gets Pride of India Award

MISSISSAUGA: Raman
Dua, CEO of Save Max, was
honoured with the Pride
of India Award at a distinguished
event held in Gurgaon.
The award ceremony,
which was held at one of the
most splendid venues of The
Ritz (Ambience Island), was
attended by Union ministers
Ramdas Athawale and Purshotam
Rupala, Union Minister
of State Sanjay Pathak,
BJP spokesman Shahnawaz
Hussain and many celebrities,
including boxer Vijender
Singh.
The main focus of the
event was the newly introduced
Real Estate Regulatory
Act (RERA) and Goods
and Service Tax (GST) and
make business leaders and
real estate developers aware
about the macro-level benefits
from the Real Estate
Regulation Act.
People connected with
real estate, capital markets,
IT, banking and allied industries
were invited for the
event.

Addressing the audience,
Dua shared his vision
for future investment in India.
He felt optimistic about
the changing business atmosphere
in India and was
very hopeful that after 15-
20 years, his son will come
back to do business in India.
He said GST and RERA
will bring great benefits to
the Indian real estate market
in ht elong run and keep
the real estate business
transparent. This will also
bring NRI Investors back to
India who have always been
looking forward for proper
laws to be implemented for
home buyers peace of mind.

culture and heritage.
After emigrating to Canada
in 2003, I was presented
with great opportunities to
prosper and reached a stage
where I was able to represent
the Indian community

Dua said, “I am humbled
by this great honour and
simply cannot describe how
great it feels to be called the

pleased to have received this
award as I feel it is the crown
of my overall professional
journey in Canada. It really
means a lot.”

40 people defrauded of $300,000
in Toronto-area Bitcoin tax scam

AURORA: Police say more
than 40 residents in communities
north of Toronto have
fallen victim to a Bitcoin tax
scam, sending over $300,000
to fraudsters since August.
York regional police say
they have seen a significant
increase in reports of scammers
identifying themselves
as Canada Revenue Agency
employees.
The suspects tell victims
they have overdue taxes to
pay, and threaten them with
arrest if they don't settle up.
In recent months, the
scammers have persuaded
victims to send them money
using the virtual currency
Bitcoin.Officers say Bitcoin
transactions are unregulated
and untraceable, making
it difficult to investigate the
frauds. Police in York Region
have advised the public
that any calls or emails asking
for Bitcoin tax payments
should be treated as a scam.
The Canadian Anti-
Fraud Centre said it has received
more than 2,000 complaints
in 2017 from people
across the country who have
been defrauded by someone
pretending to work for the
CRA.
Of those victims, over
100 reported using a digital
currency like Bitcoin to pay
the scammers.
Mayor Linda Jaffrey welcomes
37 new beds at Brampton Civic

welcomed the provincial government's
decision to make
37 more beds available at
Brampton Civic Hospital.
She also welcomed the
decision by the government
to move forward with phase
2 at Peel Memorial. In a statement,
the mayor this step
"demonstrates that the Province
is listening and taking
action.'' She said, "This announcement
by the Province
is much appreciated news and
begins to address the explosive
growth our city has been
experiencing. These investments
are critical to our community
and we welcome this
decision. My Council and I are
committed to working closely
with the local leaders to continue
to advocate for better
health care in Brampton.''
The mayor Brampton
Civic Hospital is Ontario’s
largest community hospital
and it is also one of the busiest
Emergency Departments in
Canada."I’ve seen first-hand
how challenging the demand
gets at Brampton Civic and at
the new Peel Memorial Centre
for Integrated Health &
Wellness. "While our doctors,
nurses, staff and volunteers
are the absolute best – working
around the clock to ensure
our residents get the highest
quality health care – it was
clear to me that they needed
additional resources, which is
why I wrote an open letter to
Brampton residents last week
highlighting our health care
priorities and concerns as a
City to the Province.''
