ART ATTACK What happens when 40 Indian and international artists are given free rein over the city’s fishing harbour? The historic Sassoon Docks has been revitalised into a new art precinct with the recently held St+Art Mumbai Urban Art Festival. Beautiful murals now grace its walls, many of them depicting Mumbai’s original inhabitants – the koli or fisherfolk – in a tribute to the life of Sassoon Docks. Once the festival ends, the vibrant murals remain to be enjoyed by all. The Yok & Sheryo’s Varuna Vessel mural connects the fishing culture with South Asian mythology while Fearless Collective transforms a brightly coloured golden wall into a backdrop for stories of koli women, and Guido Van Helten’s photorealistic murals adorn an entire façade of the docks. ON YOUR PLATE Go on a journey on the Grand Trunk Road at Taftoon Bar & Kitchen, which recently opened at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai’s corporate enclave. Named after the aromatic, saffron and cardamom infused Persian bread, Taftoon is an ode to the flavours of Asia’s oldest road. The cuisine covers everything from Kabul to Kolkata, with stopovers in Kashmir, Delhi, Lucknow, and Bihar. There are succulent kebabs, slow-cooked meats, pulaos, and regional vegetarian fare on offer. Another new BKC restaurant is the Goan- Portuguese inspired O Pedro, from the folks at The Bombay Canteen. Its vaulted ceiling, pale blue walls, and colonial Portuguese-style décor complement the fun Goa vibe perfectly. Try the coastal favourite Beryl’s Fish Curry with Sannas or the Seafood Cataplana (a Portuguese seafood stew). The warm poee (sourdough bread) with choriz butter is inspired, as is the Veal Tongue Prosciutto. Desserts range from the Goan Bebinca to the Portuguese Pastel de Nata (egg custard tarts).
