CHIANG RAI

RUNNING UP NORTH

Avid runners showed up in full force for the Chiang Rai Marathon, with

SEP 2017 the event kicked off by Mr. Kridhakorn Sirabhabhoj, Senior Director for

Market Communications at Bangkok Airways. The Chiang Rai Marathon SEP 2017

was the 4th event out of the 6 running programmes under Bangkok Airways

Boutique Series 2017; organised in six of the airline’s destinations in

Thailand, which are Trat (Koh Chang), Koh Samui, Phuket, Chiang Rai,

Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. The series is divided into 2 categories

with 4 marathons and 2 trail programmes.

The starting point for the race began at Chiang Rai city hall with

Mr. Boonwate Sipuangchai, the Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai, presiding

as chairman for the opening ceremony. Four thousand local and foreign

runners did their personal best on their way to marathon victory.

City of Angels is the pride of the nation as the

Mastercard 2017 Global Destination Cities

Index survey recently announced that the capital

of Thailand took the No.1 spot, winning as the

most popular destination among travellers from

across the globe. Even more exhilarating is the

fact that this is the second year that vibrant

Bangkok or Krungthep Mahanakhon, has won

over 132 top destination cities – such as London

which ranked second, followed by Paris, Dubai,

Singapore, New York, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and

Tokyo, respectively. According to the index,

Bangkok is projected to welcome nearly 20

million overnight visitors this year.

December marks the yachting season in Phuket

period. Among the events, Kata Rocks Superyacht

Rendezvous (KRSR) 2017 takes place featuring

VIENTIANE

SHOW MASKS GO ON

Vientiane, Laos’ capital, plays host to the 2017 IMACO

international conference until November 3. Organised by the

International Mask Culture & Arts Organization (IMACO).

The biennale mask conference aims to promote intercultural

exchanges in the world of mask art, ensuring stronger

cooperation in their performance art and culture. Putting on

a mask is a transformative experience and we have witnessed

and learned from different forms of performance such as:

the carnival in Venice, Guy Fawkes, Tibetan ritual masks, or

the Lao ancestor masks. The city of Vientiane expects 100

international participants from over 30 countries involved in

the world of mask arts, including mask artists and performers.
