The 2014 Coastal Living
showhouse is located in
Coronado, California, an island
community just across the bay
from San Diego. The design
team from Burnham Design
uses classic, effortlessly chic
styles from Lee to set the stage
for an amazing home.

The color palette is crisp and clean with pops
of color throughout the house. By using linens,
leathers, and even hair-on-hide leathers,
unexpected elements are abundant.

The focus in the living
room begins with the
3907-03 sofa, shown here
in fabric Farrow Silver with
a 4-inch band on the skirt
in contrasting fabric,
Belize Navy. These
elements set the tone for
accessories and throw
pillows throughout the
room.

DEERFIELD SKY FABRIC
A pair of 1829-01 chairs in fabric
Deerfield Sky gives new meaning to
sophistication and refinement in the
living room. The walnut base adds
a hint of nature as the sun streams
through the windows on both sides of
the room.

When working on any
interior design, it’s always fun
to add animal prints to the
project. Fernando Alabaster,
a 100% linen fabric, is
presented on a pair of
exposed wood frame chairs,
the 5978-01.

room. With the seating
surface the exact size
of a twin mattress, you
have just gained two
more sleeping spaces.
The sectional at the
showhouse is featured
in fabric Starnes Organic
White, but it takes on a
look of its own in different

DESIGNER TALK
WITH BETSY AND MAX
Betsy Burnham marries the classic with the
unexpected in fresh compositions of texture, color,
pattern, and wit. Importing a classic, east coast eye to the
canyon, beach, and hillside homes of Southern California,
Betsy curates rooms that are sophisticated, livable,
timeless, and always personalized to her clients and their
lives. Betsy’s work has been widely seen in the media,
including The New York Times, The Today Show, House
Beautiful, Lonny, Instyle Home, and more.
“Our goal for the house was effortless and chic.
Think old school Hamptons filtered through the
California sun. We wanted the house to be like a
great outfit that carries from daytime to dinner and
after; one that works when kids and dogs and sand
are underfoot, but also sets the stage for everything
from beach barbecues to elegant cocktail parties.”
Max Humphrey, partner and designer at Burnham
Design, earned his title through hard work, experience, and
developing a unique design aesthetic. His loft was featured
in Lonny magazine, and in 2013 he was named one of
the national ‘young guns’ of interior design. Max lives his
aesthetic in his own home: a historical loft in downtown Los
Angeles arts district accented with vintage Gucci Barware,
Hermes ashtrays, and a guitar collection amassed from his
years of touring.
