ROYAL BALLET’S NUTCRACKER RETURNS TO COVENT GARDEN Returning to the Covent Garden stage and screened live in cinemas on Tuesday 5 December, Peter Wright’s captivating production of The Nutcracker is a glittering festive treat for audiences of all ages. Set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score and with designs by Julia Trevelyan Oman, this run of The Nutcracker features Royal Ballet Principal Dancers Lauren Cuthbertson, Francesca Hayward, Sarah Lamb, Laura Morera, Yasmine Naghdi, Marianela Nuñez and Akane Takada appear as the Sugar Plum Fairy during this run. Federico Bonelli, Alexander Campbell, Ryoichi Hirano, Nehemiah Kish, Steven McRae and Vadim Muntagirov perform as the Prince. Soloist William Bracewell makes his debut in this role. The Nutcracker follows Clara and Hans-Peter on a whistle-stop journey through the enchanting Kingdom of Sweets, as they encounter snowflakes, the Sugar Plum Fairy and a selection of colourful characters. A favourite with audiences of all ages, this festive The Nutcracker. Loosely based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, the ballet opens with the lively Christmas party that is hosted by the Stahlbaum family, its Victorian setting captured in opulent detail by Julia Trevelyan Oman’s designs. CARLA BRUNI TO PERFORM HER FIRST UK CONCERT IN LONDON One of the original supermodels, internationally acclaimed singer songwriter Carla Bruni has announced her first UK concert. Having last toured in 2013, Carla is looking forward to returning to the stage with her band to perform songs from her newest album ‘French Touch’ and her previous four albums. Carla says, ‘My last tour was a few years ago and I didn’t come to the UK so I am so excited to finally play here. I have always dreamed of playing in London, a city that I love. It really will be a dream come true.’ Carla Bruni has been writing and performing music since she stopped modelling full time in 1997. Her first album, ‘Quelqu'un m'a dit (Someone Told Me)’, was released in 2002, and since then she has had 3 more critically acclaimed releases, selling over 3 million albums worldwide. Carla has just released her fifth studio album ‘French Touch’, which brings together a delightful trove of sentimental pop favourites; all reimagined in Carla’s intimate and moving acoustic style and chosen for their personal significance – in her own words, songs that inspire the French term for love at first sight – ‘a coup de foudre.’ ‘French Touch’ is warm and familiar, and inimitably Carla. Richly melodic, warm yet minimal, and often slyly playful, all the arrangements in this collection have been given that ‘French Touch’, and still have all the universal appeal as their originals, albeit with a sultry flavour all their own. She will perform at Union Chapel on 9 December.
