Petals of song float up from your throat,<br />
each melody lending<br />
to the movement of water.<br />
I see you tumbling with the currents.<br />
Sunlight finds you<br />
& makes amber of your arms.<br />
Eventually, you come apart.<br />
Piece by piece, the sea licks you<br />
into its belly<br />
& you’re never cold, Sappho.<br />
