Scottish SVQ success An update by Mark Story, Head of Learning and Development Newcross continues to invest in their staff by promoting and supporting professional development through the provision of SVQ 2 in Health and Social Care in partnership. Alma Training our SVQ partner in Scotland are helping us to deliver this programme. Following the successful launch of our Scottish SVQ programme, there are 45 learners within 9 groups that have started to working towards achieving their Level 2 qualifications in 9 of our 10 Scottish branches. These groups are and will continue to be supported within the next coming months as they advance in their training process by Alma Training, our SVQ partner in Scotland and our branch staff located within these locations. So many of our staff members have committed to achieving this national qualification illustrates the dedication and commitment that Newcross staff have towards not only developing their own skills, but also investing towards the future. Newcross have continued to support our staff by providing a venue where our learners are able to not only have access to support but are also able to show their evidence and pull it together to form a portfolio. Our staff are at the heart of the company, so we are delighted to be able to continue to offer opportunities to our staff that will enable them to further their professional development and represent their ongoing commitment to develop and grow career with us. Tracy O’Kennedy said “Following a successful pilot in Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy branches, I am delighted to report that SVQ's in Health and Social Care are now available in all 10 Scottish branches. I am delighted to report we have 45 learners currently on programme, and we wish them every success in their endeavours. We are working in partnership with Alma Training who have shown they are both capable and supportive, encouraging learners to strive to achieve their care qualifications and get recognition for the fantastic care they provide.” Due to the success of these groups, two further groups are ready to be launched by the end of January next within our branches in Falkirk and Kirkcaldy. If you are interested in taking your career development to the next stage please contact your local branch. 22

Learning and Development Changing careers in Complex Care Dedicated to Learning & Development since 1996, Newcross are pleased to announce the launch of Diploma in Health and Social Care in our Complex Care branches following the incredible successes of our SVQs in Scotland, and our pilot NVQ trials in Bournemouth and Chester. “We are so proud to be able to offer the next step in career development for our healthcare employees. These diplomas teach news skills, but also recognise the incredible work that our frontline employees do day to day for our service users”, said Managing Director Michelle Gorringe. Fully funded by Newcross, the level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Health and Social Care enable our employees to develop their skillset and competencies within healthcare settings. Over 100 employees from our Complex Care branches are currently completing the qualifications across the South West. “These diplomas offer our employees the structure to support their career development and further proves that we continue to lead from the front in terms of quality of people. We are focusing on offering these NVQs to those who work in our Complex Care branches, but it is just the beginning of what we will be able to offer in the future for Newcross employees” said Head of Learning and Development Mark Story. We’re working with GP strategies, our dedicated partner to enable us to deliver this nationally recognised qualification. They deliver training in our local branches and also observe learning in the workplace. Each session is designed to teach participants how to deliver an excellent level of care; developing a clear understanding their specific responsibilities and recognising their achievements. If you work in Complex Care and would like to register your interest in doing a NVQ please contact your local branch. 23
