Thank you for your work at OPS. You are the reason I believe OPS is synonymous with providing Outstanding Public Service. I am amazed at how things keep getting better around here - continuous process improvement, lean and that good to great stuff seem to be a part of our culture. The most enjoyable part for me is getting to work with wonderful, talented and benevolent people like you. I am sure you will agree that it’s the people that really make the difference; they make OPS such a great place to work. I spent some time paging through our newsletters and bulletins from earlier this year, and it is amazing how much we have accomplished. I encourage you to do the same; they are posted on our intranet. On the Technology front, we have transitioned to Jurisdiction Online for Boilers, and we are in the early stages of transitioning to a Salesforce platform for Conveyances. However, the most impressive accomplishment to me has been the in-house development of Google Apps and GIS interfaces that our Oil Inspectors are now happily using. It’s a true testament to what we can accomplish internally, with little OIT involvement, and it gives me tremendous hope for the future. We have been busy and successful on the regulatory front, adopting new regulations for Retail Hydrogen Fueling in January and adopting revisions to our regulations for Conveyances in April, for Storage Tanks in May, for Boilers and Pressure Vessels in July and for Liquefied Petroleum Gas in September. Rulemaking can be a very contentious and long, drawn-out process, but thanks to the engagement and trust we have with our stakeholders, this is usually not the case (much to the envy of other regulatory agencies in Colorado and across the country). Another big success from <strong>2017</strong> has been on the Outreach and Educate front across all our programs. Besides outreach and education with our stakeholders, our Oil and Public Safety staff have collaborated with national organizations to deliver training in Colorado and across the country. I am very excited about new initiatives that we have rolled out this year on the Petroleum side of our business, such as the Recognized Environmental Professional designation for consultants and Risk-based and Announced Inspections. I believe these initiatives will help educate, set higher expectations and most importantly influence behavior change so that we are more effective in preventing and cleaning up releases. The same is true on the Public Safety side with audits of inspections, which are bringing overlooked safety issues to light and providing education to influence behavior change. As we strive towards our goals of environmental protection and public safety, I would like us to focus on three things: 1. Setting more meaningful and measurable goals 2. Seeking opportunities to simplify processes 3. Influencing behaviors to yield the outcomes we desire If we do this, we will go from great to awesome. Brandon Jenson Hey y’all! As most of you know, my name is Brandon Jenson. I moved here from rural southwest Missouri back in June and have been loving my decision ever since. After graduating with two degrees in French and Community and Regional Planning from Missouri State University, I moved to Lakewood, Colorado with my best friend, Emily Culp (pictured). The Denver metro represented the greatest opportunity for employment, along with the big city feel, which is what drew me out here. Emily is currently pursuing her Masters in social work at Metropolitan State University. We are also the proud parents of the biggest nugget of a dog you have ever seen, Chipotle the Dog Jenson-Culp (also pictured). When I’m not working or staying involved with the Colorado chapter of the American Planning Association, I stay involved in a lot of outdoor activities. Within three months of moving, we hiked nearly 40 miles and climbed two 14ers (Grays and Torreys Peaks)! I also really enjoy cooking and have the best dang mac-ncheese recipe this side of the Rockies. If you couldn’t tell from my weekly game, I really enjoy talking with people, so stop by my cubicle sometime! I am also very work-driven and try to base my actions and decisions on the mantra my parents ingrained in me growing up: always leave something better than you found it (this usually didn’t work out with toys, but you can’t win at everything, right?). I appreciate the opportunity to join this team and I am so excited to make OPS even better than it already is! Content
