n SunRidge Middle SunRidge Middle Principal Patricia Bowen- Painter is the Orange County Public Schools 2017-18 Principal of the Year. x November 16 — December 6, 2017 x 35 She also has been the OCPS Middle Schools Principals Association president since 2013. “Whether it has been as a classroom teacher, resource teacher, assistant principal or principal, I have believed that education is a lifechanging experience, and it is my responsibility to ensure that all students have the opportunity to transform their lives,” Ms. Bowen-Painter said. During a ceremony held at Madame Tussauds Orlando, SunRidge Middle’s principal, Patricia Bowen-Painter, was named Orange County Public Schools’ 2017-18 principal of the year. The announcement capped off October’s celebration of National Principals Month. Ms. Bowen-Painter has led SunRidge Middle since it opened in February 2012 and previously served nearly seven years as principal at Odyssey Middle. During her tenure, SunRidge Middle was the top-scoring middle school in the district for FSA accountability in 2016-17 and FCAT accountability in 2013-14. n West Orange High Band Director Kenneth Boyd was in the running for Orange County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. He made it to the top five, out of 192 teachers. His outstanding qualities highlight his excellence. As a new tradition, Mr. Boyd was presented with the school coat of arms, which he signed and will display in his classroom throughout the year. Next school year, he will pass the coat of arms to the next WOHS teacher of the year.
