Page 18 <strong>October</strong> Edition Seven Lakes News Christmas for Moore in Need of Sponsors to Serve an Additional 100 Families Christmas for Moore, a local nonprofit, served more than 300 families in 2016 with basic needs and gifts for area children with a goal of not leaving any empty stockings for those who registered last year. Everyone was served who applied. Four events held last month throughout the county have demonstrated an even greater need for 2017, with an additional 100 families, or 350 individuals, including children and adults are still in need of adoption. Working with these local families and recognizing the needs exceed available sponsorships, Christmas for Moore’s dedicated volunteers are seeking local businesses, churches and individuals to help ensure these families too, fi nd joy in the upcoming season of giving. Christmas for Moore has had very generous sponsors in the past, and we need their continued support, said Eleanora Voelkel, one of the group’s volunteers and steering committee members. However, this year, “we need new sponsors to come forward and offer a helping hand, she added. Each family who registered was told that we will do our best to sponsor them, and, in the past, we have always found a sponsor for each family. We pray this year will be the same and that no family will need to be turned away.” Sponsors are matched with an individual or family and choose how to support the needs. A Food Lion Gift card based on the size of the family is given to provide a Christmas meal. If so, you’ll need to plan ahead – because a successful early retirement can’t be achieved through last-minute moves. So, if you’re determined to retire early, consider taking the following steps: Pick a date. Early retirement means different things to different people. But it’s important to pick an exact age, whether it is 60, 62, 64, or whatever, so you can build an appropriate retirement income strategy. Think about your retirement lifestyle. You may know that you want to retire early – but have you thought about what you want to do with your newfound time? Different retirement lifestyles can have vastly different price tags. Once you’ve envisioned your future, you can develop a saving and investment plan to help you get there. Boost contributions to your retirement plans. If you want to retire early, you may well need to accelerate your contributions to your retirement accounts, such as your IRA and your 401(k) or other employer-sponsored Invest for growth. Your investment strategy essentially should be based on three key factors: your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. When you change any one of these variables, it will affect the others. So, if you shorten your time horizon by retiring early, you may well need to reconsider your risk tolerance. Keep a lid on your debt load. Even if you take all the steps described above, you may still fall short of your goal of retiring early. Plus, if you’re still working, you may be able to afford delaying your Social Security payments until you’re closer to your “normal” retirement age, which, as defi ned by the Social Security Administration, likely will be 66 or 67. The longer you put off taking these benefi ts, the bigger your monthly checks, although they will max out once you reach 70. And even if you are not able to retire early, some of the moves you took to reach that goal – may pay off for you during your retirement – whenever it begins. After moving to the Sandhills in 2006, with some “gentle prodding” by Joanne, we went to a local art & craft store purchasing some sketch pads & colored pencils. With continued encouragement from Joanne, my family and friends, my artwork advanced to watercolor painting, several of which were on display at a local art gallery, while other pieces found their way to friends and family.
