ARTISTIC VIGILANTE - Tell us a little about yourself
FOTIS - Bought my first camera at the end of 2013. My full name is Fotis Fotopoulos. I’m
mostly inspired by cinema & music (I ‘ve been working as a professional musician for many
years). Working as a professional photographer/cinematographer for a couple of years now,
shooting portraits, events, theatrical plays and commercial videos . Lately I started working
on documentaries.
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE - What would you say are your challenges as a photographer in
your country?
FOTIS - One big challenge is actually that everybody wants cheaper rates for better photos,
or even free work. Especially with the economical crisis here in Greece. They only think a
photographer is a paid professional when it comes to weddings.
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE - That seems to be the general problem everywhere, How do you
get these models to appreciate your work and actually pay you for taking your time to make
them so beautiful? and how do you promote your works?
FOTIS - Most of my models, being professional or not, approach me for my personal photographic
style so it feels like they already appreciate my work. About self promoting now, well
this is actually the hardest thing for me cause it takes too much of my time every day to be
active in social platforms. But in general being polite and appreciative about other people’s
work and comments is crucial. It’s not a strategy, it is the way I am trying to live my life.
