HAPPENINGS MALAYSIA

HAPPENINGS MALAYSIA KUALA LUMPUR / BENTONG SPOTLIGHT Creative Space From the 1960s to the mid-80s, the Art Printing Works (APW) carved a reputation of being one of the most recognised printers in the greater Kuala Lumpur area. As businesses ventured toward the digital era, the once prominent print factory slowly disappeared into obscurity. However, in 2013, APW caught a second wind, after its owners repurposed it into a creative space. Now four years on, the area is not only a prominent dining destination for KL-ites but also a highly-coveted space for events for corporations, small businesses as well as individuals. The original Printing Factory is still retained within the confines of the premises but the appeal of APW is largely down to its collaborative workspaces and meeting spaces that are offered. The facility is also a popular hangout for foodies with a wide variety of cuisine on offer with outlets such as Proof+, dishing out fresh oven-baked pizzas and Kaiju, serving creative Thai-Japanese fusion dishes, also occupying space within APW. Weekends are when the area truly comes alive as APW has become a prominent brunch destination, thanks to the inventive chefs at the Breakfast Thieves and well-trained Baristas at Pulp, a hip and happening coffee roaster that has made APW their base of operations. Open daily, 29 Jalan Riong, Bangsar, apw.my SPOTLIGHT Best of Malaysia Under One Roof Nestled within the lush and vibrant Lake Gardens, surrounded by expansive trees is this unassuming, yet highlypopular Malay Restaurant. Situated on the top floor of a multi-storey car park, Restoran Rebung could be a hard find for first-timers, but local diners continuously make a beeline for this eatery when the hunger pangs strike for authentic Malay cuisine. Owned and operated by local Chef Ismail, a familiar name in the culinary circle in the country, Rebung dishes out a wide array of local delights and specialities. Do not allow the simple décor of the restaurant to fool you as an impressive spread of dishes await the moment you pass through the entrance way. For small eaters, there is a downside as there is no a la carte menu here as the restaurant caters exclusively for buffets, but the good news is Rebung is not short on classic Malay dishes. Regulars can attest to that Rebung delivers the best of Malaysia under one roof, including some hard to find Malay fare, which can only be found upon venturing out to the outskirts of the city. Best of all, they’re all laid out across an impressive spread for diners to savour to their hearts content. Just be prepared to bring an appetite and you’ll be duly rewarded.
