7th, 8th & 9th June 2018 HOLE PARK Rolvenden TN17 4JB Hark the Marlborough House choir sing We spoke to Ms Diane Day, the Director of Music at Marlborough House School and a talented opera singer and pianist Which are your four favourite Christmas carols and why? O Little Town of Bethlehem I sang in a local church choir from the age of six and really loved singing ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ year after year. It paints a wonderful picture and has one of the loveliest descants for sopranos to sing. In the Bleak Midwinter It seems I am drawn to those carols that help you visualise a beautiful scene, but with ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’, it is that last verse that gets me every time. ‘Yet what I can I give Him, Give my heart.’ It reminds us all of what is really important all year round, but especially at Christmas. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing I love ‘Hark the Herald ‘ for its strong melody and celebratory energy. I can hear brass and lots of harmonies and again a super descant for the sopranos to sing at the top of their lungs. Shepherd’s Pipe Carol The Shepherd’s Pipe Carol was our carol for ‘All Choirs’ at our School Carol Service last Christmas and it is definitely one of my favourites. When I was a young child, my father used to conduct a choral society and whenever they sang the Shepherd’s Pipe Carol, I knew Christmas was here.
