(English) The arrow must go deep into the target, otherwise, it becomes an ineffective shot, which gives the animal / enemy an opportunity to escape. This year 2016 has been ambitious and challenging for us at Kata Kata. It is the year that gave birth to the School Edition (in the Dutch language) of Kata Kata and a new office in Kenya, where we have one of the most amazing, persistent, devoted and highly engaging groups of readers in Africa. Having the School Edition of Kata Kata, which is systematically being introduced in the Netherlands and Suriname schools, comes with additional responsibilities and huge challenges. However, the positive reception of the new edition by various schools so far has been most encouraging and rewarding. What a better way to be rewarded for your hard work? Recently, our various societies have been facing numerous challenges; none is more unpredictable than the religious problem. Religious challenges have brought about inflammable violence, segregation, dichotomy, prejudice, unnecessary numerous deaths and other social ills. Often, these religious related problems are caused by mere misinterpretation and misunderstanding of the religious text. Suffice is to say that many shrewd business and criminal minded leaders use the textual misinterpretation for their personal aggrandisement, including making billions of dollars from gullible minded followers and causing social mayhem. Worse still, religious zealots and fanatics have capitalised on the semantic loopholes in the religious textual interpretation to promote deadly violence and indeed other criminal activities in the name of religion. Definitely, due to double - and sometimes conflicting – misinterpretations, religious meanings have become multiple and sometimes ironic for that matter. Interestingly, this multiplicity of meaning has put both the messages of religions – and to a large extent, their leaders too - in the spotlight and scrutiny. Worse still, with a lot of fastidious - and often fake - religious leaders around, it has become very difficult for some to separate the sheep from the goats. Therefore, some have problems to understand or believe religious messages from these religious leaders. Useni is facing this dilemma as he tries to follow the priest’s teachings on the importance of communication with God. For sure, Useni is not the only one in this (mis) interpretation predicament. Unless we try to come together and find a common ground, there is definitely, a misty road ahead. But you know that Kata kata is here to sensitise our social problems. You can only solve a problem by tackling them. Hence, despite the misty road ahead, Kata Kata wagon is on the way. So if you want to be part of this important journey, come and join us quickly before we leave. Yours in Kata Kata, Ogo Ubabukoh Editor in Chief / Publisher Kata kata cartoon magazine 5
