It is my great pleasure to host you at
the 14th EPSA Autumn Assembly Educational
Programme. The EPSA Team, especially EPSA’s
Educational Department, and the 14th EPSA
Autumn Assembly Reception Committee have
been working tirelessly in the past months
to present and offer a number of different
activities to you. The topic of this event is “digital
revolution in healthcare” and it will be presented
to you through the symposia and workshops.
The flagship feature of every EPSA event is
the two-day symposium, organised during the
first days. You will be able to gain knowledge on
the latest developments in the pharmacy world
through the speeches held by professionals
working in the field. As EPSA strives to offer
as many educational opportunities to our
members as possible, we invite you to prepare
and ask as many questions as possible during
the unique opportunity to interact with the
aforementioned professionals, during the panel
discussion at the end of each symposia day.
In addition to the symposia, we offer you
a wide variety of workshops through which
you will gain additional knowledge related to
the topic of the event, learn more about EPSA’s
activities and the opportunities for students to
get involved with them or simply have fun. We
also invite you to attend the Science Excursion
to Zentiva’sproduction of solid dosage forms,
the Public Health Campaign on colon cancer,
the Teddy Bear Hospital or the sports session.
Checking the Educational Programme
will also alert you of the many different EPSA
Trainings we are organising for you. EPSA
trainings are soft skill trainings delivered by
qualified EPSA Trainers. Do not hesitate to
register for them as they will improve your
standing in the professional world. The EPSA
Trainers will also host the returning wrap-up
session, where you will be able to revisit the
knowledge and experiences that you have
gained throughout the week and interact with
other participants.
This is just a brief overview of the many
activities that you will be able to experience
during this amazing event. I invite you to
carefully read this Educational Booklet, as it
contains the abstracts for all of the sessions.
It also contains photographs of the people
responsible for respective activities to help you
spot them during the event. Do not forget to
register for the sessions of your choice through
the online Educational Programme registrations,
as some activities offer a limited amount of
places. Keep in mind that you need to attend a
certain amount of activities to be granted the
certificate at the end of the event. The Science
Excursion and one of the EPSA Trainings on
Saturday, are activities that will last over two
consecutive sessions, so keep that in mind when
choosing the sessions to register for.
We hope you leave the event with a lot of
new knowledge, and the desire to learn even
more and get involved in EPSA closely. See you
soon in Brno and
all around Europe!
Yours in EPSA,
Dear participant,
Have you ever thought of how rapidly
modern technology has become widespread in
our lives? Could you imagine your life out of the
digital era ? Could you as a pharmacist, or better
said, a future pharmacist, imagine the everyday
work without digitalisation?
Digital revolution is striking every single
part of the job market; yet, health care and
pharmacy are not an exception. We are glad
that you will join us on such a comprehensive
educational programme we have been preparing
for you, where all sessions have one thing in
common – the message that digital revolution is
all around us and it affects our lives immensely.
We believe that in our profession it is necessary
to stay up-to-date and use these modern
technologies to improve our patients’ lives, as
well as our lives, in the best way we can.
During the educational programme, you
will have many opportunities to broaden your
horizons, starting with a symposium where you
will be able to listen to professionals and ask your
questions in panel discussions. Afterwards, there
will be workshops aimed at providing you with
further knowledge in specific areas, finishing
with trainings that will aim at your soft-skills
development. Speaking as RC members and also
as an EPSA trainer (Štefan), we are happy to see
the training project growing, to provide more
opportunities for trainers to deliver trainings,
as well as for you as participants to attend the
trainings.
When I think of my first
EPSA event, which was in Budapest,
2014; I remember I was really amazed and
overwhelmed by the educational programme and the
new opportunities and ideas that have emerged in my
mind. Since then, I am looking forward to every EPSA
event. Meeting my friends and having fun, are definitely
some of the motivators, but the strongest one is still that
nice feeling that I have made some progress, and that
I have moved forward. I wish you all to have such
Educational Officer
a feeling after the EPSA Autumn Assembly in
Brno!
I totally agree
with Štefan! EPSA has not
only made it possible for me to meet a lot of
wonderful people and gain valuable experience, but
it also made me aware of future career possibilities in the
pharmaceutical job market by building my own personality
during my studies. Now, I hope that with this experience you
will also get to learn something new. But, on the other hand,
I hope that you will also get inspired and maybe one day
you will be the one delivering a lecture in front of the
audience; the one who will talk about their own
new useful mobile application or your new
Educational Officer
discovery, and inspire others.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Please read this information carefully as you will need it during the whole congress. It will
make our work much easier.
In this chapter, you will find descriptions of the different sessions and programme.
ATTENDANCE SYSTEM AND CERTIFICATES
This year we will be using a sessions
check-in system powered by Eventbrite. By
using the Eventbrite app (available for iOS and
Android devices), you will be able to carry all
your session e-tickets on your smartphone or
tablet. In order to enter each session you will be
asked by the check-in team to present a suitable
e-ticket, which will be scanned from your screen.
Checking-in has never been easier!
Please make sure to download the app
on your phone or tablet before arriving in
order to be able to store all of your sessions
there and have your attendance marked.
Why should I collect these validations?
Without the collected validations, you will
not be able to attend the social programme in
the evening. But more importantly, you will not
be entitled to receive the educational certificate
after the congress.
Attendance will be checked at the
hotel before the departure for the social
How many of those do I need?
To take part in the evening programme,
you will need to attend 75% of the educational
programme of that day. Symposia are
compulsory! Therefore, on the first two days,
you will need to collect the stamps from the 2
sessions of symposium in the morning, plus an
additional one from the afternoon sessions.
On Friday sightseeing is scheduled, instead
In case you are unable to do it, we kindly ask
that you print the PDFs you will receive on your
e-mail with the respective tickets, and present
them to the helping team members.
Furthermore, please remember that you
will NOT receive the validation if you enter the
session later than 10 minutes after the start.
Therefore, we kindly ask you for punctuality!
GET THE APP
programme of each night, and you will be given
a wristband which will allow you to access the
party. In addition to this, at the end of the event,
during check-out, attendance will be checked
again and the participants who attended at least
80% of the sessions will receive the educational
certificate.
of the afternoon sessions. Sightseeing is not a
part of the educational programme; therefore,
you will need to attend both morning sessions.
On Saturday the last sessions are left vacant
in order for you to get ready for the Gala Dinner.
On account of this, you are asked to attend all
three sessions of that day.
3
To sum up, the attendance requirements
needed to attend the evening programme are:
Wednesday, Thursday:
2 x symposium + 1 x afternoon session
Friday: 2 x morning session
Saturday: 3 x any session
To receive the certificate, you will need to
attend 80% of sessions, therefore 9 sessions,
symposia included. Certificates will be issued by
the Reception Committee and sent to you via
e-mail.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME: BASICS
WORKSHOPS
During the congress, a variety of parallel sessions,
each tackling a different topic, are held for students
to choose from. Workshops, which are held
during the parallel sessions, expand on the topics
introduced during the Symposium, as well as other
topics personalised for participants with different
interests and backgrounds. Workshops are interactive sessions in which students work towards
pre-defined outcomes together or with professionals, to find new ideas and solutions.
SYMPOSIUM
The symposium is a plenary session consisting of
30-minute talks delivered by key experts in the
area and a panel discussion in which students
are encouraged to ask questions and engage in
discussion.
In your bag, you can find red and green emotion
cards. Take them with you to the symposium,
use them to interact with the speakers, and let your opinion be heard.
The two half-day symposia at the 14th EPSA Autumn Assembly will be exploring the topic
“Digital Revolution in Healthcare”.
The first day will focus on how using technology in healthcare affects society, with examples
put in practice, while the second day will focus on thinking outside of the box and the new
roles for pharmacists.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The General Assembly (GA) is EPSA’s highest
decision body and it is consists of 45 member
associations, representing 37 countries.
Each EPSA member association chooses
Official Delegates (ODs), who represent their
organisation at the GA.
All congress participants are encouraged
to attend the GA to hear about the newest
advancements in EPSA, and to participate in debates on the pharmaceutical students’ future.
Remember that everyone has a right to speak during the GA. You will learn more about EPSA,
its regulations and the people who work to make all of it happen.
You can also actively participate in GA as scrutineers, meeting secretaries and photographers.
In order to learn more about it please contact our Secretary General, secgen@epsa-online.org.
management skills).
TRAININGS
EPSA Trainings are participant-focused
interactive sessions, facilitated by EPSA
Trainers. The trainer plans the framework for
the session, which is then shaped by the inputs
of the participants. Trainings are focused
on soft skills, i.e. personal competencies
that can be developed
and strengthened (e.g.
communication or stress
EPSA Trainings are a product of the EPSA Training Project, aimed at
increasing awareness of soft skills and their importance. Soft skills are still
being slowly developed in university curricula, but they are essential to
seize the opportunities of modern professional and personal life.
For more information about trainings and the Training Project, please
contact the Training Coordinator at training@epsa-online.org.
SCIENCE EXCURSION
The Science Excursion is a regular part of major EPSA events,
meaning the Annual Congress, the Annual Reception,
the Autumn Assembly and the Summer University.
Through this activity, participants are able to learn more
about the pharmacy field through an interactive visit to a
pharmaceutical company.
This time the Science Excursion will lead us to Prague, to Zentiva, where you will get a chance
to observe the production of solid dosage forms.
PUBLIC HEALTH CAMPAIGN
Public Health Campaigns aim to empower
the general public and pharmacy students
with correct information about different
health issues. Moreover, through this kind of
activities, EPSA wishes to engage its members
in learning how
to interact with
patients, how to
share their scientific knowledge about health and how we can all
improve the health problems our society is being confronted with.
The topic for this year is Colon Cancer; a silent disease that affects
many people worldwide. In this campaign, the aims are to focus on
the prevention and being aware of the first signs that may lead us
to seek professional advice.
For the public health campaign, bring your lab coat since it will help to create an impact on the
general public regarding our role as pharmacists!
TEDDY BEAR HOSPITAL
Teddy Bear Hospital is an initiative to help kids
reduce their fears regarding the contact with
health professionals. To show them that the
pharmacists and doctors are not something they
should be afraid of; bring your lab coat and help
us in this initiative on fixing kids teddy bears’
problems. The kids will be super happy and we
will be as well!
MEET ME FAIR
The EPSA Meet Me fair (MMF) takes place during
the EPSA congresses and it is an open session,
where different students’ associations can present
themselves to the other participants and share their
experiences. Therefore, posters will be hung up on
the walls and a representative of the association will
generally be present, introducing the Association to
the interested people nearby. It is a big opportunity to take a glimpse on other countries’ NGO
work and to get inspired and urge interesting talks. This year MMF will also double as a Twinnet
Market where you can meet fellow Twinnet enthusiasts, and share contacts in order to organise
an exchange.
MOBILITY BOOTH
This awesome new feature of the EPSA Congress provides you with the opportunity to find out
more about several mobility projects around Europe, and to also share your own experiences
with fellow congress attendees.
At the booth, you will find materials depicting EPSA’s projects such as; Twinnet and IMP,
European Solidarity Corps, Erasmus+ and more. Additionally, you can leave your mark at the
big flip chart, telling your story and inspiring others to take a step out of their comfort zone and
experience mobility around Europe!
ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION TO THE SESSIONS
SPORTS SESSION
Physical exercise can be a very good friend of ours, if we do it correctly.
The effects of exercise on our bodies can be addressed through a
scientific approach, taking into consideration the advances brought
about by investigation. What are the mechanisms behind physical
exercise and how can we take advantage of it? The answer to these
questions and much more is about to be discussed on the “exercise is
medicine” session!
As mentioned before, you will be able to create
your own schedule. But how? Read through
this booklet and the abstracts, pick your sessions
and then register for each day. Remember that
sessions have a limited number of participants!
Keep an eye on the participants’ group to find
out more about the beginning of registrations!
During the congress, sheets with the
names of the registered participants will be
hung on the doors of the sessions, so you
can easily check yours. In case you have not
registered for a session or you have changed
your mind at the last-minute, you can check-in
for another session in the last 5-minutes before
sessions are about to begin.
Before that, only the participants with a
valid ticket for that respective session will be
able to check in!
INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROOMS
A golem is a clay creature that has been
magically brought to life. The same applies to
the room named Golem, where new insights
(symposium) and magical decision making will
be brought to life by the body of EPSA (GA).
Golem has the capacity of up to 300 people and
it is located at the hotel.
The rooms for the workshops are all located
at the faculty, with capacity for 50+ people. We
will not go into detail about the room’s names
though. You know why? Because we have
prepared a game for you! The names of the
rooms are as follows: Otto Wichterle, Antonín
Holý and Jaroslav Heyrovský. What is the game
about? Write to us, on a piece of paper, why
these people are important and what they have
done. This piece of paper is to be submitted
to the box situated at the reception desk.
your answers. Do not miss this opportunity,
otherwise RC will use the prize themselves.
Since trainings are an important part of life,
rooms for trainings are named after people that
have devoted their life to exactly that. The first
one is (of course) Jaromír Jágr, famous Czech
hockey player. Another one has a typical Czech
name - Petr Čech. He is a goalkeeper playing in
the Premier League - previously for Chelsea and
currently for Arsenal. The rooms’ capacity is for
20 people and they are located at the faculty
as well. Both Jágr and Čech wish you pleasant
João Gregorio, PharmD, MSc, PhD
Community pharmacist and Researcher at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
of the Nova University Lisbon
With the growing burden of chronic
diseases, health systems around the world are
looking for alternatives to optimise the provision
of care. New technologies promise to make
healthcare more efficient and provide greater
quality. In spite of these promises, evidence
WEDNESDAY
suggests that the growing digitalisation will
have an impact on the way care is provided.
In a world shaped by the digital
environment, it is clear that the Community
Pharmacists profession will be impacted in
its role. Technology already had an impact on
the more traditional dispensing role. However,
what will happen to the advanced roles of
the pharmacist, namely the ones referring
to the provision of pharmaceutical care and
development of new pharmacy services, is still
an open research question.
This talk will explore these trends and
present the policy report on ePharmacy,
produced at the latest PCNE working
conference, as a starting point to the
discussion on the impact the digitalisation
on the pharmacist’s role in the health system.
Learning goals
Participants will:
• Understand that technology developments
will impact the way healthcare is provided,
thus affecting healthcare professional roles
Big data and artificial intelligence in healthcare
Matej Adam, MBA
IBM Watson Health Executive
Big data and artificial intelligence are
technologies being adopted across many
industries, with demonstrated potential
to change the day-to-day reality across
the board. In healthcare, there are several
domains where such technology has been
adopted already and many will follow. With
the explosion of information and digital data
about patients and their diseases, it is pivotal
for new and existing generations of medical
doctors to learn and utilise information
technology for the benefit of the care process.
IBM Watson artificial intelligence platform
will be used for illustrative representation of
functional AI in healthcare.
Learning goals
Participants will get an overview about the
concept of big data and artificial intelligence
in healthcare. Specific details will be provided,
illustrating the clinical value of deploying
João is a Community
Pharmacist specialist,
with a PhD in International
Health. His thesis focused
on the design, development
and implementation of an e-Health disease
management pharmaceutical service. His
current research interests lie in the digital
transformation of health services.
• Understand that technology and
digitalisation pose threats and provide an
opportunity to the future role of community
pharmacists;
Matej Adam is a health IT
professional with 15+ years
of experience in the field. He
led the design and development
of several national healthcare information
exchange projects and consulted to regional and
national governments on e-health and health
IT strategies to improve healthcare outcomes.
Matej led transformation projects of patient safety
and hospital process improvement through new
technology deployment. He defined IBM’s global
Evolution tends to put information nearer
the users under different methods, for safe
On the other axis, there are the differences
in semantics, which means that everyone needs
to “speak” the same language to allow electronic
things are done throughout Europe, this is the
session tailored just for you!
The main aim of the TWINNET Market is to
provide an opportunity to the ones who want
to organise one even if they have not found the
right partner to collaborate with yet. During
this session the attendees will have a chance
to get to know more about the organisation
of a TWINNET, to interact with other TWINNET
Coordinators, who are interested in organising a
TWINNET and they may additionally learn about
new countries and their pharmacy educational
systems.
To make it more interactive, we are also
preparing a fun quiz for you, which will allow
you to get an even deeper insight into what your
peers are up to... There may even be a prize! ;)
Learning goals
• Get to know other associations’ practices;
• Share and gain knowledge about other
Dorothea Dalig
Vice President of European Affairs
Should pharmacists be allowed to deliver
vaccinations? Do we need more interprofessional
education? Soft skills, what to think of that? Those
and many more questions have been asked by
EPSA in the last couple of years. Some have been
answered in position papers, some are still in
discussion. But what happens with the position
papers once they are written and approved?
And how does advocacy work in general?
Those are the questions that we will ask in this
WS4: Science Workshop: PhD opportunities around Europe
Anja Šribar, Science Coordinator
The Science Workshop is a workshop
organised by the Science Coordinator at
major EPSA events. Workshops are about
general scientific topics; how to write an
abstract, what kind of skills do you need, etc.
Learning goals
To know what kind of opportunities pharmacy
students have after getting MPharm degree,
how to apply and what kind of fields of
pharmacy are offered internationally.
Learning goals
• Learn to identify the different sides of an
issue;
• Learn to find arguments for any of them
and present them in a convincing way;
• Learn about EPSA and its advocacy work.
Anja Šribar is a 5th year
student of pharmacy at
the Faculty of Pharmacy,
University of Ljubljana. She
is the current EPSA Science
Coordinator.
WS4 starts at 15:30!
This time the workshop will be about PhD
opportunities around Europe, options for
students, scholarships, applications and fields of
pharmacy.
The ability to communicate is the most
important and fascinating skill human beings
have developed. As future pharmacists, you will
need to communicate in every single field of
your intervention that, if well performed, can
lead you to the next level; a level of excellence.
No matter which path you choose,
communication will always be present and
needed.
Always remember: Communication is only
effective when the message you prepared is
properly heard and understood. Let’s work on it?
TR2: Networking
Rúben Viegas, EPSA Trainer
Maeva D’Almeida, EPSA Trainer Candidate
Tiago was born in Lisbon, he’s
24 years old and graduated
from Covilhã (Portugal). He
loves to write, walk in the
nature, listen to Latin music
and his motto is “to make this a
better world”. His passion for Soft-
Skills drove him to the dream of becoming an
EPSA Trainer, since he believes this can be his
greatest contribution to students’ development.
Regarding Soft-Skills, Tiago’s favourite topic is
Communication, as he sees this as one of the
cornerstones of success. However, he loves to
deliver many other topics and he considers all of
them a challenge and a great opportunity.
A very interesting point is that Tiago’s first EPSA
event was, in fact, in the Czech Republic – the
11th EPSA Autumn Assembly (Hradec Králové).
Furthermore, Brno is the city where Tiago
attended the Training New Trainers event, in
order to become an EPSA Trainer, so this is a very
special city to him and he can’t wait to deliver
there once again.
TR1: Communication
Sofija Gicheva and Tiago Gonçalves, EPSA Trainer Candidates
Communication is everywhere and it is
required in every single area of your life!
It is impossible to think about our existence
without making a clear relation with our
communication skills. If you stop to consider it,
you will realize we need these skills everyday
and everywhere. All your relationships depend
on this cornerstone and, as you know, the
success you obtain is also related with the
relationships you establish, so your success is
directly dependent on your communication
skills. Even intern dialogues depend on your
communication skills, which can impact the
decisions you make and the emotions you
express (and its’ consequences on others).
Sofija is a pharmacy student
from Macedonia, currently in her 4th year of
studies. She was first introduced to the world of
trainings and soft skills in the summer of 2016,
when she attended EPSA’s Summer University
in Bialystok, Poland. Since then, she’s been
following the pathway of EPSA trainers, and her
will for engaging in this training community has
been nothing but rising.
Sofija has been an EPSA Trainer Candidate since
July 2017, and she hopes to grow as a
trainer in the following period. She
believes that each and every one
of us should strive to improve
ourselves, and the best way
to do so is discovering and
working on soft skills.
Do you feel uncomfortable when trying to
connect with new people? Are you consciously
trying to build an efficient network for your
future? After all, networking is just another
way of interacting with people, but once you
attach an agenda to it it becomes awkward
and difficult. With the digital evolution in our
society, the possibilities are endless but it is not
so obvious how to use them properly.
This session will lead you to understand
the dynamics of networking, be more at ease
and assured when promoting yourself and to
learn how to entertain/keep those
connections on a long term.
So don’t hesitate and join us!
You will not regret it.
Learning goals
• Understand the importance of networking
on a personal level;
Maeva is a Togolese born
French. She has been an EPSA
trainer candidate from the latest
generation of trainers.
Studying in Clermont Ferrand, she is currently
in her 5th year of pharmacy studies. She fell
in love with trainings through the last EPSA
a trainer as well.Passionate with travelling,
sharing experience and knowledge and meeting
new people; she is eager to deliver trainings
that she believes are essential to become an
accomplished person.
Maeva always tries her best to deliver funny and
interactive trainings, putting participants at ease
TR1: Cultural Awareness
Antoaneta Balkanska, EPSA Trainer Candidate
Adéla Firlová, EPSA Trainer
In today’s multi-cultural age, it is pretty
hard to avoid strangers. Imagine: you come
to an EPSA congress to hang out with your
fellow colleagues from your country, and bam!
All those foreigners around. Super-punctual
Dutchies, tapping their watches and saying
“You are late”, Finns still in their winter hats, as
it is like minus a million degrees in Finland right
now, and so on? Addie and Tony will walk you
through the nightmare of cultural differences
and by the end of the session, they will make
sure you understand why cultural awareness
is so important and possibly even make you
appreciate it and know how to benefit from
being all different!
Addie is a Czechie in love with
design, creative stuff, travelling
and spaghetti. She has been
involved in EPSA since 2012,
and after holding a workshop in
the summer of 2014, she has been
basically pushed by two EPSA Trainers
to apply to become a trainer. She is now in her
first year of a PhD programme here in Brno, and
it is almost certain that she will become the
dean of her faculty at some point. She loves to
sleep in and stay up all night just to cut, stick
and draw over some paper or tape, ideally while
“watching” some movie.
Antoaneta Balkanska,
usually called Tony, is
achieving her goals step by step
beyond the edge of success. Now, a t
the end of her fifth year of pharmacy studies,
she has already been the President of Bulgarian
Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (BPhSA)
for the mandate 2016/2017. Since 2015, she
has been holding the position of Liaison
Secretary in EPSA and she always wanted
to become an EPSA Trainer. Her dreams are
coming true. After the TNT in Reims - France,
with the loveliest generation ever, she is now
a Trainer Candidate, more motivated than ever
to contribute to improve other people’s softskills
knowledge. Tony is highly ambitious,
passionate about learning, open-minded
and responsible; you will be surprised by her
positivity and creativity.
Learning goals
• Discuss and understand what Cultural
Awareness is and see why it is important;
• Analyze and be aware of own culture and
be able to empathise with others;
• Know the basics of how to deal with
people from other cultures and suspend
judgements;
• Understand that there are always more
than one correct way of solving problems.
emotions are taking you. It also allows you to
take control of your emotions, behavior, and
personality so that you can make the changes
you want. Come to our training and “Know
Thyself”!
comes from Bratislava,
Slovakia. He graduated from
Charles University, Czechia
this year in June and he is
currently working as Graduate
Scientist in AstraZeneca, Gothenburg, Sweden.
His passion for soft-skills developed during
Slovak-Polish-Czech Leadership Camp 2015, in
Brno (the same city as this event - how cool is
that?), which has led him to become a trainer
on May 2016, graduating 9th EPSA TNT in Oslo,
Norway as a part of NoYous generation.
He is convinced that soft-skills are crucial for life
and that learning them can be fun. His topic for
this AA is Self-awareness. He would be glad to
see you there. Have a nice time and enjoy the
EPSA AA 2017!
Learning goals
Self-awareness is about understanding your own
Switzerland as a consumer/patient health laboratory for
pharmacist e- and m- services
Stefan Wild
CEO TopPharm
The examples put in practice in
Switzerland show new roles and services
for pharmacists in cooperation with other
healthcare stakeholders using e- and
m-technology in their daily work. These new
types of services (telemedicine, mHealth) are
developed for consumer and patient care in
first, secondary and tertiary prevention as
well as for acute and chronic care.
Medgate Mini Clinic - small, powerful and
cost-effective
Medgate and TopPharm implemented the
newest supply concept Medgate Mini Clinic
just in September 2017. Fast, straightforward
and of high-quality - that is what consumers/
patients want for their medical care. And that is
exactly what Medgate’s Mini Clinics in TopPharm
pharmacies deliver. They are easily accessible,
offer a wide range of services on a walk-in
basis, and satisfy the high quality standards of
Medgate and TopPharm. They will help to reduce
the costs of healthcare and contribute to solving
problems due to the shortage of physicians.
When a consumer/patient enters a
TopPharm pharmacy with a Mini Clinic, he
passes through the triage by the pharmacy
workforce and he is then transferred to the
separate care room, where an experienced
health professional (medical practice assistant)
starts the examination. The investigation is
supported by an „(e)consultation tower“ and an
effective laboratory for a wide variety of medical
concerns. If necessary, the health professional
will arrange a video consultation with a
general practitioner or a specialist at Medgate’s
Telemedicine Center. Thanks to a telebiometry
station, which makes remote transmission of
biodata possible, the health professional can
also transmit the patient’s data and images (e.g.
images of the throat or auditory canal) to the
Medgate physician on duty.
Interdisciplinary operation for better
availability and cost-effectiveness
With the implementation of the new
healthcare concept, Medgate and TopPharm
not only provide customer-friendly medical
care outside usual practice hours, but also help
to overcome problems due to the shortage of
physicians, since health professionals in the
Mini Clinic can undertake certain additional
patient care tasks, thanks to the support of
the telemedicine staff and the pharmacist. In
addition, interprofessional cooperation between
the general practitioner, specialist, health
professional, pharmacist and the pharmacy
team also ensures the needed increase in the
cost-effectiveness of the healthcare system.
Pharmacist service “netCare“ and pharmacy
managed care offers
In addition, the concept and the
implementation results of the pharmacist service
“netcare“ as well as Managed Care and chronic
care offers in collaboration with ThickFunds
will be presented. NetCare is a service product
developed by PharmaSuisse, the pharmacist
association in Switzerland. The pharmacist takes
care of 25 acute care cases in a separate health
care room, with the support of algorithms and
possible telemedicine to solve the consumer
acute problem. In collaboration with SickFunds,
the netcare service can be offered within a
managed care pharmacy program.
Medgate provides straightforward
access to medical care of the highest
quality – anytime, anywhere. Medgate
has operated a Telemedicine Center in
Basel since 2000, where physicians of
various specialties advise and treat their
patients over the phone and around the
clock. Medgate coordinates well with
physicians and hospitals in the Medgate
Partner Network, and has its own medical
centers (Medgate Health Centers) in
Solothurn and Zurich. Medgate’s neutral
and independent position and its broad
network makes it an integral part of the
Swiss healthcare system. Medgate has
also exported its successful telemedicine
concept to other countries since 2014.
SYMPOSIUM 4
The TopPharm cooperative is
the largest group of independent
pharmacies in the Germanspeaking
part of Switzerland, and
it currently consists of 130 member
pharmacies. A total of more than 1850
pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and
druggists work together in TopPharm
pharmacies. The Group generates
annual sales of over 380 million
Swiss francs and serves about eight
million customers per year. TopPharm
pharmacies act as health coaches for
their customers, and go a step further
than the classical pharmacies – for
example with ‘netCare’ and the first
managed care pharmacy models,
‘Medpharm’ and ‘casamed pharm’.
From the very beginning, the pharmacist
has always been an active ingredient in
established communities. Advising, educating
and promoting health are only a few of his tasks,
fundamental to ensure the implementation of
healthier habits that lead to the prevention of
Farmacêuticos) has been developing several
social responsibility projects that aim to
empower the patients and increase the public
health markers in the local communities. Some
examples of these projects are the campaign
“Use of Medicines – We are responsible”, that
received the Health Promotion Campaign Award
from FIP in 2016, and the “Healthy Generation
reason for his love towards this
type of training. Since his graduation, he has
gained professional experience in the fields
of Organizing events, Quality Assurance
and he has recently moved into Drug safety
Continuous improvement is a mindset you
will surely pick up on if you are working in the
industry. It covers a wide range of tools and
methodologies.
If continuous improvement was first
developed in the car industry, it is now widely
spread in all kinds of industries, including the
pharmaceutical industry.
This training aims to present to you some
of the most famous and used tools of this big
tool box known as Continuous Improvement.
Even if you are not considering working in the
pharmaceutical industry, this training will be
useful to you, seeing as some of these tools
can be implemented in community or hospital
pharmacy and research. Some of these methods
could easily be applied in your personal life as
well. Actual examples will be given during the
WS2: Digitalisation of the Dr. Max pharmacy chain - everyday
benefits for employees and patients
Gabriel Pallay, M.D., PhD.
Head of professional education at Dr. Max - the biggest pharmacy in the Czech Republic
The Dr. Max pharmacy chain in the Czech
Republic comprises over 400 pharmacies
and about 5.000 employees in total, covering
millions of expeditions each year. The
operation of such a complex professional
community would not have been possible
without digitalisation and networking.
The logistics involved in ordering and
storing products, the tracking of the batches
and expiration times of extensive supplies,
the quick overview of the currently available
articles, the inventorying and administration
of suppliers or health insurances – all the
processes require sophisticated digitalisation.
Responsible choice of proper products,
prevention of drug interactions, instant review
of the patient’s preferences, awareness of the
warnings of regulation authorities – those
are only a few examples of the benefits of
digitalisation in the everyday practice of Dr.
Max’s pharmacists.
At the same time, the company possesses one
of the best systems of internal professional
education, comprising e-learning, a team
of internal trainers, regular organisation of
professional conferences for pharmacists,
technicians, doctors and nurses – both the
quantity and quality attained with these
activities could not have been implemented
without digitalisation and networking.
Last but not least – professional campaigns,
comprising nearly 80.000 patients in 2016 (so far
over 60.000 in 2017), data collection, evaluation,
interpretation and publication – they also
require routine use of digital networking.
Learning goals
• Big data handling and digital networking
in everyday practice, in one of the largest
pharmacy chains in the Czech Republic
TR1: Feedback
Débora Martins and Ana Florentina Gui
How many times have we been asked to
provide feedback to a professor, a friend or
a member of our organisation? It might be
hard to receive it and even harder to provide
it, but feedback is an important part of the
communication process. Moreover, it is an
essential skill for self-improvement and crucial
for the development within groups and
organisations, where the continuous input of
the members is a necessity.
Effective feedback, both positive and
negative, represents valuable information and
should be used for constant improvement and
growing.
This training is designed to provide
participants with tools that will enable them
Learning goals
• Understand the importance
of giving and receiving
feedback;
• Be able to provide
constructive feedback;
• Be able to understand and develop a
feedback receiving process.
take this interest to another level and become
a soft-skills trainer. She became part of the
Dracula Generation of trainers, after attending
the EMSA TNT in 2016.
Ana is currently an EPSA Trainer Candidate and
she tries to improve herself and learn something
new every day. She believes that things always
happen for a reason and every person we meet
TR1: Creative Problem Solving and Decision Making
Sara Torgal, EPSA Trainer
Özgün Özyigit, EPSA Trainer Candidate
We all wish for a life without trouble. Luckily
for us, we face many problems and we have to
make decisions every day. Let’s be honest here,
without problems to solve, life would be very
boring.
Going forward is only possible by solving
problems. Since the beginning of time humanity
has solved many problems, and created new
ones at the same time. Nowadays, our daily lives
are replete with problems and decisions that
come in different shapes and sizes. But don’t
worry! During this session, we will cover some
methods that can be used to creatively solve
problems and make better decisions, all the
while learning how to apply them.
In the end, a problem gives us a chance to
do our best and “all we have to decide is what to
do with the time that is given to us.”
You can find
president of IUPSAint and
Chairperson of EPSA SU
2018.
He is interested in soft skills and their impact
on the success of students. He thinks a person
can always learn new things by meeting new
people, and learning new things keeps us fresh
and makes us better people.
He likes to try new things, good music and
travelling.
He is excited to meet other trainers in this event.
Learning goals
• Know different creative thinking
approaches;
• Understand how to apply creative thinking
to problem solving;
• Know how to better understand all options
before making a decision.
TR2: Improvisation
Diogo Capitulo, EPSA Trainer
Pierre Machuel, EPSA Trainer Candidate
You are in a foreign country, you don’t
understand a word of what the locals say. It is
late, you have been waiting for ages to catch
your train and now they have all been canceled
due to the heavy snow. You are out of battery
on your phone, you don’t have any money, you
can’t stay for the night and you need a train. You
are waiting along with thousands of people,
who are waiting for their trains as well. It finally
arrives, the first and only train! But first come, first
served… You need to find a solution in order to
be in the group of people that arrived first. You
need to think, and quickly, because you are on
your own this time. It is time to improvise. When
20 minutes later, the train finally starts moving,
you are in. How did you do this? How did you
solve this problem? What is this amazing but
hidden superpower that we call improvisation?
Learning goals
• Understand the definition of Improvisation,
and in which situation it is used;
• Be able to use their ability to improvise
and improve it;
• Insure themselves by being confident,
by knowing how to improvise in case of
an emergency.
Agata Maristella Gorska
IPSF Chairperson of European Regional Office
WDGs: Workforce Development Goals
is one of the three documents adopted
during The Global Conference on Pharmacy
and Pharmaceutical Sciences Education in
Nanjing, China organised by The International
Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). It contains a set
of goals that can impact the global development
for pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences
education.
International Pharmaceutical Students’
Federation (IPSF) raised comments during two
rounds of consultations on these important
documents. All changes were accepted, giving
pharmacy students a say in the transformation
of the profession. This session will serve as an
opportunity to learn what was the outcome
of the joint working group made of students
and pharmacy professionals. Focus will be on
the education related part, mentioning other
corresponding frameworks and resolutions
by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and
United Nations (UN).
The workshop will be lecture-based and
Maciej Brodowski and Sofija Gicheva, EPSA Trainer Candidates
We’ve all heard of Nike, Apple and Samsung
– they are all brands. But did you know that you
are also a brand? And when it comes to branding,
opinions are crucial, especially the ones from our
surroundings.
Prejudging? We have all been there. We
meet someone and we instantly form an image
about them in our minds. Guess what, other
people do the same to you. Personal branding
is the tool that helps you decide what you want
them to see: highlight your advantages and hide
your weaknesses. We will help you define who
• Understand the concept of WDGs;
• Get to know the direction on education
that was proposed in Nanjing Statement
and WDGs;
• See the impact that students can make in
the education field at their local ground.
you are, what are your abilities,
and what makes you unique and stand out from
the crowd.
As academic individuals, we are the future
of this society. We are the driving force of the
community with our new, fresh ideas. Good
personal branding will make you heard and it
will allow you to transform any of those great
ideas into reality.
You can find
Sofija’s bio
on page 14.
Learning goals
• Define personal branding;
• Know the tools to create a good personal
brand.
Maciej is an ambitious EPSA Trainer Candidate from
the “Spread the love” generation and this mandate’s
Publications Coordinator in the EPSA Team. During
TNT in Brno, Maciej began his journey of helping
others to get better every day, and after that, he just
couldn’t stop. He is now getting involved in every
possible training opportunity in sight!
TR2: Presentation and Storytelling
Maeva D’almeida, EPSA Trainer Candidate
Ivan Stupák, EPSA Trainer
Do you feel insecure while presenting?
Are you wondering what differences a
common presenter from a podium star?
No matter how good or important
a message is, if it is not delivered in an
interesting and effective way, chances
are that it won’t be heard at all. Strong
presentation skills can advance not only
your studies but also your future career.
After taking this training, you will be
ready to conquer the podium and deliver
a presentation that gets the results you
wished. From dynamic introductions and
great story to powerful closing; you don’t
want to miss this training and not become
the star that shines out, do you?
Learning goals
• Identify the essential components of a
presentation;
• Create a breathtaking presentation;
• Implement tips and techniques for
successfully delivering presentations.
His main focus is the
psychology of success
and mindfulness. He
loves to travel and do
new things. He is curious
about everything. He is
particularly passionate about
sports (especially basketball and callisthenics)
and business strategies. When asked: “what do
you always have by your side?”, he answers; “pen,
notebook and my kindle”. He is currently in the
process of writing his own book. He is a huge fan
of sir Richard Branson and Elon Musk.
Ivan Stupák is an EPSA
trainer from the 8th
generation; What’s Next.
He comes from Slovakia
and currently studies as a
PhD student at the University of
Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno,
in the Czech Republic.
He was first impressed by soft skills trainings
about 3 years ago. Since then, it was only matter
of time until he realized how important such skills
were when mastered . He believes this glorious
journey of soft skills’ development is not only
valuable in our everyday interactions with our
surroundings but it is also, and more importantly,
our own way of self-understanding and personal
development, all necessary to pursue a successful
life.
As a trainer, he has already delivered a number
of different training sessions at various events,
but for some reason, one of the most essential
trainings to him is... :) Feel free to ask him in person
and meet a very friendly and communicative
trainer, just as Ivan.
Due to the fast evolution of technology,
medicine and science, both hard and soft skills
play a major role in one’s success. Nowadays, to
be updated is probably the most crucial aspect,
not just to differentiate a good professional from
a bad one but also, in such a highly demanding
market, to allow the best ones to stand out from
the average pool.
SATURDAY
This differentiation starts when people
adopt a lifelong learning posture that, when
transposed to the professional world, can lead
to a continuous professional development
mindset, which frequently emerges in the
different skills set of the employees.
Lifelong learning and professional
development walk in tight hands together. In
this workshop we aim to explore what exactly is
lifelong learning, how it becomes so important,
how to adopt a lifelong learning mindset and
how this can be related to your professional
development. We will also explore the topic of
professional development itself; what to look
for, how to start, how to look for opportunities
and how to make yourself valuable in the
professional market.
For those aiming to start their professional
life with the right foot, come and get to
know how to become lifelong learners!
Learning goals
your public speaking, inspire others and perform
on stage. This and much more is what our
TEDeps can give you.
According to her (nonpharmacy)
friends, Neža is
everything but an ordinary
pharmacy student. Besides being
occupied with the last few years
of university, she has been involved
in Students’ Section of Slovenian Pharmaceutical
Society since 2014, being committed to representing
its voice both at the national and international level.
Driven by the importance of soft-skills education,
she found her way to bring it closer to students by
becoming a part of the EPSA trainers’ community.
After completing her Training New Trainers (TNT)
event in May 2016, Neža’s great interest in human
relations led her to deliver trainings to a diverse
audience and work with some incredible colleagues.
Open-minded, compassionate, enthusiastic,
humble, but yet an ambitious person as she is, she
is taking advantage of every opportunity to learn
and invest in her personal growth. She embraces her
calling as an inexhaustible source of inspiration to
always give back more. Sharing herself, she enables
others to broaden their horizons.
Learning goals
• Understand the importance
of working in a group as well
as leading one;
• Understand the importance of soft skills in
everyday life;
• Analyse their workplace and it’s necessities;
• Apply tools and practices which are
important in every workplace.
TR2: Emotional Intelligence
Anastasia Kuntsevich and Andreea Salagean, EPSA Trainer Candidates
Do you know what Emotional Intelligence
(EI) is? What are the differences between EI and
IQ? How can you develop your EI? These are the
questions that we will tackle together during
this training. Emotional Intelligence is the core
of soft skills and it has a big impact in our lives.
If you are interested in self-development, this
is the perfect training for you. Together we will
learn how to be smart about our feelings.
Volunteering was the
entrance ticket for a lifechanging
experience for
Andreea. She started her
role as a volunteer in her
first year of university, as part
of the Helping Team for EPSA
Summer University 2012 in Brasov,
and she performed different tasks that had a high
impact on her development. Being interested
in self-development, Andreea felt it would be
natural to join the team of EPSA’s soft skills trainers.
Apart from this, in her daily life, she is working as
Pharmacovigilance Specialist in Prague. If you
are interested to find out more about the role of
a pharmacist in pharmacovigilance and future
opportunities feel free to approach her for a talk.
Anastasiya was originally born in Belarus,
but now she is in her 5th year of studies in
Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. She is very
communicative, open-minded and outgoing,
even if she doesn’t look so at first glance! Give
her a try and you will be surprised! Trying to
prove people, that she is friendly and useful,
she became a TWINNET Coordinator 2017/2018
in Czechia and later a Trainer Candidate after a
lovely TNT in Reims with amazing generation!
She is the type of person to meet challenges
head-on rather than sweep them under the rug
and hope they go away. She
is highly motivated and
looking forward to meet all
of you to spread positive
energy!
Learning goals
• Understand the concept of EI and the
The field of bioentrepreneurship, alias the
adventurous and exciting one. But at the same
time it can be just as risky and deceiving.
Have you ever found yourself dreaming of
starting your own company? Are you interested
in the work of an entrepreneur? If the answers
are yes, do not hesitate to join this session
and learn the do’s and don’ts of a career in
bioentrepreneurship!
In this session the attendees will receive an
eye-opening presentation of the most innovative
technologies available on the healthcare market
and will learn about the perks and challenges of
starting a company.
Next, the workshop will continue with an
interactive exercise where participants will form
groups and make use of the learnt skills to come
up with and develop a start-up idea. The ideas
will be pitched by each group to the rest of the
workshop to practice public speaking skills.
After serving
as
Vice-
WS3: Intro to calisthenics
Maciej Brodowski
EPSA Team, Publications Coordinator, PPSA Poland
We all heard that. Physical exercises
are super important for a healthy lifestyle.
Sometimes, we are so absorbed by our studies
or work, that we forget about it. Or worse, we
convince ourselves that we don’t have time,
that the gym is too expensive or whatever else.
During this workshop I will show you some
simple techniques that you can do wherever you
want. Calisthenics is the art of using your own
body weight to exercise. The word itself comes
from the ancient Greek word kalos (κάλλος),
TR2: Motivation
should be doing?”
Also, if you are not sure what motivates you,
we are going to push/lead you to find out. We
are looking forward to transforming the way you
