14 GUELPH SANTA CLAUS PARADE 2017 Well, we did it! Again! On November 19, GWSA volunteers showed the community just how involved, active and determined Guelph seniors can be. GWSA volunteers marched the distance in the snow and wind and nary a one dropped by the wayside. Such resilience! A good number of GWSA activities were represented in the parade, if not personally, certainly by display. Presence in person or display of the following activities needs to be recognized: The Canoe Club first and foremost for the loan of a canoe which was the focal point of the float. Filled with presents, stuffed animals and decorated with Christmas lights and garlands, it stood out as a centre piece. Riding on the float were two card players wearing card-adorned shifts while the Knave of Clubs and the Queen of Hearts marched. All GWSA card activities were thus recognized. Pickle Ball, Badminton, Skating, Golf, Darts, Walking Club and the Sons of Beaches with Bob Langham riding his trusty steed while entertaining the crowds lining the parade route, were also represented. Carolers from the Silvertones in period costumes rode on the float singing seasonal songs to accordion accompaniment all but drowning out the loud CJOY van in front and the pipe band behind. RIGHT!! Their effort much appreciated in any case. Also represented, if not on display, at least in body: the Writers Club, Into Focus Photography, Line Dancing, Snooker and Texas Hold ‘em Poker. Apologies if any activity that participated or were otherwise represented has been overlooked. A very large thank you from the GWSA Santa committee: Darlene Pendleton (the bear), and Ross Coulter (the elf), to all those who didn’t ride the float or march, but contributed busy hands to decorating. On a special note: A big thanks goes to Guelph Little Theatre for the loan of several props, without which our float would have appeared barren.
