS). 

1. Exorcist 

The Exorcist remains in a league all by itself, without 

doubt the most profoundly disturbing film ever made. 

For those of us that believe in God (90+% of the 

American people), the reality of spiritual good & evil 

is a given. The production values were very high 

and have held up well. Acting, writing, directing, 

cinematography & soundtrack are all stellar. It’s a story 

well told. It’s certainly a different animal than all the 

blood & guts slasher films. While the vast majority of 

“horror” films merely shock & repulse (nothing wrong 

with that if you enjoy them), The Exorcist tends to 

deeply disturb and truly frighten the psyche.

n the spirit of everything Star Wars, I will be 

Idoing a series of high-end toycollectible reviews. 

And I feel like sharing with you my one-sixth scale 

Stormtrooper from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. 

I usually do video reviews and upload them on my 

YouTube channel, so since this is my first written 

review, well just go through some review points.

Muhammad Ali in a poll conducted by ABC Sports for 

the sports fans. 

8. NADIA COMANECI 

Former Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci is widely 

regarded as the most perfect gymnast of all time. She 

won 3 gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 1 Bronze medal 

in 1976 Montréal Olympic. Nadia again achieved 2 

gold medals and 2 silver medals in 1980 Moscow 

Olympic. 

9. USAIN BOLT 

Legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is widely 

regarded as the fastest man in history. He was 

nicknamed “Lightning Bolt” for his amazing sprint of

Berlin 2009. He won 3 gold medals in 2008 Beijing

and limited neck movement – no wonder they cant 

shoot their targets! 

PAINT 

The paint application is white and clean. This is 

where the Stormie shines, like literally. He (or she) 

stands out from the rest of the Clone Troopers I 

have. 

For this collectible, well be checking out the 

over-all quality of the build, articulation, paint, 

and value for your money. However, Im placing a 

point system wherein 1 is the lowest, and 10 is the 

highest rating – just to give you a sense of grade 

and/or value. 

THE IMPERIAL BUILD 

The type of quality I always expect from Hot Toys 

is always superb. They have been one of the top 

toy builders in this scale. The accuracy of the 

Stormtroopers helmet is spot on, and captures the 

likeness of a true Imperial soldier. 

ARTICULATION: FROM HERO TO ZERO 

Posing options for the Stormie is quite limited. 

Especially, the torso and waist area, you cannot 

twist or bend its body. Zero opportunities to place 

him in an action or crouching pose. With these 

A MUST-HAVE 

Now, is the Stormtrooper worth buying? If youve 

been a Hot Toys collector and youve purchased 

the A New Hope version, then you wouldnt give 

this a second look. But if youre a Star Wars 

freakazoid like myself, then this is a must-have for 

you. 

The standard price would be around USD 170-180, 

but the Stormie stocks have been known to wither 

pretty quickly, so you might end up paying USD 

240-280. 

THE VERDICT!
