Better Together The Arc of Ohio and ECRN+ are partnering to create a network designed to support, educate and empower families, individuals, and friends within Ohio's disability community. The hope is for FAQ Conversations to be a forum to ask questions, share experiences, connect with others and receive the latest information on our ever-changing disability systems and supports in Ohio. FAQ Conversations will be facilitated by Steve Beha ll, Associate Director of the Arc of Ohio and Amanda Biel, Family Support Specialist with ECRN+ (YMCA of Central Ohio). The conversation will be tailored to cover a broad spectrum of special needs information that includes ages birth to adult. We encourage all families, whether you're new to the disability world or a veteran, to join us in conversation. Join them <strong>October</strong> 12 from 6 to 8 pm at Columbus Speech and Hearing Center, 510 N. Broadway. REG- ISTER DIRECTLY ON EVENTBRITE: https://faqoctober.eventbrite.com/ Running TOWARD a Goal A few of our staff members participated in the <strong>2017</strong> Blue Ribbon Run 5K on September 23rd. Four staff members (David Baum, Amber Dille, Teresa Scarpitti, and April Wagner) put on their running shoes in support of protecting the children and elderly through Fairfield County Job and Family Services . Reminder: Fairfield County Job and Family Services will ask voters to pass a 1 mill renewal plus 1 mill additional levy for 10 years to provide protective services for children and elderly. Voting Day is November 6.
Fairfield DD’s Brain Plummer did not, for the record, cry over spilled milk while volunteering at Tarhe Trails Elementary School during United Way’s Community Care Day. Brian and over 40 other Fairfield DD employees pitched in to help throughout the county. While Brian was on lunch room patrol, other volunteers were picking up litter and painting garage doors for the Lancaster Recreation and Parks Department. See Brian, you really didn’t have it so bad. Thanks to everyone who lent a hand and to all who have donated to this year’s campaign. It’s National Apple Month! OSU reports eating one apple a day for four weeks lowered blood levels of oxidized LDL, the “bad cholesterol,” by 40%. Here are a few unique ways to get your apple fix: APPLE SALSA Combine: 2 cups apples, halved, cored, and chopped 3/4 cup (1 large) Anaheim chili pepper, seeded and chopped 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup lime juice Salt and pepper to taste APPLE S’MORES Replace the graham cracker in your s’mores with sliced pink lady apples. GRILLED APPLES Slice apples thickly and toss with a little lemon juice. Place the apple slices on the grate, turning them every couple of minutes, until marked and tender, about 3-5 minutes. Serve alone or with drizzled honey or maple syrup. Monica Cooperrider of Fairfield DD’s Resource Management team went head to head with the game Aggravation during the all-staff training day in Pickerington last month. While she didn’t get the win, she did walk away with a sweet candy prize. Congratulations to the Quality Assurance Team on a fun and informative day of learning.!
