Shaking up the city
Budapest Ritmo festival brings the stars of world music
Who said festival season should end with summer? Meet world music artists from more than 20 countries and enjoy
live gigs, and unique productions between Hungarian and foreign artists at Akvárium Klub. The organizer of the
festival is Hungarian music label Hangvető, which promotes local and international world music artists, and the
Café Budapest Festival. This year’s performers include - amongst others - Czech band Ponk, the local group Söndörgő
performing together with the Amsterdam Klezmer Band, and French pianist and composer Christophe Chassol on the 6th.
Spanish Pere Martínez plays flamenco with a twist, while Jawhar’s and Mitsou’s performance mixes Arabic ballads and
gipsy folk songs on the 7th. On the last day of the festival, visitors can see Serbian Boris Kovač, Hungarian Mónika Lakatos
& Mihály Rostás perform, while the Malabi Tropical brings their signature tropical Caribbean and Middle Eastern tunes.

Where to.. Drink
Here is our mini-guide to the best pubs in town. For a more casual night spent drinking
and chatting with friends, head towards Király street or Kazinczy street in the Jewish
quarter. They are home to traditional ruin pubs, and a number of cozy, trendy or
hidden-away spots, including one of the earliest ruin pubs, Szimpla. Nearby are also the
local’s favorite Bobek, old school night bar Mika Tivadar, and the many wine bars and
eateries in Gozsdu Courtyard (pictured).
