Brgy. Tampayan Receives
Evacuation Center from Kalahi CIDSS
New Evacuation Center of Brgy. Tampayan
Magdiwang, Romblon—-The people of Barangay Tampayan rejoices
as they received a new evacuation center for their barangay
on the morning of June 7, 2017. The turn over
ceremony was attended by the people and Kalahi CIDSS
volunteers of Tampayan, Community Volunteers from the adjacent
barangay of Agutay, the Local Government Council of Magdiwang
headed by Mayor Denisa Repizo, the barangay
officials of Tampayan with all the chairpersons of all the
barangays in Magdiwang, and staff from the Kalahi CIDSS
Area Coordinating Team (ACT) , Sub-Regional Program
Management Office (SRPMO), and Regional Program Management
Office (RPMO).
The half-day event filled the volunteers with joy as the
ceremony signified the complete ownership of the
community to the evacuation center they built. The simple gathering
filled the people with hope and fulfillment as they listen to
the inspirational messages from notable persons such as the
Brgy. Chairperson of Tampayan, Area Coordinator Fatimah Denoso,
Sub-Regional Program Coordinator Michael Ace Dimapilis,
Mayor Denisa Repizo, Vice Mayor Guillermo Rocha, Community
Development Officer III Joemer Samong, and Deputy Regional
Program Manager Maria Liza Peraren.
One of the highlights of the event was the testimony of the two
Community Volunteers on their experience in serving their community
through Kalahi CIDSS. Project Implementation Team (PIT)
head Mr. Raymundo Delos Reyes and
Warehouse Keeper Bernadeth Tangco shared their
memorable experiences as volunteers of Kalahi CIDSS.
“Nung nag simula na yung project, ako yung tinatawag nilang
segunda engineer. Kung titingnan mo, hindi naman
paniniwalaan na engineer yan. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, sa ngayon
iisipin ko muna yung komunidad hindi lang pansarili. At kung
kakailanganin ulit ako ng aking barangay ay willing ako na mag
volunteer ulit. ” said Mr. Delos Reyes. Miss Tangco said, “unang
beses kong nakapag trabaho buong buhay ko at masaya ako na
kumita ng sarili kong
sahod bilang warehouse
keeper.”
To cement the
complete ownership
of the community to
the project, the
ceremonial
turnover of the
unused materials
and the Certificate
of Acceptance, were
given to the
DRPM Peraren handed the symbolic Key to the
barangay officials and community volunteers of
Brgy. Tampayan
community volunteers and the BLGU. In addition, the volunteers
are also honored by the MLGU by awarding them individual
certificates of appreciation. The ceremony was spearheaded
and organized by the community volunteers of Tampayan
with the guidance of the ACT of Magdiwang. The evacuation
center cum multi-purpose building was one of the prioritized
projects in the cycle 1 of Kalahi CIDSS NCDDP in the Municipality
of Magdiwang. ###

The Community Volunteers Coordinators of MIMAROPA held
their very first meeting last May 16-20, 2017 to discuss successful
approaches and key challenges in the facilitation and application
of participatory processes and recommend useful steps and
strategies to sustain and mainstream CDD programs at the municipal
level through the efforts of the community volunteers.
They also discussed in the meeting the upcoming Community
Volunteers’ Congress. ###
