Academics Meet the New Faculty and Staff at Lake Center Christian School Kim Beavers, Director of Communication, Marketing, and Public Relations I love working at Lake Center Christian School in the administrative role of Director of Communication, Marketing, and Public Relations. I love being able to use my business, education, and technology degrees in my new role. I married my high school sweetheart, Brian, and we just celebrated 38 years of being together. We have a mini-hobby farm with goats, chickens, and cats. We attend the Chapel in Akron and helped start The Chapel in Green. I was raised in a Christian home and attended the Akron Baptist Temple until I got married. I accepted Christ as my personal Saviour when I was in 4th grade. I graduated from Green High, Stark State/Kent State, University of Phoenix, Cedarville, and am currently working on my doctorate. I also hold multiple technology degrees including Google Certified Instructor Level 1 and 2 and a Master MOS degree from Microsoft. I was an educator at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) teaching business and technology for the past 19 years; and I have taught at Portage Lakes Career Center. I have also worked corporately at the American Cancer Society, BF Goodrich, Microsoft, and The Chapel in Akron. I am also the Ohio Future Business Leaders of America State Director. I am thrilled to be working at Lake Center Christian School. God has truly blessed me with this position. Jaynie Brown, Cafeteria Monitor My name actually is Adeline J. Brown but I like to be called “Jaynie.” I just celebrated my 40th wedding anniversary with my husband, Mike. I worked for over 20 years in the medical industry as a Phlebotomist (I worked in the lab drawing blood samples) and spent the last ten years of my career at Akron General/Cleveland Clinic. I took this job to start a new season of my life working with children. My husband and I have three children, a daughter and two sons. Between all of them we’re blessed with 12 grandchildren! Our daughter, Jodi, is a Nurse at Akron General Emergency Room. Our oldest son, Mike, is a Pastor at Faith Bible Church in Plain Township 7 The Light Fall/Winter 2017/2018 and our youngest son, Billy, is a Barber at Barbers West in Fairlawn. Our grandchildren consist of 6 boys and 6 girls and in this group there are 2 sets of boy twins (one set is identical and the other fraternal). We are blessed that all our children live locally and we can see them frequently. I am also an animal lover. Currently we have 2 rescues, Calleigh and Jax. Calleigh is a 5 year old Shih Tzu and Jax is a 1 year old 90 pound blonde Lab. We enjoy taking them on hikes in the stark parks and in our neighborhood. We enjoy our church (Faith Bible, Plain Township) and worshipping our Lord with family and friends. My husband and I were somewhat late bloomers coming to Christ in our early 40’s, but we realize it was to be in God’s time and not ours. My husband is an engineer in the plastics industry and has gotten to travel to far away lands such as China and Taiwan as well as many areas of the United States. I sometimes get to go with him and enjoy our times together traveling. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with the family, cookouts, bon fires and outdoors. Oh yes! We have a motorcycle and I enjoy taking trips on our Harley on the weekends! I am very excited, thankful and grateful to be here at Lake Center Christian school serving the Children and our Lord. Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” Michael Cochran, High School Bible Teacher Here are some highlights of the Cochran journey. I have been married for 28 years to my elementary school best friend. We both accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior in high school. In the last 25 years, I have been an accountant, foster parent, pastor, farmer, coach, general contractor, counselor, professor, missionary, orphanage director, social worker and now a high school teacher. I have ministered or lived in over a dozen countries. My wife and I have sold everything and gone to the mission-field fulltime, twice. We were married for twenty years before having children. While on our last mission field in Brazil, we adopted three children, Ben, Jenna and Lindsay and became instant parents of teenagers. I graduated from Malone College and finished grad school at Ashland University. I have studied Arabic at the University of Damascus, and as a family we speak Portuguese at home. I love Jesus and have a passion for serving Him, anyway, anywhere, at any time.
Academics Meet the New Faculty and Staff at Lake Center Christian School Kim Jordan, Junior High Science Teacher I live in Wadsworth with my husband Travis of 22 years, my daughter Alexis, and dog, Puff. I have served in a variety of capacities during my educational career, in public and private organizations, teaching preschool through high school. I hold degrees in elementary education and education administration from Heidelberg University and Grand Canyon University. During my free time, I enjoy running, biking, working outdoors, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. Jordan Mihalik, Junior High Social Studies Teacher First, let me just say that it is truly an answer to prayer and a great responsibility to be able to teach at Lake Center Christian. I think very highly of this institution and hope that I can do my small part to fulfill its mission. I am originally from the area and graduated from Lake High School in 2004. From there, I went on to Grove City College and the University of Akron to complete my bachelor’s and master’s in history respectively. All my life I have been a Christian, but my faith truly strengthened during my time at Grove City. Without His guidance I know I would not be where I am at today. My love for history started at a young age after reading a trilogy of books on Byzantium. Ever since that point I have only become more convinced that the best way to prepare for the future is to know the truth about our past. Therefore, my overriding mission is to teach young men and women an objective Christian perspective on history in contrast to the secular view they will encounter in the world. I met my wife, Whitney, in graduate school and we have been married for over five years now. We attend and serve at Canton Nazarene, the church I was born and raised in. We love playing all sorts of board games in our free time, the more convoluted the better. Another great interest for me is reading. Two of my favorite authors are C.S Lewis and Victor Hugo. I look forward to meeting you and preparing students for the future God has planned for them! Tom Paisley, Study Hall Monitor I am the high school study hall monitor. I have been ministering to youth in churches and other venues since 2008. I hold degrees in theology and history from Moody Bible Institute, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Boston College. In addition to my work at Lake Center, I am on staff at Urban Vision, a ministry in North Akron. We are expecting our first child and live in the North Hill neighborhood of Akron. In my free time, I enjoy reading and hiking. Laura Via, Kindergarten - 8th Grade Art Teacher I first came to Lake Center as a tenth grader looking for something different than my previous school. I loved what I found, and actually decided to be an art teacher because of the encouragement of my own art teacher here (Mrs. Brott). I was planning to study dental hygiene but Mrs. Brott pointed out that I was always trying to avoid chemistry and physics by staying in the art room longer. I went to Ohio State University and graduated in 2016. While I was there I was involved with Cru, Campus Crusade for Christ. I led Bible studies in freshmen dorms with one of my best friends. During the Fall of my senior year, our leaders challenged us to think and pray about spending a year doing full time missions with Cru. I decided that’s what the Lord wanted, and spent last year helping to launch a new Cru movement in Florianopolis, Brazil. The Lord works out the timing of all things, and there was a job available here again when my time in Brazil was up. It’s fun to be on the other side as a teacher, and in the elementary grades, which I had never experienced. My youngest brother is a junior here, and my sister graduated two years ago. I am a “maker.” I love sewing and other three-dimensional kinds of art best. I love introducing students to new forms of art and encouraging them to be creative and experiment, especially if they don’t think they’re good at drawing or the more traditional forms of art.
