time only the methods of ventilation or airing were

used to solve of the humidity in swimming pool

Important advice for the use of indoor

swimming pool dehumidification

Constructing a swimming pool hall. Cold spots

have to be avoided by all means

It’s impossible to prevent condensating water at

cold sots with any air dehumidification

equipment irrespective of type or manufacture

Cold spots have to be avoided and this must be

carried out in the physical construction

The room air temperature of the swimming pool

hall should be always 3° above water

temperature. The reason for this advice: If the

water temperature is higher than the air

temperature, the evaporation will be much

higher. The efficiency of the air dehumidification

equipment would be overextended

What you should know about air

dehumidification

The problem of high humidity is

more widespread than generally

known. Beside private and public

swimming pool halls (or: indoor

swimming pools), where air

dehumidification is absolutely

necessary, there are a lot of other

spheres where a high level of

humidity damages the building

substance of bathrooms and

showers. Living rooms, basements

and storerooms, workshops and

factory halls, waterworks, museums,

laboratories, foodstuff industry and

in the chemical industry.

dehumidification:

1. Air dehumidification through airing

Fresh air is warmed up and blown into the room

where it absorbes the moisture. Afterwards the

warm and moist air is discharged to the outside.

2. Air dehumidification

by hypothermia

The temperature is reduced to the dew point and

during this process water is eliminated. Energy

which is necessary for this process is again

available as thermal energy. The thermal energy,

which had been detracted from the air by cooling

cooling it down will be added as heat to

the air as well.

3. Air humidification through

absorption

The air of the room is running through a contact

material to which the humidity is emitted. Through

a process of regeneration the humidity will be

detached from the contact-material

again.

Conclusions

Dehumidification based on the method of hypothermia is the best

method according to an economical point of view

• because the method of dehumidification isn’t energy wasting.

• because the heat is regained. This guarantees perfect

dehumidification, which is independent of weather

Dehumidification method

Why is it necessary to dehumidifing

an indoor swimming pool? From the

surface of a indoor swimming pool

the water is constantly evaporating,

as a result the humidity is increasing, an the

air is stuffy ans sultry. At the

same time the moisture is

condensing. On the windows and

walls. And ceilings this can in time

damage. The building through rot.

For the dehumidification of indoor

swimming pool two methods can be

used:

a) Dehumidification according to the

principle of airing and ventilation

b) Air dehumidification according to the

principle of a heat pump

According to the technical point of view Operating both principles of the

But from an economical point of

view dehumidification with a

heat pump is indisputably the

better solution. Airing ventilation

system is disadvantageous

because warm air, produced

with high energy costs, is lost

and fresh cold air has to be

heated up. By contrast the

WIEGAND-air dehumidification

appliances works without

wasting warm air. The air

dehumidification appliances

draws in the swimming pool air

cooling it down until it falls

below dew point. During this

process water is condensed.

Then the air is heated with the

heat that had been detracted

before and dry air, additionally

warmed up with 10 °C, comes

out of the other side of the

appliance.

The additional heat is the result

of a physical effect: the process

of evaporation with draws heat

from the water of the indoor

swimming pool. This so called

“latent” heat you get back by a

process of condensation in the

WIEGAND – air dehumidification

unit (this is meant by heat

recovery). Also the operating

temperature of the compressor

is utilized

The humid air sucked in by the

radial fan (1) flows through the

evaporator (2), where it’s cooled down

to fall below dew point and eliminates water.

This condensed water drops in the drain

pan (3) and is drained through the

conductor pipe.

The cooled and dry dehumidified

air is added to the condenser (4).

From the condenser it comes out heated.

This airflow absorbs the warmth

of the compressor (5) and the

fan motor (6) and cools it down.

The heat back system is based on

the principle of a heat pump and

from an energetic point of view

the best solution.

dehumidification units had been specially

developed to be used for swimming pools.

They are not converted air conditioning

systems. Compressor and evaporator

performances are organized to obtain

better results with regards to the

expenditure of energy (electric power

consumption).

regulated by a safe high-quality

humidity controller with a 12 V DC voltage.

The equipment is protected by a high

and low pressostat and a defrosting-

controller. The WIEGAND - air dehumidi-

fication equipment is in principle

maintenance-free, solely in the case of

pollution – which occurs very rarely in

swimming pool halls – evaporators and

condensers have to be brushed off or

sucked out with a carpet cleaner the drip

pan and the radiator outlet connection

has to be cleaned.

The Installation of the appliance is

limited to the attachment of the consoles,

positioning appliance. The mountings

with layers of rubber to stop vibration

attaching the condensate drain and the

electric feed line (protection referring to

the technical index) and to attach the

hygrostate. A detailed and comprehensible

assembly and instruction manual is

delivered with every unit

Heat recovery is a by-product of

the technical method – but

something which is desired.

Operation costs depend on the

level of humidity existing in indoor

swimming pools. If you have for

example 75% (diagram factor 1)

instead of 60% (diagram factor 2)

relative humidity in the indoor

swimming room you need only the

half of the energy. At a level of

50% relative humidity (factor 4)

Different types of installation

Irrespective of functioning

and modes of action there

are several solutions to

install the units. The

simplest, fastest and most

inexpensive installation is

the fixing of the equipment

on a ceiling or wall mounting

or to situate it on the floor.

Installation inside the

swimming pool hall

Installation inside the swimming pool hall

is the best solution in case of an already

existing hall. Reconstructions, wall

penetrations or other building operations

are not necessary. Thereby you should

take into account that such an installation

maybe not always satisfy all you

aesthetic aspirations. In regard to the

potential savings of energy-costs

however its really profitable to accept this

minimal disadvantage particularly as

there are several presentable possibilities

to disguise the unit.

WIEGAND-air dehumidification units can

be situated on the floor and boxed up to be

used as a bench. The effectiveness of the

Installation examples

It’s possible to install the equipment in

the next room without problems. For

installation we have appropriate fittings

to connect WIEGAND air

dehumidification units with 315 mm,

conduit installation-box for the wall-

mounting of the pipe connection and

wall grids. If the unit is installed in a

cold room (during winter time below

20°C), the conduit and all the other

parts should be isolated to avoid

condensation and heat loss.

Installation of the Monoblock

Air dehumidification unit and heater are

forming a unit (description monoblock

see page 15). The air heater produces

additional heat output when during

wintertime the heat loss of the

swimming hall is much larger than the

heat recovery through the air

dehumidification system. The regulation

is controlled through a hygro- and a

thermostat

The caloric air curtain in front of the

sliding door is vacuumed on the

opposite side and is conducted back

through the vertical channel to the air

dehumidification unit.

In this arrangement no other radiator is

necessary. Variations of these

examples are possible. The equipment

is arranged in such a way that it

produces an air circulation under the

ceiling, which warms up the corners

and keeps them dry. The surface of the

water should not been blown on,

because too much water would

evaporate.

Installation inside the channel system

If the WIEGAND swimming pool

hall air dehumidification

equipment can not be installed

inside the hall but rather has to

be integrated into a channel

system, it will be important to

consider the characteristics for

different ventilator outputs

respectively for the air

compression.

Principally it’s possible to connect the

WIEGAND air dehumidification unit with

any channel system to install it into:

The resisstance of the channel system

has to be correlated to the channel

system. According to that the capacity

of the fan that is needed.

For a calculation of the pressure loss it

is necessary to take care that the

amount of air doesn’t fall below

ca. 850 m / h.

To evaluate the situation in a specific

case - for average conditions, such as

flow velocity in the channel 4 m/s (for

example a diameter of the channel of

300mm) - the following points of

reference for compression can be

accepted:

There are several possibilities to

arrange the channels. The examples of

installation should indicate several

possibilities; the implementation has to

be proofed according to the specific

case and can be adapted to the

Monoblock: swimming pool hall air dehumidification

with heater, heat recovery and options for fresh air heating

and water heating of the swimming-pool

The WIEGAND-monoblock system

offers to the architect or builder of a

swimming pool hall the possibility of

heating and air dehumidification with a

single unit. If an installation of

conventional heaters because of

esthetical or technical reasons or

reasons of space is impossible or

undesirable, the monoblock system

would be an appropriate application.

The ideal alternative to the compact

units. Choosing the appropriate

swimming pool hall air dehumidification

units several important criterias have to

be considered, which has normally to

be decided on a professional consulting

at site. With regard to the air distribution

in a swimming pool hall the installation

of a standing unit could be prefered.

Type LEW T 32 is also available

with 12 kW-PWW. Heat output

related to 90°/ 70° C flow- and

return temperature. The

measurements of the units are

adequate to type LEW T 45.

The standing units of the types LEW

T20/32/45 are shapely and with their

slim measurements are

advantageous. Units which are

problem-free installed.

If the existing fan and ventilation

equipments are consumptive of

energy, standing units would be

exceptionally proper.

Because the equipment has only a

depth of 310 mm it is nearly always

possible to place it in unfavourable

room conditions.

Compact air dehumidification units LEW 12 for hot

whirl pools and small sized swimming pools

Hot whirl pools and small sized

swimming pools are gaining in

importance: with regard to space and

financial reasons they are the ideal

alternative to bigger sized indoor

swimming pools.

The distinguishing feature of hot whirl

pools is a water temperature of 37° to

38 °C with a high degree of

evaporation. This amount of

evaporation is four times higher than in

conventional indoor swimming pools

with an average water temperature

between 26° to 28 °C.

The average size of hot whirl pools

used by private owners is nowadays 2 x

2 m (4 qm ) and evaporates 4-6 litres of

water per hour. Even if it is considered

that normally somebody stays only 30

minutes inside of the whirl-pool to take

a bath the result is an amount of

evaporation of 2 – 3 litres. The result of

this high amount of evaporation in small

sized rooms is a high degree of

humidity which has to be reduced

because in the course of time it can

damage the building.

Sometimes it’s told that for rooms with

hot whirl pools air dehumidification is

not necessary because they are not

used very often and simple airing

should be sufficient. But this is not the

case: Little strokes fell big oaks and we

suggest to every private owner not

saving money on the wrong part (spot).

The WIEGAND hot whirl pool

dehumidification equipment is costeffective,

small-sized and the adequate

solution for air dehumidification.

The efficiency of the hot whirl pool

dehumidification equipment is

adjusted to private hot whirl pools.

Because of the high amount of

evaporation in rooms with hot whirl

pools in professional or public

spheres (hotels or leisure centres,

public indoor swimming pools), it’s

necessary to install the units type

LEW 36 or standing unit T 45 for air

dehumidification.

The WIEGAND-hot whirl pool air

dehumidification unit LEW 12 isn’t

only suitable for whirl pools. It’s also

reliable for small scale swimming

pools up to 14 m water surface.

Operation mode – information

about installation

The shower room air dehumidification

unit functions according to the

principle of air condensation. The

desired relative humidity of the air of a

room is regulated with a hygrostat. If

the humidity is higher than the set

point the air dehumidification unit for

shower rooms is automatically

switching on and as soon as the

desired degree of humidity is reached

switching off. The unit is installed in

shower rooms on special mountings.

The output of the air should be at the

weakest point (for example the

window)

It’s also necessary to fix the point for

the electrical contact, to install at the

intake side of the unit the hygrostat

and to attach the effluent of the

condensation water
